The discussion of cinema influencing society/young minds is so ancient and irrelevant.
The actual impacting criteria these days is the freedom and the kind of content which is put out in the form of reels/short videos. It makes them cool with 1) disrespectable to elders 2) mocking everything and anything that has happened in their knowledge 3) Social behaviour which is intruding into another person's privacy. Movies are passe' and there will be a time when movies will be full of talent from the SM world.

@@nikhilnambiar1990 ഗുരുവായൂർ അമ്പലനടയിൽ ക്ലൈമാക്സിലെ അമ്പലത്തിലുള്ള സീനുകളാണ് ശോകമായി തോന്നിയെ... ബാക്കിയുള്ള മിക്കതും workout ആയിരുന്നു... പിന്നെ പഴയ directors and writers ഇപ്പോ cinema എടുക്കുന്നതിൽ പരാജയ പെടുകയാണ്.. അതിനു കാരണം content ഒരുപാടു നിത്യേന നമ്മൾ മൊബൈലിലും TV യിലും ആയി കാണുന്നുണ്ട്... ഇപ്പോഴുള്ള writers ന് കഴിവില്ലാന്ന് പറയുന്നില്ല but Content കിട്ടാൻ വളരെയധികം കഷ്ടപെടുന്നുണ്ട്... മൊബൈലും റീൽസും ഉള്ള കാലo ആയത് കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ജനങ്ങളെ തൃപ്തി പെടുത്തുക എന്നുള്ളത് വളരെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടാണ്...അത് പോലെ തന്നെ നമ്മളൊക്കെ പണ്ട് ആസ്വദിച്ചിരുന്ന പഴയ കാല കോമഡി ചിത്രങ്ങളൊക്കെ ഇപ്പോഴുള്ള കുട്ടികൾക്കൊക്കെ ബോറായ തോന്നിക്കുന്നെ... എന്റെ സഹോദരിയുടെ കുട്ടി ഒരു പഴയ പടം പോലും കാണാൻ കൂട്ടാക്കില്ല.. Generation Gap നല്ല പോലെ പ്രതിഭലിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.. അന്നത്തെ കാലത്ത് അതായിരുന്നു ബെസ്റ്റ് ഇന്നത്തെ കാലത്ത് വേറെയും.. എല്ലാരുടെയും ചിന്താഗതി തന്നെ മാറി പോയി..ഇന്നുള്ളവരെ കുറ്റം പറഞ്ഞിട്ട് കാര്യമില്ല.... Abhinav Sunder Nayak couldn’t be more wrong, in my opinion. There’s a huge difference between the quick, low-effort comedy of Instagram reels and the craft that goes into a genuinely good comedy film. Acting like they’re the same thing is just lazy.
And the idea that cinema doesn’t influence people? That’s just not true. Should it influence people? No. But the reality is, most people, like someone once said, are idiots. Look at it the opposite way - War movies have inspired people to enlist, sports films have pushed countless people to take up those sports, and just recently, 12th Fail led to a spike in UPSC aspirants. If movies can push people toward something positive, then they can just as easily influence them in the other direction.
I get his point that anything can trigger underlying mental issues, but let’s not pretend cinema doesn’t have the power to push people to do things-good or bad-that they otherwise wouldn’t have. It absolutely does.
The comedy seen in movies of this generation are more or less the ones scene in various social media platforms. So he is spot on with that.
@@sanwinbosco2347 Not really. The funniest moments in movies like Avesham, Romancham, Premalu or Jan-E-Man aren't things I've seen in social media. Hell, nothing on reels can even remotely compare with the funniest scenes in something like Aadu. Like sure, there would be mediocre comedy movies that take things directly from reels but that's not what I'm referring to. Good comedy from good comedy movies are still far better than anything that a 30-second social media platform can offer.
Exactly! Reels are made from relatable life or film contexts.
Movies create their own contexts and the payoff/punchline for the joke would be later in the movie. We need more authentic comedies. Jis Joy explains it clearly at 13:00
I think Abhinav, was spot on. IMO What he meant was, with the kind of comedy that's served in SM these days, the expectations from a comedy films has gone up manifold. To add to that, we need to understand the success of Siddique Lal and other directors who excelled in comedy is because the available content at the time was restricted cartoons, comic strips and certain stage productions. So the scope was huge. If you take the standard and performance of malayalam comedies in 90s, you can see the kind of standards set by the late 80s and early 90 gems produced here.
