I simply love this game. You know, it actually took me awhile to love it. I played a few times before things starting clicking and my understanding grew, one day, I just couldn’t get enough. It’s so good, but I believe it takes a person to stay committed for a little while before it fully reveals itself to you. Nowadays, this is such a great system. Honestly, sands of Shiraz is great too, it’s just different, I love complexity and don’t mind fiddlness in games. Anyway, I can’t wait for the next one. Thank you for your thoughts and unboxing!
I love HEXplore It so much. One of my absolute favorite board games. I have all of this stuff coming to me, too. I'm extra hyped about that campaign book, it looks amazing!
Brilliant video. I have only dabbled in MN so far, with most of my time with Klik, but it's already clear to see a subtle reinvention of the blueprint. The new game mode is certainly a boon for us soloists (Jonathan did a video of this). The boss is a real trickster, and raw power won't get the job done any longer. The dungeon feature is really cool with the gems you place acting as little shine objects twinkling away to entice you further in....
As for Klik's madness, apart from two howlers - chapter numbers and number of bookmarks - I found the standard of proof reading to be very high. I didn't encounter any errors in structure either. There is however a flaw in the use of the power-up deck to mark time, particularly when large groups are playing, because it simply isn't big enough to both perform this function and to source boss rewards. I posted my reflections on BGG and hopefully it will be sorted for the next book.
It's also worth checking out, from the website, the developers suggestions for how to implement features from newer into older games.

"Crazy, but that's how it goes
Millions of people living as foes
Maybe it's not too late
To learn how to love
And forget how to hate"
Mr. Crowley... did you talk to the dead?
This looks sooo good!! I’m really digging the campaign books available for these!!
The campaign book is incredible work of passion for Hexplore It. The heroic moments is genius idea. Every time you decide to come back with a different team of heroes, there will be still something new to encounter, even if you know how the main branch of the story unravels.
Yeah. So many variables with those heroic moments. Pretty cool.
Agreed. I've completed it twice already during our recent heatwave. The heroic moments make the roles really shine.
Oh wow! Twice through already?
Yep!
I would love to see a playthrough.
I got mine but won’t tackle it for a while now.
Looking forward to digging into this. It's been awhile since I played so might go back to Ch. 1 and work my way through them. Or do the campaign book maybe.
The sharp corners bug me too. I've considered using a corner clipper on them, but haven't done it yet.
Nice It's Always Sunny reference!
Sands of Shurax is my favorite so far, I love the open world style, there's just so much to explore. Love it! DoMN, I'm eagerly still waiting on this one :) hopefully not too much longer
Same. Sands of Shurax is by far my favorite! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, and there are definitely flaws with Sands, but I think it's a little unfair to say that 4 victory conditions is a downside to the game. If you just want the 1 victory condition to beat the final boss like Valley has, just decide that's the victory condition you're going for at the start of the game and ignore the others. Including 3 additional ways to win in no way takes away from the game in any way. If you just want to power up and have a final fight you can do that.
I do agree that there are a lot of sub systems in Sands, but it's so easy to just ignore the ones you don't want to interact with. You don't need to gamble or do arenas if you don't want to. They are not required to win.
The one flaw with Sands is that I'm not a fan of the timing of that game. It does force you to explore the desert or the villain phase will advance to quickly, which seems weird in a game that gives you so many options of things to do outside the desert.
It’s by far my least favorite. Luckily we can each play the versions we like the most.
I think Shurax is the first of the series where I figured you can choose a couple of roles to achieve specific objectives, rather than having to beat the final boss each time. For example the gladiator has a grudge against the arena, the team for the black pyramid includes a historian or a cartographer....the belcher and his rogue mate from the pub just want to bash boss brains in...many possibilities. I also like the idea of rolling to end up in the wastes if you teleport in VotDK.
Shura is my favorite as well. I love the sandbox options. I actually have taken the flying carpet out of the game for now because I keep ending up with it and it always breaks the game when I get it.
No way dude!! I'm so excited for my Domain set to get here!! Lucky duck...
My favorite game in tge series is Volume 2: Forests of Adrimon. It was my first step into the Hexplore It series, and I find I still love it even after getting to play and know Sands of Shurax more.
I agree, I think Adrimon is my favourite to date and the one I would recommend if you only want to sample the series. It's very atmospheric, the roles and races really fit in (maybe they don't travel as well), and the game zips along faster than VotDK, because of the numerpus fragments and the fate cycle mechanic is neater than traipsing around the cities (and abusing teleport stones). Too early to say where this one will fit into the hierarchy.
Can't believe i haven't got my copy yet while I'm in Macao, China, thanks for the unboxing!
Still waiting for my copy. This will be my first Hexplore It game.
For a moment, I was shocked to see that the length of this unboxing video is over an hour. I thought, you have a lot of complaints! :D
The increase of thickness in the base game box was a factory mistake. But you can put the plastic insert of the expansion with all contents straight to the base game and everything fits perfectly.
My only regret, I cannot have all 4 Volumes stored in one Kallax cube...
Omg they have the demogorgon.
Ok now I can’t wait to play it. I want to face the stranger things monster.
My local game store has the sands version. I was hoping for dead king or noctis. But they are hard to find. Game looks great tho!!
This looks so much better with the new art on cards. I just wish it had an easier entry point because it's just so hard to get into with the complex ruleset imo.
I was wondering how long it would be before we saw this! The inclusion of familiars and aspects makes me consider playing this true solo, i.e. only a single hero. Have you tried it that way?
i got all the encounter decks even though i only have 1 out of 3 since you can make a big stack of encounter decks.
I knew nothing about this game and the art looks amazing! Thanks for the video! Will we see some gameplay?
I don’t typically do game play videos. Too many rules mistakes. You will see more videos about it though.
It might be worth getting a corner rounder for those cards that you had a problem with.
I punch all corners. That’s what I was talking about. :)
i got my pledge last week. i just need to find table space to play on
Such a great video, thank you! I still struggle to understand what the Living Card Decks add over the cards you get in the game anyway. Just more cards for variety or something else?
They are a little confusing. Overly so. It’s just more cards, but you can use them in a certain order to have a more linear quest line.
@@TheDungeonDive thank you! That’s cleared it up… I thought it was the same content but just presented in a different way. That’s good to know; more variety is always great!
amazing just received... i have all the collection... maybe too much
I missed those art decks for the previous volumes, are these cards new, or just art versions of the ones in the game?
Can you use the new encounter decks from the older games in Mirza Noctis
Yes. You can mix all the new encounters decks. But there will be a lot of thematic disconnect.
I miss the Story Book on Domain of Mirza Noctis.
I can see that. However, they simply put their time and effort into other places, and I think it paid off.
I thought the campaign book is just 4 sessions, 20 hour total or so, it is just so big because every different class, aspect and race has all kind of unique sections to read.
I have no idea! It seems to me that we will get far more than 20 hours out of it.
It's 4 chapters after a small prologue. From my experience, each chapter takes 3-5 hours to complete, depending on path taken, team size and time for decision making.
Where would you suggest someone start with Hexplore it>. I'm a veteran RPGer and Boardgamer,. Would this set be the easiest to get since it's Late Pledge?
I think my favorite is still the first, Valley of the Dead King.
There's lots of stuff to do in each volume, but compared to each other I agree with ratings the crowdfunding campaign had. first volume is the easiest and quickest to get used to, second is more complex and has more stuff to keep track of; third not only has a lot more stuff to it, it also has, I think 4 main, completely different ways you can go through playing it with a different end goal to win. This one falls between first and second, and I feel once you get used to how everything works in it, it's probably the most streamlined version with how everything works together.
If you really want to, or have a big group, you make an even bigger game using most of the stuff from different volumes together to add complexity and sometimes some chaos, and I forget if all of the volumes have this or not, but there's different game modes and rule sets you can use to either make the games easier and/or quicker; my personal favorite when I have the time, is a big long game mode where to win you basically have to go through all of the bosses of the campaign. I like that one since it tends to let me build up the character the most before fighting the final boss and lets me go through a lot of the different cards.
man, at first i dismissed the reissued card decks that have art on them... but now i kinda want them lol. if they had added a few new cards to them, they'd be an insta-purchase for me.
Totally not needed but a cool new way to play and will enjoy them.
There are a handful of new cards for the older games, but no new encounters as such. The illustrations are a big improvement.
THICC!
This game looks fantastic.
But as you (and me) are looking for rules light and not time consuming games it seems it is a lot of Info Heavy on the cards and a bunch of rules to learn there.....
So.....what about that?
What is your opinion?
I would like to know.
This game isn't difficult, but there is a lot to remember. I probably have never played a single turn 100% correctly. Games can also be long. It's one of the longer, more fiddly games that I really love. I still think the 1st volume is the best, because it's the most simple.
@@TheDungeonDive ok thanks...that helps.
It is more of an experience rather than a tight balanced games. If you approach it as an exciting adventure where balance is unimportant it is great fun.
@@kennethkersey7299 A lot of games are a great "experience" in that way.
But in this time of my life I just want something rules light and not needing hours to play.
It doesn't mean that this game is not good.
It's just that I would choose something simpler.
I got this through gamefound, and it is a really good game, the rules are quite heavy, and there is a lot to manage during the game, it also can feel pretty brutal, we played it a couple of times in a small group, which we found out later that you should use the more powerful characters in the expansion for solo/small group. The part I did not like was that the game can take many hours to play through, I think we clocked up around 7 and we still had not finished it and had to pack it up due to not being able to leave it on the table, shame it has no ability to 'save' the length of the game has stopped it getting it back to the table to play and I have agonized on whether to sell it, but I will keep it as it is such a good game.
The other thing that kind of miffed me a bit at the time was (I am in the UK) I ended up paying more for it than retail, and all I got for it was a Brad Pitt poster, however saying that I haven't actually seen it in the shops for sale, they have been stuck on pre-order since the game was released.
I think for me these games are purely solo because of the time.
@@TheDungeonDive I think your right, its like mage Knight a lot of people will say to play it single player or your be there till sunrise trying to finish it.
Next time I play I will use one of the 'super' characters out of the expansion, to make it a little easier as this game can be brutal.
I love the expansion characters. Also, maybe try playing the double-up variation.
@@TheDungeonDive I never really looked much through the variants, but I will.
Double-up is great. All rewards are doubled, and everything moves faster. Perfect for a faster game.
Is this available at retail ? Or can you still pledge ?
They always come to retail. I got the first 2 volumes on Amazon.
They also always offer up the older volumes during the current crowdfunding campaign. I'd wager that the next volume will be hitting Gamefound in 2023.
You can still pledge. But, will probably end soon.
Hey Tom, their game found store is still open as this project delivers. Closes at the end of September. Any orders placed now will ship out in October. Great time to pick up the stuff with great bundles and discounts as stock on Amazon is hit or miss.
Ok so, I was really wondering about buying this game or not... I'm doin it now, your fault man! :p

One of my biggest issues with the earlier versions of the game was lack of art. The game looked very bland and was a turn off for me.
This one looks really nice.
In regard to the campaign book is that an additional add on to the base game?
I don’t have time or care for campaign games anymore so I’d only play this if it was a one shot game where I can play for 3 or 4 hours and just pack it up, no leveling up, no continuous story etc.
I’ve already got campaign games I’ll never finish so I’m avoiding those type of games now.
The campaign books are add ons.
