I enjoyed this review before I tried the blend and now after going through a tin of the stuff and viewing for a second time, I'd have to say that you were pretty well spot on. It is one dimensional, but an enjoyable dimension, I do get a tickle at the back of my throat and its definitely one to be smoked on a full stomach. I get the cigar/pipe comments but economically .... $6 for 1 decent cigar versus $11 for around 20 bowls of No.4. My Scottish ancestry would always choose the latter, :).
Just tried this rope for the first time. Yes, I felt the nicotine. I ate 3 hours before hand. Drank coffee with half and half while smoking. That really helped. Also paced myself and smoked very slowly. I would add that I have over 40 years of pipe smoking experience. I really did enjoy the taste of this tobacco. I concur with your review on the details. To the question you were asking 'Why, why not smoke a cigar?' - 12:52 mark. I can think of one reason: price. It's much more cost effective to smoke pipe tobacco than cigars.
I'm smoking a bowl right now, and coming from smoking cigars, I do agree that there is considerable overlap between Brown No. 4 and the typical medium-body cigar. Strength-wise, closer to a medium-full strength cigar. Definitely the strongest blend I've tried so far (that is, smoked this before I read/viewed any reviews) and was surprised by the strength. I do recommend it for those who want a higher nic punch, but it is somewhat monotonous in flavor. Overall, a strong full body smoke, baking spice with a hint of creamy sweetness. I would suggest blending it with other tobacco and see how you like it. Cheers!

Oh, yeah. I bought and cellared 8 ounces of this rope. Smoking it after cellaring for two years. Strong, peppery, full bodied, nic hit galore. Good review Bradley! Glad I bought this a couple years ago.

Ive tried some really expensive cigars - this has even the 40GDP ones beat in my opinion. It has a creaminess I've never encountered before in a cigar. Admittedly - cigars all taste the same to me. This is a life-changing tobacco, but it took me years of pipe smoking before I could enjoy it. Thanks for your vids Bradley - I really enjoy them!
The true secret of enjoying Brown No. 4 is to age it for about 3+ years. Age doesn't tame the N, but does transform into the creamiest nicest Virginia forward smoke I've ever enjoyed. I always have a large quantity in the cellar aging.
Great review as always! I agree completely with almost all of your review, with one caveat. As a cigar smoker who came later to pipes, I can honestly say that Brown No. 4, while certainly cigar-like in flavor, is unlike any cigar (in taste) that I've ever tried. Certainly not for everybody, but I find it a nice change of pace from my other tobaccos or cigars. I think the high nicotine forces you to slow down your smoking cadence and therefore you focus more on the flavor and experience. Just my opinion however and not meant to take anything away from your review. By the way, if you work your way to Black XX by Gawith, be prepared for a radical (to me at least ) departure in taste! Though slightly less in nicotine, the taste of XX is definitely to be acquired! Thanks again!

I was one of those but I'm now enjoying pipe blends for their own merits because of your reviews. Don't let it go to your head, it may just be the Shiraz and Bahia Maduro talking.
Hi Brad My great Grandfather used to smoke a pipe , during the WWII he used to buy pipe tobacco in a twist form this was very hard and he would cut pieces off and rub them out so this brings back some memories Cheers
Hi Bradley, well, I gave Brown Flake #4 a try. I have to say that your review was spot on. I felt the nicotine, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I do like strong and full bodied cigars so this didn't knock me off my feet nor did my face melt "lol". It reminded me of the first time a smoked a real Cuban cigar. I was impressed by the Cuban cigar but, I wasn't really impressed by the#4. I think I might use this to mix in with other tobacco and make my own blend. I much preferred Best Brown Flake! My favorite cigar blends are C&D's Billy Budd or Key Largo! I have to say that I almost gave up on pipe smoking before I tried Billy Budd & Key Largo. Those blends helped to open up my palette to pipe smoking and I now like a variety of blends from Virginia's to English blends. As I write this I'm enjoying MacBarren's HH Arcadian Perique which has become one of my favorites. As always, thanks for yet another great video!
I recently turned 18 and I was hoping to start getting into pipe smoking because I loved the idea of the contemplative routine and I've enjoyed the taste and experience of smoking cigarettes in the past. It's just a shame that we have new legislation here in the UK making all the packets exactly the same and ugly, I'm not sure if I'm even going to bother. My opinion is that if kids are exposed to cigarette packaging then it's poor parenting and not the fault of manufacturers.
Bradley. I'm A Lakeland lover/smoker. But I need you to tell me what is a good Lakeland interesting complex somewhat floral sit/lay down blend. I tend to monster on Condor Long Cut. But need to tell folks what to buy me for birthday and Christmas lol. Kendal is about 50 miles from me. Lovely town. Gawith,Gawith and Gawith should open a bloody tobacco shop.
I'll have to try this. I really like the taste and aroma of cigar smoke, but I'm not crazy about actually smoking cigars. Anything with even a moderate ring gauge feels uncomfortable in my mouth. I much prefer a pipe or a Toscano cigar for this reason. This blend sounds perfect for when I want cigar-like flavor.
I found a tin of this and a local headshop (lol). It must have been aging on the shelf for years since nobody going in there smokes tobacco pipes. Hoooly crap, this stuff is delicious. I'm sure the age on the tin helped because it's wonderful.
I get the same cigar experience from the brown twists. So I gravitated towards the Black Irish XX twist. No cigar notes there, but a heavy tar-like character instead. Doesn't sound particularly good, but it's delicious. You can take a pipe with you and enjoy a few sips on and off throughout the day. I believe that's the way the Irish codgers do it. Very satisfying. Not quite as strong as the brown twist, but it's still pretty strong.
I like an occasional, good cigar. There is, like you stated, a defined difference between the two enjoyments, and definite need to separate church and state.
This is as difficult to obtain as Penzance. Fortunately I had the foresight and cash, to buy two tins each of this and Black twist about 3 years ago. I think it’s time to open one.

I love the Padron's and my all time favorite's been Gawith&Hogarth Rum twist, another blend full of lady N and Rum with burnt sugar notes, earthy sweet, a little fruity etc... its good. I'll have to try this one, great review. Cheers
The bogie version of this was a daily smoke in the UK in working class areas. It was also chewed, particularly by miners. It is fairly strong tobacco but you've got to remember just how much people used to smoke 100 years ago.
Pretty hard to find now yea? I think i read something that samuel gawith blends might be done in the USA? Sure seems hard to find this stuff anywhere online. Also you mentioned a cigar sometimes might hit your harder and that reminded me the guy at my local pipe shop mentioned when you smoke a cigar you have direct contact with the leaf to your lips and you can absorb nicotine through that. not sure how much that matters but interesting point

Force me to choose one firecured baccy without Latakia for the rest of my life and it would be Brown Rope No.4. Would gladly kick out Mc Baren Old dark fired & Bold Kentucky and even Orlik dark strong Kentucky and my beloved Lakeland Dark out of my rotation. My tins from 2013 tasted best. Black XX twist is helluva tobacco,I've still one tin left and after this review I shall open it. Sadly there's not some many rope tobaccos around. I should check this one...sounds delicious. Last week, I decided it was time for a new Peterson. I ordered one from smoking pipes. Having seen your Sunday Smoke, I decided to throw in some Brown No. 4. I dried the tobacco for a couple days. I had a lot of issues keeping it lit. I have a very high tolerance for nicotine. Honestly, it did not hit me as hard as Nightcap does. It was similar (nicotine wise) to Lakeland Dark or 1792 - although I think the flavor of these tobaccos is superior to Brown No 4. I'm curious to see how I feel about it after three bowls, which is usually when I know if it would be something I would again order. Thanks for another GREAT review. Very straightforward review! I am like you in a way, if you want a cigar experience...smoke a cigar! If you want a pipe experience...smoke a pipe! I really do not think there is a happy medium here...or ever will be. Some things are meant to be enjoyed just as they are!
I've been looking forward to your review of this and it didn't disappoint. I agree on most points. It wasn't bad, but I don't see it becoming a staple in my rotation. I jarred mine up after a few bowls and it will probably be a couple of years before I smoke it all. Looking forward to Best Brown Flake.

I like it. i got a tin and got some nice conac left over in it and i'm aging it. I'm dying to find out how it will roll months or year later. On clay or meerchaum this tastes even more cigar-ish I can think of a reason to smoke this 1. when you don't wanna smoke as much as full cigar : this is much easier to control the amound of smoke i guess 2. when you wanna smoke decent cigar at a cheap price.
The steamed version of this is Black XX. It tames down the nic but ups the flavor. Both excellent tobaccos.I listed the Black XX as my favorite blend this year.
Interesting. I don't know that I've ever felt the nicotine for a cigar, even though I sought out the strongest I could find at my local brick and mortar. I moved to pipes and for the first time I felt nicotine courtesy of Irish Flake. I love Gawith's Happy Brown Bogie twist.
Skip LFD. Even the strongest Dominican doesn’t come near a medium full AJ Fernandez or My Father or Tatuaje. Jaime Garcia reserva especial in gordo is a great strong smoke!

my favorite ci ga r is also the padron natural and/or the Maduro but that has its place in my heart but I really enjoy the brown 4 for what it is but also the thing is unfortunately I can't smoke as many cigars a day as I can pipes so things like this keep me when I can't always have a cigar
Kudos from Sweden! A nice review as always. I concur as to the strength, it is one of the stronger blends that I have tried. On the topic of those - ever thought about reviewing any of Cornell & Diehl's burley blends, such as the burley flakes or Old Joe Krantz? Now those are some heavy hitters!
I don't know how true it is, but I've heard that the "old guys" used to chew it, and then smoke it, don't know if it is true or not, or what they supposedly did between the chewing and the smoking, but I've heard that from multiple people.
Nice review and interesting blend when I am smoking a high nicotine blend I usually reach for a pack of chips or ham sandwich just to calm down the effects of the nicotine kick if it has been several hours since I last eaten.
Have you tried Kendal Mix? I like the Brown No. 4, because I apparently like Banshee's screaming in my face ... but I find Kendal Mix is more complex, less cigar like, not as strong but still with a kick.

I could not have put it down any better than that Brad.Its easily available here in the UK.I don`t like cigars and this one tasted like one.The nicotine never got to me but I smoke Condor and ST Bruno on a regular basis because I love them and they are the only ones left in my local supermarket.I also hated 1792 by Sam Gawith.That was just so bad I cannot describe.Irish Flake and Rattrays Stirling Flake are stronger in Nic to me but they say they are the same blend.Subtle differences to me I may add.Both higher in Nic than Gawiths Brown Rope but thats just me.Try Condor Flake.Good strong Lakeland baccy.Jim.Liverpool.

Hey Bradley, question: many pipe blends, such as this one, specify "cigar leaf" but give no indication of origin. As you well know, cigar leaf is grown all over the world. Any idea from where the cigar leaf in this blend, or others, derives?
Okay, having finally smoked and enjoyed Brown. 4 I must say something about it. Why is everyone saying this tobacco is overwhelmingly strong? It's not. It's not even as strong as 1792 Flake. Now as to the whole cigar leaf thing. I contacted Samuel Gawith and they confirmed to me that there was no cigar leaf (or any Burley) in Brown. 4. It might taste a bit like a cigar (to me it tastes a lot better than a cigar), but it's not because it has cigar leaf.
There must have been some miscommunication with Gawith then. This blend most definitely contains dark-fired tobaccos and is wrapped in cigar leaf. If it doesn't contain dark-fired and isn't wrapped in a cigar leaf, then they somehow managed to make different tobaccos look and taste exactly like dark-fired and cigar leaf. Thanks for watching!
Interesting, but it seems like Bob is being just a TAD too punctilious in his response to you. He says that No. 4 has a Dark-Fired wrapper, but then claims that No. 4 has no Burley. Technically, Dark-Fired IS considered distinct from Burley, but most people consider the Kentucky that Dark-fired is cured from to be a kind of Burley. Also, the distinction as to wether the wrapper is really cigar leaf or not rings a little too cute as well. It looks, smells, and tastes (to very many people) just like the type of tobacco used in cigar wrappers. The fact that it doesn't come from a region traditionally associated with cigar manufacture might be interesting to know, but it doesn't change the experience you have when smoking it. It's like saying that only sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France can be called champagne. Fair enough, but the sparkling wine I've had from Napa Valley sure tastes like champagne to me. Anyway, good discussion. Maybe other viewers would like to chime in with their opinions as well. Thanks for watching!
Brown. 4 might taste a bit like a good cigar, but it doesn't smell like one at all. The smell actually reminds me of Three Nuns, just a lot more rich and robust.
Irish flake really knocked me down several times, love the taste but too much nicotine for me...so i can't imagine giving that Brown.n.4 a try. Don't know if you ever saw that set of pictures from a spanish guy who visited Gawith factory rinconpipa.foroactivo.com/t3239-samuel-gawith-reportaje-fotografico-de-marcelino-piquero , you understand why it is so wet and deserves its "Gawith" type of moisture as you rightly define them ( St James Flake was the worst i experienced, and i hardly found the right moisture to smoke it easily...great tobacco though)

(AKA phlegmhead) First, I enjoy your reviews and agree with you most of the time. However, I must disagree with your review. I love this blend. I’ve smoked cigars for 40 years and this is definitely a pipe tobacco blend as opposed to being overly cigarlike. To me, the Virginias and Kentucky shine through overwhelmingly with sweetness, creaminess, and smoothness with certainly a cigar note in the background. I took up pipe smoking because I am on a fixed income and cigar smoking has become too expensive. You say you would rather smoke a cigar than this blend. In that respect, I also have to disagree with you because, in my case, I can buy a Padron for $6 or a tin of Brown #4 (which I enjoy much more) for $10.75 (when I can find it). I get one decent cigar for $6 and 10 to 15 amazing pipefuls for less than two times the price of a good cigar. This is important to me.
M8 you should let this sit for at least 3 years... Tasted like crap to me smoked fresh. After 3 years and removing the outer layer leaf it became one of the best SGs i had. Preparation:Sliced realy thick coins, removed tabacco outer leaf cross cut coins and very very gently rubbed out. By the way i saw your review of solani aged burley. You as a colonist should realy smoke C&D Briar Fox." FROM US FOR US" Get it? The best Burley Blend i tried so far and when smoked slow the second half o bowl becomes nuts.................. heaven. K&K s SOLANI AGED BURLEY for me is the worst example of an over the top topping cased "sugar" tabacco..
I highly recommend old joe krantz and briar fox if you liked the solani burley. What the earthy burley in briar fox does to the fine virginias is unique.
the only thing I got from this was that you probably need to enjoy more cigars. cigars are probably more widely varied than tobacco blends for pipe smoking. I wonder how the review would have differed if you didn't know there was a "cigar leaf" involved.
Doesn't look appealing, from what I've heard twist tobacco was loved by sailors in the 1700s and 1800s because it was easy to store and could be either smoked in a pipe or used a chewing tobacco.

I would imagine that the steamed, black tobacco WOULD have a nice bitter tar quality. I'll have to try it out soon.
I like an occasional, good cigar. There is, like you stated, a defined difference between the two enjoyments, and definite need to separate church and state.
This is as difficult to obtain as Penzance. Fortunately I had the foresight and cash, to buy two tins each of this and Black twist about 3 years ago. I think it’s time to open one.

I love the Padron's and my all time favorite's been Gawith&Hogarth Rum twist, another blend full of lady N and Rum with burnt sugar notes, earthy sweet, a little fruity etc... its good. I'll have to try this one, great review. Cheers

The bogie version of this was a daily smoke in the UK in working class areas. It was also chewed, particularly by miners. It is fairly strong tobacco but you've got to remember just how much people used to smoke 100 years ago.
Pretty hard to find now yea? I think i read something that samuel gawith blends might be done in the USA? Sure seems hard to find this stuff anywhere online. Also you mentioned a cigar sometimes might hit your harder and that reminded me the guy at my local pipe shop mentioned when you smoke a cigar you have direct contact with the leaf to your lips and you can absorb nicotine through that. not sure how much that matters but interesting point

Force me to choose one firecured baccy without Latakia for the rest of my life and it would be Brown Rope No.4. Would gladly kick out Mc Baren Old dark fired & Bold Kentucky and even Orlik dark strong Kentucky and my beloved Lakeland Dark out of my rotation. My tins from 2013 tasted best. I only have 400 gram left of this heavenly weed i purchased 8 tins in 2013. Must get more to let it age.

Black XX twist is helluva tobacco,I've still one tin left and after this review I shall open it. Sadly there's not some many rope tobaccos around. I should check this one...sounds delicious. How is with your new Dunhill, sweet smoker?, I've only heard good things about them Dunhills.

Royal Yacht is pretty high in nicotine. Not in the same league as Brown No. 4 though.
Last week, I decided it was time for a new Peterson. I ordered one from smoking pipes. Having seen your Sunday Smoke, I decided to throw in some Brown No. 4. I dried the tobacco for a couple days. I had a lot of issues keeping it lit. I have a very high tolerance for nicotine. Honestly, it did not hit me as hard as Nightcap does. It was similar (nicotine wise) to Lakeland Dark or 1792 - although I think the flavor of these tobaccos is superior to Brown No 4. I'm curious to see how I feel about it after three bowls, which is usually when I know if it would be something I would again order. Thanks for another GREAT review. Looking forward to seeing that Colt.

Very straightforward review! I am like you in a way, if you want a cigar experience...smoke a cigar! If you want a pipe experience...smoke a pipe! I really do not think there is a happy medium here...or ever will be. Some things are meant to be enjoyed just as they are!

It wasn't bad, but I don't see it becoming a staple in my rotation. I jarred mine up after a few bowls and it will probably be a couple of years before I smoke it all.

I like it. i got a tin and got some nice conac left over in it and i'm aging it. I'm dying to find out how it will roll months or year later. On clay or meerchaum this tastes even more cigar-ish
I can think of a reason to smoke this
1. when you don't wanna smoke as much as full cigar : this is much easier to control the amound of smoke i guess
2. when you wanna smoke decent cigar at a cheap price.
The steamed version of this is Black XX. It tames down the nic but ups the flavor. Both excellent tobaccos.I listed the Black XX as my favorite blend this year.
I'm sure I'll review the black soon as well.
I found that the black twist tasted a bit flatter to me, without the sweeter, fire cured flavours. It's like black cavendish in a way.

Interesting. I don't know that I've ever felt the nicotine for a cigar, even though I sought out the strongest I could find at my local brick and mortar. I moved to pipes and for the first time I felt nicotine courtesy of Irish Flake. I love Gawith's Happy Brown Bogie twist.
The Oktavism Channel try La Flor Dominicana cigars.
Skip LFD. Even the strongest Dominican doesn’t come near a medium full AJ Fernandez or My Father or Tatuaje. Jaime Garcia reserva especial in gordo is a great strong smoke!

my favorite ci ga r is also the padron natural and/or the Maduro but that has its place in my heart but I really enjoy the brown 4 for what it is but also the thing is unfortunately I can't smoke as many cigars a day as I can pipes so things like this keep me when I can't always have a cigar
Try Erik stokkebye 4th generation 1931 flake. As far as I can tell no added flavours tastes good to me, though I am new to pipe tobacco.
Kudos from Sweden! A nice review as always. I concur as to the strength, it is one of the stronger blends that I have tried. On the topic of those - ever thought about reviewing any of Cornell & Diehl's burley blends, such as the burley flakes or Old Joe Krantz? Now those are some heavy hitters!

I don't know how true it is, but I've heard that the "old guys" used to chew it, and then smoke it, don't know if it is true or not, or what they supposedly did between the chewing and the smoking, but I've heard that from multiple people.
Nice review and interesting blend when I am smoking a high nicotine blend I usually reach for a pack of chips or ham sandwich just to calm down the effects of the nicotine kick if it has been several hours since I last eaten.
Yep. Definitely helps to get a little ballast in the stomach.

Have you tried Kendal Mix? I like the Brown No. 4, because I apparently like Banshee's screaming in my face ... but I find Kendal Mix is more complex, less cigar like, not as strong but still with a kick.

Good review. If I may ask, what is at the end of your pipe? Is it a tooth guard or something, or is that just my misconceptions.
He's using a rubber bit to protect the stem from tooth marks or scratches, but it's sitting behind the Peterson "P-lip" design of his pipe. It's a unique design with its own benefits.

I could not have put it down any better than that Brad.Its easily available here in the UK.I don`t like cigars and this one tasted like one.The nicotine never got to me but I smoke Condor and ST Bruno on a regular basis because I love them and they are the only ones left in my local supermarket.I also hated 1792 by Sam Gawith.That was just so bad I cannot describe.Irish Flake and Rattrays Stirling Flake are stronger in Nic to me but they say they are the same blend.Subtle differences to me I may add.Both higher in Nic than Gawiths Brown Rope but thats just me.Try Condor Flake.Good strong Lakeland baccy.Jim.Liverpool.

The pipe tabacco reviews of our good friend bradley are all brilantly done. I would love to see more blends by Cornell & Diehl like Opening Night (Simply Elegant Series) best Virginia i had in my life or McClellands Personal Reserve blends wich are one of the best in the world like many other blends by them. I am a big fan of US pipe tabaccos and your people Carolina-leaf/ Kentucky-leaf/ Virginia-leaf Luisiana-Perique and so on......... and there is STUFFandTHINGS. *cough* fan boy

I very much enjoy ur videos for pipe stuff and ur gaming stuff im relatively new to pipe smoking and ive got a question when u talk about drying out ur tonacco how long do u do that for before u smoke it ive got my few tobaccos in jars to keep them moist but i dont know how long to sit it out before i smoke it luv the videos thx for ur time
I just take out as much as I need to fill a bowl and put it to the side. The time will vary depending on how wet the tobacco is and other factors.
Hey Bradley, question: many pipe blends, such as this one, specify "cigar leaf" but give no indication of origin. As you well know, cigar leaf is grown all over the world. Any idea from where the cigar leaf in this blend, or others, derives?
Can't say that I do. It might be possible to contact Gawith Hoggarth and ask them directly.

Okay, having finally smoked and enjoyed Brown. 4 I must say something about it. Why is everyone saying this tobacco is overwhelmingly strong? It's not. It's not even as strong as 1792 Flake. Now as to the whole cigar leaf thing. I contacted Samuel Gawith and they confirmed to me that there was no cigar leaf (or any Burley) in Brown. 4. It might taste a bit like a cigar (to me it tastes a lot better than a cigar), but it's not because it has cigar leaf.
There must have been some miscommunication with Gawith then. This blend most definitely contains dark-fired tobaccos and is wrapped in cigar leaf. If it doesn't contain dark-fired and isn't wrapped in a cigar leaf, then they somehow managed to make different tobaccos look and taste exactly like dark-fired and cigar leaf.

Interesting, but it seems like Bob is being just a TAD too punctilious in his response to you. He says that No. 4 has a Dark-Fired wrapper, but then claims that No. 4 has no Burley. Technically, Dark-Fired IS considered distinct from Burley, but most people consider the Kentucky that Dark-fired is cured from to be a kind of Burley. Also, the distinction as to wether the wrapper is really cigar leaf or not rings a little too cute as well. It looks, smells, and tastes (to very many people) just like the type of tobacco used in cigar wrappers. The fact that it doesn't come from a region traditionally associated with cigar manufacture might be interesting to know, but it doesn't change the experience you have when smoking it. It's like saying that only sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France can be called champagne. Fair enough, but the sparkling wine I've had from Napa Valley sure tastes like champagne to me.
Anyway, good discussion. Maybe other viewers would like to chime in with their opinions as well.

Brown. 4 might taste a bit like a good cigar, but it doesn't smell like one at all. The smell actually reminds me of Three Nuns, just a lot more rich and robust.

Don't know if you ever saw that set of pictures from a spanish guy who visited Gawith factory rinconpipa.foroactivo.com/t3239-samuel-gawith-reportaje-fotografico-de-marcelino-piquero , you understand why it is so wet and deserves its "Gawith" type of moisture as you rightly define them ( St James Flake was the worst i experienced, and i hardly found the right moisture to smoke it easily...great tobacco though)

you most of the time. However, I must disagree with your review. I love this
blend. I’ve smoked cigars for 40 years and this is definitely a pipe tobacco
blend as opposed to being overly cigarlike. To me, the Virginias and Kentucky
shine through overwhelmingly with sweetness, creaminess, and smoothness with certainly
a cigar note in the background. I took up pipe smoking because I am on a fixed income and cigar smoking has become too expensive. You say you would rather smoke a cigar than this blend. In that respect, I also have to disagree with you because, in my case, I can buy a
Padron for $6 or a tin of Brown #4 (which I enjoy much more) for $10.75 (when I
can find it). I get one decent cigar for $6 and 10 to 15 amazing pipefuls for less
than two times the price of a good cigar. This is important to me.

M8 you should let this sit for at least 3 years... Tasted like crap to me smoked fresh. After 3 years and removing the outer layer leaf it became one of the best SGs i had. Preparation:Sliced realy thick coins, removed tabacco outer leaf cross cut coins and very very gently rubbed out. By the way i saw your review of solani aged burley. You as a colonist should realy smoke C&D Briar Fox." FROM US FOR US" Get it? The best Burley Blend i tried so far and when smoked slow the second half o bowl becomes nuts.................. heaven. K&K s SOLANI AGED BURLEY for me is the worst example of an over the top topping cased "sugar" tabacco..

I highly recommend old joe krantz and briar fox if you liked the solani burley. What the earthy burley in briar fox does to the fine virginias is unique.
the only thing I got from this was that you probably need to enjoy more cigars. cigars are probably more widely varied than tobacco blends for pipe smoking. I wonder how the review would have differed if you didn't know there was a "cigar leaf" involved.
Doesn't look appealing, from what I've heard twist tobacco was loved by sailors in the 1700s and 1800s because it was easy to store and could be either smoked in a pipe or used a chewing tobacco.
Yep. Twists, ropes, plugs etc. were all good ways to store tobacco for extended lengths of time without it drying out too much.
