I was at this game and to this day nothing sends a shiver up spine like it,it was a special day from the scottish teams slow walk on to the pitch..,,the singing of Flower of Scotland...to the final whistle...LOVE IT...LOVE SCOTLAND
Similar to ‘95 RWC with SA v All Blacks and Nelson Mandela wore a Bok jersey on at final. I was watching it in Turkey at a beach club and knew SA would win.
They can still sing it, but I wonder how it feels to sing the second verse. They literally don't believe that we can be the nation again. They voted exactly the opposite.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I'm a Scot, exiled in London for 8 years who has just accepted a job back in Edinburgh. Is Scotland full of people like you? Because I might not want to come back if it is. You narrow-minded, pathetic wee soul. Flower Of Scotland is my song, it's OUR song and how dare you take from any of us.
***** The oil doesnt really matter. Whilst negotiations over who gets what were taking place and all of that scotland would still be a part of the uk, these negotiations would have taken at least two years. By then the oil crisis should of stopped. If not the oil was nothing more than a bonus. Scotland could still do well without it.
I'm an Englishman (With a son called Edward) and this always runs shivers down my spine. Celebrate your history, proud Scotland, and declare your independence if it is your will.
At the beginning there was nothing else for me than my Marseillaise. There was no other anthem I could bear and sing. But when I first saw the lyrics of Flower of Scotland, when I understood them, I had a feeling I never had before and I was just like 'woah'.. till that days I can't refrain myself to sing it when I hear it, or even when I'm happy. This song really makes me want to discover Scotland and Scottish people.
I listened to this anthem for the first time 3 years ago in a pub in Edinburgh, and everytime I hear it, it thrills me! C'mon Scotland! a friend from Italy
Am from liverpool and I absolutely love this anthem . Remember watching England v Scotland in pub in Edinburgh and I had never really took notice of the Scottish national anthem before. The pubs atmosphere was unbelievable .the best anthem of them all.
I am english.. I absolutely respect this song & think it's brilliant. I've seen a few versions of this now and this is the best, the way the crowd actually go out of time with the bagpipes makes it better I think, it makes it more raw. Respect Scotland and her proud people.
I watch this video two or three times a week.My ancestors braved the Atlantic from Ayrshire and Renfrewshire to arrive in Canada nearly two hundred years ago, but our pride in that ancestry has never diminished. Indeed, the head of the large family hosted the first Burns' Night supper in Scarborough, Ontario, in 1834
Oh flower of Scotland When will we see your light again? That fought and died for your wee bit hill and glen And stood against him (AGAINST HIM!) Proud Edward's army And sent them homeward Tae think again Those hills are bare now And autumn leaves lie thick and still For land that is lost now But oh so dearly held We stood against him (AGAINST WHO?) Proud Edwards army And sent him homeward Tae think again Those days are past now And in the past they must remain For we can all rise now And be the nation again That stood against him (AGAINST HIM!) Proud Edwards army And send him homeward Taaaaeee think agaaiiinnnnnn
I was fortunate to be at this classic Grand Slam game... although I am Canadian I am a huge fan of Scotland and the Scottish. I sang my ass off during this anthem. It was my second visit to Scotland on rugby tours... still holds a big piece of my heart. And Scotland was victorious!!!
With a lot of respect. Well, I saw almost 30 000 Scottish at the "Stade de France" and...always the same passion, the same determination. Just...continue to be proud.
There was (and some people don't like to admit it) a politically charged atmosphere in Murrayfield that year. Thatcher was still on the throne at that point and she certainly spooked a lot of Scots, poll tax, decimation of heavy industry etc. It is not incorrect to say that she was perhaps the largest factor in the setting up of the Scottish parliament.
I was in South Affrica in 1993 playing rugby for a Welsh school with Dollar Academy from Scotland, they played the pipes when we we sang our anthem and we joined them in Flower of Scotland when they played, it was magic, great times, the power of rugby to unite should not be forgot.
About 10 years ago, I took on the daunting task of tracing our family tree for a reunion. I was surprised to learn that we were related to one Lachlan McGillivray of the clan MacGillivray of the Scottish Highlands. Ever since, Scotland has taken on a whole new meaning to me. I am proud of my Scots roots, and I thank you for this post. Cheers!
@DEOO100 And we love to join in your fabulous anthem. You make us so welcome in Cardiff, what a great fixture. I had the honour of standing to sing for he's a jolly good fellow, in the Millenium Stadium, on the occasion of the last commentary by Bill McLaren, you all did him proud. Great stadium, great crowds, great singing, great traditions, great Nations.
Flower of Scotland is an epic anthem, symbolizing perfectly the history of this country. Good luck for the referendum, Scottish comrades. Stop the Union Act! From France. Une Écosse indépendante pour embêter comme il se doit les anglais!
Downfall Dolfy You created it and refused to leave it not even 18 months ago. We don't have any more control over Westminster than you do. We don't even have our own parliament like Scotland does. It's us who should be complaining about you getting free everything and thousands more spent on Scots per person than English.
Downfall Dolfy No we wouldn't, we had a Scottish PM in Gordon Brown not too long ago. You only got a vote because you want independence so much, whereas England doesn't give a shit as we're not represented either way.
I went to rome for the 6 nations match against scotland a week ago..wonderful experience!!!and since then I have this wonderful song in my mind!!!...it's weird but I started to feel a bit scottish too...go scotland!!!! ciao from an italian friend..
That whole day was built on pride and emotion, from the walk, through the anthem and into the game there was a special feeling among those players that meant they were not going to be denied. England never stood a chance!
People down in New Zealand recall this game well, especially the atmosphere. It was a great lead-in to the Scots subsequent tour down under. Having the then World Cup champs vs the 5 Nations Champs play at Dunedin (known as the Scottish capital of NZ) was amazing.
simply phenominal, and listening to bill mclaren at the end brings a tear to the eye. ANYONE reading who would like to pay their respects to bill can do so at a tribute night at murrayfield on the 11th of March, thats this coming Thursday. rip bill
Amen. I'm English, but i route for Wales, Scotland and NI as if they were my own. I couldnt wish to have better brothers than the ones we've been blessed with. We've fought together, died together and now we live together. The St George's cross it's etched on my heart, but it beats right across the borders. God bless Wales, my friend.
I was at this match on First Aid Duty and never experienced anything like it in my life. Amazing day out, and when I got home my mum was sitting in tears :-)
As an American Rugby Player who has had the pleasure of playing in Scotland, it is truly inspirational. I heard this sung in a stadium for the first time in Wales in the 1992 World Cup. What a truly remarkable event and to hear it sung with such pride and heart. Wonderful. Please do not hate all Americans only the ignorant who have no sense of History. The same a**holes probably would tell you they loved Braveheart. .
I love this song. And not the least of the Scottish supporters achievements is that they know all the words. I am English, I am proud to be English and I have stood among thousands of fellow Englishmen and women, singing our little hearts out in support of the English team. But I have to admit, if there are more than four words to Swing low sweet chariot, I have never heard them.
Rugby is a game played by sportsmen and enjoyed by people of all nations. I have enjoyed this game in stadiums and also in bars, hotels on the television with supporters of other countries, and there was never any trouble, always the love of the game being more important than any hatred for the sake of trouble alone. If you are willing to take a smack on the head, and eat mud, I think you deserve the respect that rugby supporters have. Long live this wonderful game!
Love our anthem, love our passion and hope we never lose it. But respect is the best policy, for everyone, no matter where you are, where you came from. Listen and enjoy, have pride if its yours. Its what its there for.
im an irish man true and true but i always admire the passion and patriotism of the Scots...this gives me the shivers - god bless the rivalry between the great nations of england and scotland
You will always remain my second rugby team (from a french fan). SCOTLAND !
The french are our auld ally passe une bonne journée mon ami
Vive l'écosse vive nos frères écossais vive l'auld alliance.
Auld Alliance.
Who needs a Haka when you’ve got this
Very nice but not a patch on Amhran na Bhfiann at Lansdowne Road or Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau at Cardiff Arms Park
Scotts need to stop getting there ass kicked by every team on earth before they even consider a Haka 😂😂😂
@@k13mack, scots, I don't know who the Scotts are, next door neighbours of yours perhaps?
Both are good

I am a french man but I definitely love you scottish people ! You and your beautiful land and your magnificent anthem !
YOUR ANTHEM IS PRETTY DAMN GOOD ALSO AS IS THE WELSH!....after these three though .......?

I'm Welsh but, this anthem always brings tears to my eyes! Love it.
Scotland had this game won before a ball was kicked absolutely hair raising stuff
Cymru am byth, but love flower of Scotland anthem, love the scenery up there as I’m always up that area
Similar to ‘95 RWC with SA v All Blacks and Nelson Mandela wore a Bok jersey on at final. I was watching it in Turkey at a beach club and knew SA would win.
Arguably the best Scottish line-up from modern day rugby! Every one of them a giant!!!
Im Irish! This gives me goosepimples!
That was my favorite book growing up! Loved the goosepimple series.
I'm Irish and Scottish!!! You're right!!!

Just back from Scotland...that was amazing...thanks to all the scotish people for their hospitality
You know the crowd are amazing when even Bill McLaren (the voice of rugby) is at a loss for words
i'm french to and I love this anthem, the most beautiful in the world!
Go Scotland!!
This has never lost its power to bring real tears
Fabulous! And i'm Welsh. What a team that was. Scotland 1990, formidable.
I'm French and...wow...such a beautiful anthem ! One of the greatest ever !!
un magnifique hymne, c'est beau de voir des gens fier de chanter une chanson qui réunit tout un peuple. L'Ecosse est un beau pays. Vive l'Ecosse
I think every Celt was a Scotsman that day. A never to be forgotten rugby epic.
Edinburgh's Murrayfield may no longer roar so loudly as only the Forty-Fivers can sing this song with real conviction now.
55% cowards? You seriously need to get a life buddy
They can still sing it, but I wonder how it feels to sing the second verse. They literally don't believe that we can be the nation again. They voted exactly the opposite.
