Hi Jimbo, I recently passed my NSW driving test at botany and I would like to thank you from my bottom of my heart for putting up such wonderful videos. It really helped me and I would like thank you once again. Amazing work.
Hey Jimbo, Just wanted to say a big thank you. I have just passed my Driving Instructor Test which is an at least 95% pass (as you would know), after failing the first attempt. I have held my Licence for 42 years and after watching your How to Pass Videos, I received a 99% pass. Cheers mate for sharing such great content. Stefan

Hey Jimbo. Came back here to say my massive thanks to you. You're are great help to all of us. Ive watch your videos and I pass my DT first go. Cheers mate!!
Thank u very much for all usefull videos. I watched and take notes every single knowledge that you explained in all videos. and today I passed my driving test at the first go at LIVERPOOL service nsw.
Hey mate, highly appreciate the assistance. I have a question about the start / finish sequence. While learning on automatic I've been told two seperate sequences now: 1. Pull over - > transmission into park - > handbrake - > indicator off (if still on) -> engine off. 2. Pull over - > handbrake - > transmission into park -> indicator off (if still on) -> engine off. Which one is the correct sequence and is it really a point of potentially being marked down if you do the handbrake / transmission into park in the wrong order?
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 Amazing brother thank you so much. These videos have been nice little clarity checks and stress reliefs so highly appreciate all your assistance!! And thank you for taking time to respond!
Hey jimbo ❤ Love from my heart to this channel for giving such valuable guidance ❤i have cracked full license from my overseas license on the first go !!!🥳🥳🥳
Great videos! One question - When I am pulling away from a kerbstop, is the expectation that I should be able to steer out from where I have stopped without having to reverse my car, or is the expectation that I would have to reverse my car a bit to be able to create an angle from the car in front for pulling away? Is it ok if I do either of these two as I consider is needed?
Hi Saket if you are referring to the Kerbside Stop manoeuvre then there is usually alot of room just to pull forward out. If you are referring to the Reverse Parallel i recommend that you reverse before you pull out. Remember to check around the vehicle before you reverse and then look out the back window as you are reversing.
My driving instructor said that when pulling out from the kerb, release handbrake lastly (after doing a head check). Is that ok in the driving test? Your videos are so helpful. Very appreciated.
Hi Christopher I choose to release the handbrake straight away. Because there can be a time delay between the check and releasing the handbrake. In that time a car may appear behind you and you may not notice. Most people are in automatic so there is no need to keep the HB on. Even in manual you can hold the car still with the foot brake.
Hey Jimbo I have a couple questions for my test tomorrow at Penrith and it would be greatly appreciated if you could answer them: 1. When you reverse parallel park must you put your car to Parking Mode once you are done or could you just straighten up your steering wheel and leave it on drive with your foot on brake? 2. If they do not tell you to turn off the engine during kerbstops must you still do it? Thank you for the helpful previous videos.
Hi Yaz thank you for your question. (1) The reverse park doesn't require any shutting down or securing in Park. I would still put it in Park and Handbrake on anyway and say done. (2) Re Kerbstop they always tell you to shutdown and secure so just do it anyway. Even if you get these 2 things wrong it's only a slight mark down. Make sure if Reverse park is asked then do the required signals and headchecks. Hope this helps and good luck with your test tomorrow.
It is so helpful for me... Thank u so much.. I had a bad experience from my previous instructor, your video is helping me out. I'm following your rest of your videos as well.
Hi Jimbo, are we allowed to make a reverse movement to get into a better position after pulling into the kerb. For example after pulling in you find you are close to the driveway and instead of driving over the driveway, can you back up a bit to make sure you're clear of the driveway? Would appreciate your advise.
You have to turn off the engine with the kerbstop. They may be confused with the Reverse Park where you dont have to turn it off. Its not a great drama if you dont turn it off just a slight mark down.
@@priomzaman3195 Hi Priom with the Kerbstop they are testing that you can secure the car as if you are leaving it. So that includes switching it off. With the Reverse Park they are not testing the secure and leave the car bit so they don't need you to shut it down.

Hi Ameer yes you should bring your hand back to the steering wheel between gear changes. Also when you have stopped at a red light you can put it in neutral while waiting. Then back in 1st when you need to go. That's fine.
Hi Jimbo, first of all thanks for the videos. They are very helpful. My question is at the driving test for the kerbside parking is it allowed to use 360 degree camera if the car has one as it makes parking very easy?
Hi Jimbo thanks for the great videos! Just one question for the kerbstop, once you have pulled in to the kerb, if you feel as though you are not parallel are you able to reverse and turn the back of the car in towards the kerb in order to straighten up? Is this allowed in the P1 test or will you get deductions/fail for fixing up the line of the car?
Hi Daniela I would recommend just keep going forward to correct your kerbstop position. They usually give you a bit of room. But you could reverse to fix it if you wanted but you will need to do the reverse checks before reversing.
Hi Jimbo, Thanks for your videos, they have really been very helpful. I do have a question, Can we use a reverse camera inorder to fix the kerbside parking, Car is a bit big so I am unable to make judgement accurately though seeing the side mirror. Will my points get deducted or fail if I use a reverse camera to fix kerbside parking(will try to follow all reverse rules).
Hi, Jimbo. Your videos are extremely helpful. I have a question regarding indicating while parking. Do I have to keep the left indicator on while parking as sometimes indicator turns off when steering. Should I just keep it turning on until I fully park? Thanks in advance.
Nice video, but I think you should make separate videos for Automatic and manual cars or edit the same video with voice over for auto and manual in 2 different videos (I know it sounds unreasonable and it means a lot of work too). Whilst you explained perfectly, I got a bit mixed up when you were explaining each steps twice interspersed between Auto and manual. It is ok if you do not agree.
Great information but not the ideal choice of camera setups. Forward camera as main shot is better, then small window showing driver. I think, from the driver's side window not from the passenger's side. Both viewpoints should be from the driver's side so signal information makes sense.
Hi Jimbo, thanks for making all these videos. They are really helpful. I have a quick question- my driving instructor says the wheels should not be on the gutter. They should be outside the gutter just touching it. Is that correct? Thank you so much!
Hi Aditi your wheels with the flat gutters you really need to be on the gutter to be within 50cm of the kerb. If you have the newer curved kerb/gutter then you can be slightly off it. Maybe that's what you have more in your area.
Great video, I have a question! are we allowed in the DT to fix our kerb stop using reverse gear? some time assessor asks us to do this Manoeuvre close to another car which doesn't allow us to go much further to get it right.
Hello Jimbo...there no bubbles mirrors in the car am learning...probably that's why I dont see the gutter properly...all my reverse parking any types of parking are very bad...I dont know if my tutor has the right to put one.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 I ve been going with a driving school..am still very bad to do parking. Last time there was no car at all on the road while doing parallel parking, I told my tutor that I was doing the p.parking slowly to understand it better, to understand the 45degrees etc but he said turn the wheel quickly. I ve asked twice but same thing then I say leave it
Hi Jimbo, I have my p's test tomorrow and ive got a question about when leaving the kerb. Once you are ready to go you wait 5 seconds till pulling out, i feel like i should be doing something in the 5 seconds instead of waiting then checking my blind spot and mirrors. Usually i do a 360 check checking all mirrors and blind spots... Is that okay or should i wait till the 5 seconds is over?
The indicator is on for the 5 seconds. Keep watching the mirror during the 5 seconds. After 5 seconds if it's still clear in the mirror then check blind spot. If that is good then pull out. Best of luck with your test 🤞
Hi Jayne its not a big issue but as most students prefer not to use the hand brake i get them to take the hand brake off straight after they start and put it into first. So once the checks are done they leave straight away. If they do the checks and then take the hand brake off its just one more step that as a learner creates a delay whereby a car could come up behind.
Hi Jimbo. If you’re driving manual, can you leave the car in gear? Or does the car have to be in neutral? Whenever I turn off the car I leave it in first gear as an added measurement of caution from rolling backwards.
Hi David in context of the Kerbstop you have to finish in gear. What you are doing is fine. I prefer to put into neutral until the car is off, then back into gear. The reason being sometimes students bring up the clutch too early and stall if they are leaving it in gear. Also you may need to finish in reverse should you be pointing down hill. So you may forget to do this if you leave it in 1st the whole time.
hey man love the vids, just had a question in regards to the kerbside stop as well as the reverse parralel park am i allowed to touch the kerb but not go ontop/over it ?
Hi Ethan thank you for your question. If you touch the kerb you get a circle error on your score sheet which marks you down. If you already have about 11 circles already then this extra one might put your score under 90% and a fail. If you don't have many circles then it will be ok. Certainly dont mount the kerb ever otherwise F3 and you will be out!
Hi Jimbo, one question. If the window is open do I need to close all the windows when stopping fully after the kerb side parking? Is that marked as well?
Wondering how you responding to the comments after 1 year of this video. 👌 When leaving the kerb side parking should we turn the steering in advance and leave or same time when leaving?
Hello What a Channel I'm still answering comments from any video. When leaving the kerb I think I usually move then steer. It's not like you have to steer to full lock as in a 3pt.
Yea sorry I forgot to add foot brakes to video. Just do the foot brake the same time as the hand brake (lever or e-brake button). So Foot brake on, select Park (don't select Neutral with automatic), Indicator off, Engine off, feet off pedals, say done.
Hi Jimbo, When parking is it wrong to do gear on parking first and then hand breaks, cancel signal, shut down. I have got used to it but my instructor so far hasn’t told me that it isn’t the correct order. But in your video handbrake goes first and then parking. Need to know the most accurate order. Thanks
Hey Jimbo, is it ok to stay on gear 2/3, break slow, then clutch down - to do the kurb parking? Or have to lower to gear 1 then complete the kurb parking ? Thanks a lot 🙏
Yes you can but as a strategy I prefer to get down to 1st as you are slower and can position the car better onto the kerb especially if you need to nudge it forward a bit.
I was told by an instructor that I need to be looking at my blind spot as I move off... so I should be conducting my head check AS the car starts to move. Is this incorrect? I used to just do my head check and then start moving once my head was back looking forward, as you did. But apparently that was wrong. It feels somewhat unsafe to be looking back when I start to move forward...
Hi Sarah. Just do it as I did it. Check mirrors and signal, after 5 seconds signal if safe in mirrors check blindspot then pretty much at the same time look forward and move.If you move a slight bit while still looking at the blind spot that will be ok but as you say you need to be quickly looking forward again.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 thanks so much for your reply Jimbo. Had my test earlier today and passed first go, 100%! Your videos were a HUGE help so thank you :)
Hey jimbo, i wanted to ask if it's true that u cant reverse when u are doing kerbstop park. For example while doing kerb park, i keep moving forward to position my car to near the kerb and i got it. however, there is no room to move forward and you are blocking a driveway. So can you reverse back while being near the kerb and then park or will reversing the car will fail me?
You could reverse but you will need to do the check associated with reversing. They usually should give you adequate room to complete this manoeuvre without having to reverse back.
Please talk to us about kerbside parking in built up heavy traffic areas such as main streets or city parking. It’s near impossible to get a parking spot and if we see someone getting in their car to leave apparently we are not allowed to pull up and put our left blinker on and wait momentarily for that car to leave and then proceed to park. Apparently you aren’t allowed to wait, you must keep moving and proceed around the block and hope that the spot is empty when you circle back which it won’t be. Apparently it’s to slower emissions however it defeats the purpose if people are having to do laps round and round never getting a parking spot!!!! When exactly did they change this law? Traffic cops are rampant booking and fining people for this so called offence yet this is the way I and those my age was taught.
Hi Belinda yes parking in the city streets is tough. Too many cars. You can wait for someone to leave but if they take too long to leave then the people stuck behind will get mad. Maybe catch the bus or train. Or park in a parking station.
Brilliant videos Jimbo. You mentioned a 5 second wait for the blinker before coming off the kerb, does this 5 second rule count across all things such as lane changes?
Hi Jimbo.. Should I always park on top / touching of the gutter?? I’m usually just exactly outside of the gutter line.. will this cause me instant fail of my driving exam? Thank you..
You need to be within 50cm of the kerb. The gutter is about 40cm. If you are on the gutter then all is good. If you are off it by just a little it will still be ok.
Hai jimbo. My test drive 5 September and i try looking for the 4 way stop sign but still can't find. Can you please explain to me about 4 way stop sign. Thanks
Might be a bit late to get a response here, but when leaving the curb after starting the 5 second indication, what do you do if a car is approaching behind you? Should you switch off the indicator and wait to start it again, or should you just leave it on until the car passes?
One question while leaving out from the kerb stop after starting engine what first thing we must do? Like do we need to first put the right hand indicator on or have to check mirrors first and when we have to perform head check . Please explain the sequence?
Hey Jimbo, just wanna clarify, when the testing officer asks to do a kerbstop, do you have to slow down and slightly step on the brake BEFORE or AFTER you check the rear and left side mirror? Thanks in advance!
Hello Luke yes you can but that will involve extra reversing headchecks that you may forget to do. It's much easier to just keep going forward to straighten up.

Hello Jimbo...there no bubbles mirrors in the car am learning...probably that's why I dont see the gutter properly...all my reverse parking any types of parking are very bad...I dont know if my tutor has the right to put one.
Those mirror make seeing the gutter easy. Try and get one.
I ve asked twice but same thing then I say leave it
But after watching your videos I did it like 70% good ..but the rest I couldn't see the gutter.

Best of luck with your test 🤞
great explanation.
Thank you
How do we use the zoom meetings? That would be very useful.
Thanks for the information
In the pullover, I don’t think in a manual car, you would release the handbrake first
Hi Jayne its not a big issue but as most students prefer not to use the hand brake i get them to take the hand brake off straight after they start and put it into first.
So you may forget to do this if you leave it in 1st the whole time.
hey man love the vids, just had a question
in regards to the kerbside stop as well as the reverse parralel park am i allowed to touch the kerb but not go ontop/over it ?
Hi Ethan thank you for your question. If you touch the kerb you get a circle error on your score sheet which marks you down. If you already have about 11 circles already then this extra one might put your score under 90% and a fail. If you don't have many circles then it will be ok. Certainly dont mount the kerb ever otherwise F3 and you will be out!
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 could you do a video on the circles errors, explaining the various ways which pepople could get a circle error?
@@ethannguyen9872 Sure thing Ethan I'll do it as a FAQ vid in the next few days.

Hi Jimbo, one question. If the window is open do I need to close all the windows when stopping fully after the kerb side parking? Is that marked as well?
No they don't need you to close windows.
I know u r awesome very helpful videos just a big bog biggggggg thank you..
will you give practical coaching sir?
Wondering how you responding to the comments after 1 year of this video. 👌
When leaving the kerb side parking should we turn the steering in advance and leave or same time when leaving?
Hello What a Channel I'm still answering comments from any video. When leaving the kerb I think I usually move then steer. It's not like you have to steer to full lock as in a 3pt.

Thank you for the quick reply i ever got from any youtube channel. ❤
what if we have foot break?
so foot on break - gear on neutral and simultaneously put the foot break and then gear on park and engine off ... Right?
Yea sorry I forgot to add foot brakes to video. Just do the foot brake the same time as the hand brake (lever or e-brake button). So Foot brake on, select Park (don't select Neutral with automatic), Indicator off, Engine off, feet off pedals, say done.
foot brake on, gear on park with foot on brakes , engine off ,done ... is it right ?
Yes with indicator off
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 thanks much
Hi Jimbo,
When parking is it wrong to do gear on parking first and then hand breaks, cancel signal, shut down. I have got used to it but my instructor so far hasn’t told me that it isn’t the correct order. But in your video handbrake goes first and then parking. Need to know the most accurate order. Thanks
Hi Madhavi the order isnt marked as long as it's all done. The order I show is my preferred order.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 thanks Jimbo. I keep following your videos. Got a test date booked in June🤩🤩
@@madi_ram Best of luck 🤞
Hi Jimbo, what happens if your car doesn't have a hand brake it completely sets the hand brake on and off when you put the car in P and D.
If a car has an automatic e brake then just use that. It is the way of the future.

Hello Jimbo, so before checking blind spots to leave the curbside parking, I have to give 5 seconds signal..is that? Thank you
Yes a min of 5 seconds.
Can a driver reverse when doing a kerbside stop if the driver find the car is blocking a driveway,
Yes you can reverse but I would suggest you just keep driving forward if you can.
Can we touch gutter while curb-side parking?
Awesome.
Is it marked to put the car back into gear? Can you just leave it in neutral?
Yes it is marked. You finish in gear.
Excellent 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you.
Brilliant videos Jimbo. You mentioned a 5 second wait for the blinker before coming off the kerb, does this 5 second rule count across all things such as lane changes?
Hi Bethany the 5 second rule is for leaving the kerb or a parking bay. All other diverges i just recommend at least 3 flashes of the signal.
What does it mean to feed off?
Hi Jimbo.. Should I always park on top / touching of the gutter?? I’m usually just exactly outside of the gutter line.. will this cause me instant fail of my driving exam? Thank you..
bump
You need to be within 50cm of the kerb. The gutter is about 40cm. If you are on the gutter then all is good. If you are off it by just a little it will still be ok.
Bro I have Toyota Camry automatic, do I need to put handbreak which on feet or not
Is it a foot operated handbrake?
Hai jimbo. My test drive 5 September and i try looking for the 4 way stop sign but still can't find. Can you please explain to me about 4 way stop sign. Thanks
They don't really exist much in this country. Maybe a handful. Is there one near you ?
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 thank you so much for reply. I did passed my test drive on 5 September.
@@normqrohmayati4874 Congratulations on passing!!! Great work 👍 Thanks for watching and always stay safe 🙂
Might be a bit late to get a response here, but when leaving the curb after starting the 5 second indication, what do you do if a car is approaching behind you? Should you switch off the indicator and wait to start it again, or should you just leave it on until the car passes?
Just leave it on til the car passes is my best recommendation.
Hi, do you have to close the mirrors? I normally do that when I park the car...
When you say close do you mean move them in ? If that is what you mean then no you don't have to do that on the test.
One question while leaving out from the kerb stop after starting engine what first thing we must do? Like do we need to first put the right hand indicator on or have to check mirrors first and when we have to perform head check . Please explain the sequence?
Ali this is explained clearly in the video.
@Ali Raza
The sequence is as below:
1. Check mirrors
2. Signal Right (at least 5 sec)
3. Shoulder check
4. Move when it's safe
very useful thankssssss
What about the back window?
which should be first? handbreak or park?
i usually do the latter first, is that alright?
Hi Deana. Usually do handbrake then Park but it doesn't really matter.
Your videos helped me to pass my test. #firstGo
Congratulations Shanti on passing 1STGO!! Great work. Thanks for watching and stay safe :)
Hey Jimbo, just wanna clarify, when the testing officer asks to do a kerbstop, do you have to slow down and slightly step on the brake BEFORE or AFTER you check the rear and left side mirror? Thanks in advance!
Also, is it okay to do it this way:
1. Check rear mirror
2. Left signal
3. Check the left mirror and left shoulder
4. And then start moving in
@@pipogski Hi Phil generally I would do the checks and signals and then slow. The order of things you listed is good.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 cheers mate!
Hi jimbo just wondering with the curb stop can I reverse to straight up or is that not allowed??
Hello Luke yes you can but that will involve extra reversing headchecks that you may forget to do. It's much easier to just keep going forward to straighten up.
Im confused about curb stoop in conkrit fully cos my instructor told me don’t touch the conceit whats the right way to curb side park ???
There is the kerb and the gutter which are both concrete. He probably meant don't touch the kerb which is correct.
