    - BGG description -
    Krasvetelia. The sun sets on this cold and desolate place. Once a beautiful land of craggy mountains, fertile valleys, and deep bottomless chasms, it has now wilted like a rose in winter.
    The small kingdom, tucked away from the rest of the world, has had few rulers in its time. None certainly as evil as their current. It is rumored that Mirza Noctis came to power some two-hundred years ago. Eternally youthful, the man is whispered to have controlled the bloodlines of this place, carefully arranging unions between noble families and culling those of weaker bloodlines.
    Now, the peoples of Krasvetelia live a harsh life, starved of happiness. Writing is outlawed and the caste system in place prevents all but a handful of nobles from holding titles and land in Noctis’s name. Up until recently, starving to death was most of Krasvetelian’s worries. But more and more, people are going missing in this land. Devoured by darkness, some say...
    The scholars, left to themselves in their remote monasteries, have recently unearthed a terrible secret: Mirza Noctis is working tirelessly, his agents harvesting blood from the local populous. Years of unattachment to this land have left the people mostly unaware of his actions. But a terrifying fact is now clear: Noctis is working towards a massive blood ritual. He has all but locked away any tools that could be used to defeat him, and the scholars worry he is just beginning. A greater threat is about to befall the land...

      Same boat. I have played FoA and VotDK. But SoS came to me in a barrage of other games that got delivered and I had just put Jaws of the Lion on the table. DoMN looks absolutely amazing.

    I'm a huge fan of this system. I have wins in both VotDK and FoA (on easy). Looking forward to cracking SoS at some point, but it does seem so EPIC as to be a pinch overwhelming. I might head back to VotDK and check in on the expansions, which I have yet to open.

      SOS is wonderful and my (David here) favorite volume, both epic approach and theme is something I’m crazy about.

    I appreciate how concise you kept this review, and that you've spent time replying to the video's comments.
    It has still failed to convince me whether or not to make the purchase. All of the options and character possibilities are very enticing. Roles like Crystal Mage and Trap Specialist sound interesting and thematic, but I'm concerned the flavor vanishes and just becomes applying numbers.

      Thnx for the kind words:-) Actually we had the same concerns before buying our first HEXplore It volume. I'm not saying base math is not a significant part of this game, but from our perspective not the biggest. Game stimulates our imagination A LOT, and during the session it's easy for us to get sucked into the theme.
      Maybe your concerns can be addressed by the newest add-on (should be unlocked soon)? It's Klik’s Madness, campaign mode for the first Volume of HEXplore It.

    • @klinktastic
      @klinktastic 3 роки тому

      @@BeastieGeeks I'll second that. It's a bit of math, but honestly not that bad. This game has card art that they didn't do in previous games (small budget independent group here, not a big company). I have to say, if I was recommending any of the HexploreIt games, this is the best entry point IMO. I woudl use this one as the test to see if you like it and if you want to get on board in the future. They are doing 6 games to complete the collection. So you'll have 2 more to get in on it.

    Great review! 👍 I’m really interested in this game. BUT then I’d probably want everything and it gets quite expensive. Also I’ve heard the rules for SoS are not well written m, which makes me worry about the earlier games as well.

      I’ll pass. I also passed on SFB. I really want that game, but it wouldn’t get played. I really only play with my son with things being as they are, and then co-op games are better. DoMN I’d play solo, but I have so much on the way, I don’t really need it. Or MAYBE I’ll surprise myself and get only DoMN and not earlier ones, we’ll see 😂

      @@michael3123 Smart man. Think of it as a D&D campaign in a box. Not tactical like the D&D Adventure system board games like Wrath of Ashardelon (based off D&D 4E), but like a full campaign. But instead of you know, a year, you can do it in a day or two (depending on how much time you can dedicate to a session).

      It's a pinch overwhelming at first. But the basic mechanics and turns are not very hard once you get 1-2 turns. If you watch a few plays, you'll pick it up pretty quick. If you're concerned with being indecisive, you should do random picks for race and role.
