Just passed my first test at Hornsby! Got only one minor point taken off.. so happy I cried in the RMS (I am 40 years old hahaha so it was a big milestone 🤣🤣). Thankyou so much for your wonderful videos I know they helped me immensely 👍🏻

Man, all these reminders are going to dramatically make my driving much safer! Best thing is that I can come back to it and bam..watch it again and again! Thank you so much for creating these very helpful videos and going the extra mile to actually film the driving itself. I was slightly confused (Overseas drivers aren't always familiar with the terms, so the visual factor really helps out) but once I saw you actually perform it, I had complete clarity! Awesome, awesome, awesome.

Hi AustralianNoBias thank you for your question. Only with one car. There is never any car behind. You can bring your front bumper a max of 7m from the rear bumper of the car in front. Don't go passed 7m as it's a F17 fail item. Just go 5m max if you want. Hope that helps.

Great video! Just wanted to ask what the 'official' steps are for performing a hill start in an automatic car, as i've received conflicting information and just wanted to clear it up. Thanks!
Hi Gloria thank you for your question. Just so you know there is no "Hill start Manoeuvre" in the NSW P1 driving test. However if you are on a hill in traffic just come off the brake and quickly onto the accelerator. Simple as that. The auto shouldn't roll back significantly. Roll back is usually only a problem with the manual. Hope that helps.
In a manual, my driver taught me to listen out for, or feel for, the tension point as you lift off the clutch. Practice finding that specific point where you can feel the clutch kinda do a little grind as you lift off, and that's the point where you swap from brake to accelerator
04:04 I agree with you! I watched some other videos where this method was recommended... it increases the potential for a new driver to stuff up the manoeuvre. At this stage it's about passing the test, not a theoretical and minuscule amount of tyre wear. In real life, three-point turns are reasonably rare, and by the time one is needed, hopefully the driver's steering confidence and competence will have increased, anyway.
Hi Steven your words are a breath of fresh air. Exactly at this point its all about passing the test. Im sure a few purist instructors have hissy fits over this hahaha :)
Hi Jimbo, had my test today & unfortunately I failed. The instructor said I dint perform the 3 point turn well. The lane was extremely narrow & hence I performed a 5 point turn instead, dint know that would be wrong. Your guidance on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙏🏻
Hi there sorry to hear you failed. If you email a pic of your test sheet (you can hide your details if you want) I can have a better idea what went wrong. thedrivingtestguynsw@outlook.com.au
2:55 G’day again Jimbo. I’ve got my driving test coming up this week and was just wondering if instructors expect you to have the car in park and then put it back into drive before doing the turn. Or are you just allowed to keep it in drive and keep your foot on the brake pedal before moving off for the turn? Cheers in advance.
Hi Jimbo, your video series is so much valuable and thank you very much for your great job. I got a question; If my vehicle is long and the three point turn is not technically possible in the particular road (exactly in three points), what would be the situation at the driving test?
Hi, love your videos! When you signal right from the kerb to do the first part of the 3 pointer, can you steer your wheel first to the right and then turn?? As you would do in the rest of the 3 pointer??
Just passed my NSW test. All you videos were a great help. Thanks and Thanks a lot. As a token of appreciation, I can take a video on Albury NSW driving sections if that helps to you.. FInal Score says under Yes raw 25,25,24,7,19, 100 Under No Row1,-,6,7 Total 107. Not sure what this score is.. Can you kindly explain.. ?
Fantastic safety feature but would hate to do 3 point turn with that on if you cant turn it off. Dont get me wrong you shouldnt need to in those vehicles since theres typically a predetermined route, but still.
Hi Jimbo, i want to ask u a question. When we make a left full lock then reverse, which indicator should we use, left indicator or right indicator? Thank u.
Hey Jimbo I've been going through all of your videos in preparation for my driving test this Friday at Newcastle West, they've been really helpful! I just wanted to ask, when you reverse on the 3 point turn do you have to turn on the indicator?
Are examiners particular about steering techniques? Hand-over-hand works well at low speeds when you need to turn the steering wheel fast, but I don't find it or push-pull to be best when performing a 90 degree turn at or more than about 25 km/h. I use a simple but advanced steering technique in those situations, giving me predictable and consistent control, without crossing my arms or overworking my hands, and both hands are kept on the steering wheel the whole time. I got the technique from a YT video years ago and combined it with what I learnt on a race track doing advanced driver training. I recently taught my wife this technique, and she performs it well for her level, but I'm concerned the examiner will disapprove of it in the test. She uses fixed-hand, some push-pull, and hand-over-hand techniques when appropriate (conditions, speed, and degree to which the steering wheel needs to be turned), but this other technique is employed specifically for 90 degree turns at or over about 25 km/h. Would love to hear your perspective.
Hi Jimmy your technique would be ok for your wife. The mains things they dont like holding the steering wheel with one hand (when going forward), getting the hands too tangled, one handed palming (like driving a forklift), hands inside the steering wheel, placing your hands too close together (prefer 10 to 2 or quarter to 3). Thanks for your question :)
Hi Mate, Thanks for the video is superb. Could you please make a video for reverse parallel parking?? please, I am about to give my test soon and i am still confused.
Hi Jimbo, thanks for doing a great job by creating these informative videos. I would like to know that when we reverse our car in 3point turn do we put left indicator ON...or right indicator. I have my test on 10 dec. ....Hope I pass in first go....
Hi Shivangi you don't need to use a signal when you reverse in the 3pt. Just checks. The only signals marked are when you pull in and pull out from the kerb.
my instructor was telling not do dry steering.I guest your tip was better than his tip! haha I find it easier when doing dry steering before moving. do they mark you down if you do dry steering?
Hi Nielson yes some instructors are sensitive about it. I don't mind doing it now and then in particular situations to make things easier during manouevres. You don't get marked down.
Hi sir, just a question. When doing the 3 point turn do you have to change your indicators from left and right depending which way your turning for each step of the 3-point turns?
Dry steering is not something I would say do all the time. I choose to do it during the 3 point turn to make things go better. I have reasons for this.
Good afternoon Jimbo. Thanks so much for these instructive videos. In the P1 driving test will we ever be asked to pull into a driveway to perform a three point turn or is this always performed in the space available on the road? Thanks in advance :)
I got failed in my 1st attempt due to the lane changing and the resason is action require testing officer while changing the lane in 80 zone so it will be great help if you can make a video on that.
@@prakashsapkota7762 Hi Prakash yes lane changing can be tricky when it is busy. You may have not checked your blindspot (headcheck) properly and diverged when not safe. I certainly will cover lane changing in a future vid. In the mean time practice checking Mirrors, Signal, Blindspot and if safe change lanes.
Hi Jimbo, me again, for the optional signal would you be indicating right? I’ve seen you don’t need to indicate while reversing in this manoeuvre but would you normally indicate when swinging out of a 90° park in reverse?
Will we get marked down if we can't do our turn in 3 adjustments? Normally, it runs quite smoothly for me however if it's a very narrow street with lots of parked cars I sometimes have to make a few more adjustments.
Hi Sara if you cannot do your 3pt in 3 moves then the "fix solution" is to perform a 5 point turn. Recheck (360) around car again, look out the back and reverse again. Then back in Drive (or 1st in manual) check 360 around again and then go. The examiner wont mark you down if there was some obstruction or a narrow road that caused you to do a 5 point turn. There never will a be a case to do a 7 point turn on the test. If you can easily do the 3pt in 3 moves and you take 5 because of poor steering then you may get a mark down but certainly no fail.
Hey jimbo, I was wondering after you do ur 5sec signal and pull into the street can u then put a signal on to show cars that u are going left ?….. so put a signal on during the whole process ? Thank you
Yes most students have the urge to change the gears first. So what happens is they do the gear then they do the check , then they go to move and then realise "oh I haven't done the steer yet". Then they have to do the steer and time is elapsing. You will then need to recheck again which often doesn't get done and then it all becomes messy. That's why I see so much better success if you steer first. However if you gear and then actually remember to steer in that order then that will be ok on the test.
thank you jimbo! i was unsure if you had to signal when reversing back. if you were to put a signal on, would if be left or right? i have my first test tomorrow and i'm hopping i'll pass!
Thanks. What to do if there is a vehicle coming toward you while you are blocking the road. Pull back and give them space to pass or continue the turn if they stop and wait for you to do your turn?
Hi Nirman if you are in the middle of the 3pt and there is room for them to pass have a look and see what there intention is. If they are happy to wait then complete the 3pt. If they are coming in fast and going to pass behind you then wait till they do. If there isn't room for them to pass then complete the 3pt.
I prefer to steer first. You may find the urge to gear first. Having watched thousands on 3pt those that gear first often forget to steer and the reverse the wrong way. Then it all gets messy. It's just my opinion.
Hi jimbo! When doing a kerb side stop or reverse parallel park, if you stop a little in someone’s drive way if it a tight fit or something, will they fail you?
Hi Jimbo, got my test next week, quick question. If the road is too narrow for the 3 point turn am I allowed to do multiple reverse to make my car straight.

Hi sir, just a question. When doing the 3 point turn do you have to change your indicators from left and right depending which way your turning for each step of the 3-point turns?
Just do it exactly as in the video and all will be well
Hi Jimbo! Do They mark a Signal for Wendy reversing?
Hi sir just want as you can use dry steering do 3 point turn
Dry steering is not something I would say do all the time. I choose to do it during the 3 point turn to make things go better. I have reasons for this.
Good afternoon Jimbo. Thanks so much for these instructive videos. In the P1 driving test will we ever be asked to pull into a driveway to perform a three point turn or is this always performed in the space available on the road? Thanks in advance :)
Hi Leah. They won't get you to pull into a driveway.
Thank you.
Hi jimbo can you please make a video of lane changing in a highway where the minimum speed limit is 80.
Hi Prakash thank you for your question. I'll put it on the list. Thanks for watching :)
Hi Jimbo thank you so much for your response and i am eagerly waiting for your lane changing video specially in the busy traffic .
Thanks
6:35 When we reverse for 3 point turn, do we need to signal? If yes, do we signal right or left?
Check shoulder or head check on the right side?
Hey jimbo, I was wondering after you do ur 5sec signal and pull into the street can u then put a signal on to show cars that u are going left ?….. so put a signal on during the whole process ? Thank you
You can if you like but that signal is not marked.
Hi Jimbo, i tend to change the gears first then steer the wheel, does the order of what we do matter in the test?
Hi Kate you don't need to signal when reversing. Just checks.
Awesome guy
👍
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 Many thanks for the quick response :-)
Hello Jimbo, Little question here. When I am turning the vehicle I must not cross my arms, is that true ? TKS mate wonderful videos, help me a lot
Hi André yes you can do hand over hand steering which involves crossing over your hands.
Thankyou so much sir ❤️
Do you have to indicate whole reversing?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Super
When steering your wheel before you reverse, which is advisable? Changing your gear to R 1st or steer the your wheel to left?
I prefer to steer first. You may find the urge to gear first. Having watched thousands on 3pt those that gear first often forget to steer and the reverse the wrong way. Then it all gets messy. It's just my opinion.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 thanks for the reply Jimbo. Cheers mate
Nice nice
Hi jimbo! When doing a kerb side stop or reverse parallel park, if you stop a little in someone’s drive way if it a tight fit or something, will they fail you?
Yes so it's important to not park in the driveway. For reverse park they allow it though for practical reasons.
Hi Jimbo, got my test next week, quick question.
If the road is too narrow for the 3 point turn am I allowed to do multiple reverse to make my car straight.
Yes you can. Make sure you do all the checks again. Best of luck 🤞
Thank you sir! I live in Victoria 😭😭
No worries Juan :)
