Especially if it's riot. Their music has always been fire. It'd be a little odd if it was trash in this game for some reason

Also, I can't wait to see how they implement the individual champion themes into the game

@@chrishaven1489 If I had to guess considering other fighting games, it'll probably just randomly select one of the two characters battling and play their theme

the music is part of why i decided to look into guilty gear so its great to hear the 2xko dev team is putting in so much care on the music side as well

The amount of distortion is wild on this interview, but I'm so excited to hear more of the music and hear more about the music. The soundtrack is a banger.

I'm a big fighting game guy and game music fan, but have almost no experience with League, so keep that in mind while I share this feedback. I also realize that what I'm looking for doesn't perhaps match the goals of the project in the team's opinion - but imo something more like I'm suggesting could achieve it better? This will be somewhat long, sorry.
Focusing on music to fit the locations is a valid choice, but I would argue it isn't maybe the best choice for a game like this. In fighting games, I think you generally want people to be excited about the characters, who they are, what they do, and engross the player in the "power fantasy" etc. For this reason, especially for a 2v2 fighting game where it's still possible, I think character themes are better. In a 2v2 environment, such as seen with the early Versus games from Capcom, a match can start with one champion's theme playing, but switch to the surviving champion's theme when the first is defeated. This gives much more toward people "feeling" the characters and being invested in the experience. In somewhat recent times, you may be familiar with how Guilty Gear changes songs when Ky's hair comes down in Xrd or when Sol uses Dragon Install. These are character-focused choices, and make for very memorable experiences.
But I realize that may not be what you want - League has I assume a huge amount of world building and lore to its locations, people groups, etc. This makes you want to showcase the stages and what they mean. Long-term I think that's a weaker choice for a fighting game, but I get it. So seeing that - another piece then to add, and this is definitely more subjective to me. The character select song is probably the best of what I've heard, and I know it was said in this interview that they pumped up the energy beyond what they'd normally consider...but it just strikes me more like "chill vibe electronic loop to chill/study/relax to (30 minutes)". I couldn't define what a "trap beat" is necessarily, but I saw that term used and after looking it up, yeah that seems to be what I'm hearing as a layman/non-educated listener. I'm not picking up A2, +R or Uni necessarily, even if the technical structure and intent likely matches that. This ignorant end-user can't hear it, and I think that'll be common.
That last statement is a lot of this, I think. Many games *do* seem to have quite well-made and well-intentioned music/sound design, but it isn't landing in a practical way, how the aggressive melodies of the past did. I think the music *should* compete for our attention (where the opposite is seen in NetherRealm games), and ideally it gives an impression that lasts with people that they can relate experiences to *in this game* with *these characters they're actively using* rather than remind them of stuff in League games' past. That, I think, works great for current LoL fans and new people, and it can still be done with "stage music" if char themes are indeed out.
    Thanks for reading!

Your talking about about guilty gear and lore not being a good idea but alot of something like strive for example and or character themes in general or even tekken. The music while exciting has alot of inspiration of feel in the stages they are from. Granblue music also feels good for the stages and themes fit the places they are in. SF6 while most songs aren't that considered that good but some themes like Ken for example you can really feel how ken feels like he has a burning passion and some fight left in the tank for what JP did to him in his theme or Jamie's theme the dude is a little funky and kinda got that happy feet thing going, and his theme reflects that about him. I think it's actually the opposite, recognizable themes for characters and or stages really fit long term. Guilty gear Strive has alot of themes that have express the character well. At first people didnt like them that much but people grew to love them. Music is much more nuanced then "exciting good" or "lore theme bad".

@@Sparda51 I'm sorry if you took what I said to be devoid of nuance and/or mean "exciting good"/"lore theme bad". I'm having a hard time following what you're overall trying to say here (could you read your comment to yourself and then explain it?), but I had a side discussion with someone about stage/lore themes still being strong on twitter, where I cross-posted this and it got a crazy amount of interaction. The person being interviewed in this video has now even directly responded to me because of it.
Anyway, naturally it becomes an issue when you inevitably have many more chars than stages. The stage songs then just have a "presence" rather than drive things/apply char identity, but it's still workable for sure - sometimes a better way to approach it. Someone also brought up that re: SF6's Ken theme. I think we're on the same page.
Many KoF games are great still representing the characters and action in stage themes. CvS2 somehow managed it, which is wild. DNF is 1v1 with stage music but it works. I like your examples too, and I don't think we're disagreeing at all - the second half of my post is assuming that they are indeed sticking to stage/lore music, which is fine. Granblue's music are character songs though btw.

Am i miss understanding something or they have chosen stage themes over character themes?
If so that's a shame, league already has a lot of bangers on their characters themes for them to choose to not use them, and i think they could do some really cool stuff if they chose to implement the character themes with dynamic music.

Great interview, but i just dont like the CS theme, well to be honest riot games in-game music just sucks all together, they shouldve just done silver scrapes, that shit is hype, not this flute behind a boring trap beat
