Competence is all that matters, the acceptance you've been raised on in the last several decades is being misunderstood and taken to a dangerous extreme. That acceptance actually the experienced climbers waiting for you to demonstrate your ability (and desire) to learn, develop unconscious competence, and pass that knowledge on. Gravity is a honey badger, it don't give a f@*k about your your feelings or your identity, gravity only cares about whether you carelessly leave your thumb on a grigri cam, tie your knot poorly, run backwards to take in slack, wear flip-flops to the cliff or treat the outdoors/nature like a climbing gym. Climbing is far too dangerous to be treated like you're in a skate park with an ambulance in sight. Many people have picked this sport for the wrong reasons, and do not have the constitution or mind-set for learning the procedures to keep themselves and their friends safe. They are fantastic and insanely nice people, this is just the wrong sport! Physical ability (how hard you pull) has NOTHING to do with this opinion!
