They're re-implamenting the program in Orlando, most likely within the next few months, and the underwater viewing area is ready to go and will most likely be open this weekend or next. As for Tilikum, that would be awful! He needs the exercise and stimulation, and they DID take him out for over a year! Yes, taking the trainers out of the water was rash, but it was also because OSHA forced them to. They are now trying to see if they can start re-training to have the trainers in the water again.
Twice in the past my family and I went to DWS at Sea World (our last was in 2005) but the killer whale didn't do this much. He just lingered in the water but either way I admired the line in your description "Pretty much the whole interaction part of our DWS session". Now I'd like to recommend a book to all of you that you'll find on either the amazon.com or barnesandnoble websites. Death at Sea World by David Kirby. Read that then come back and watch this video again!
Well you have to take into account that the price includes unlimited food, which obviously the people on the other side don't get. It really depends on the dine, sometimes they send a whale over for the people on the other side and sometimes they don't. Sometimes the whales stay mostly next to the diners. It really depends. In Orlando (and San Antonio I think) the DWS is more "exclusive".
DWS looks much better (interaction part) then in orlando!!! clearly orlando has a better eating area and you can get an amazing look onto all the other tanks. for example you can get a great look at tili in his tank
You mean the one with the rake marks on the eye patch? That's Ikaika, but if you mean the way how Orki'd eye patch is shaped, yeah she actually does have a pretty unique shape to them
That line intrigued me because before booking the dinner I thought the experience would be more interactive instead of just eating and staring at one animal in the pool who was hardly doing anything. From what I saw in this video it looked like you got more for your money. Anyway did you read the entire book? Most of it focused not just on what happened to Brancheau but the nature of killer whales througout the world and history and the way we should treat them.
I did this years ago with my two children. In San Diego......one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I want to think they are happy but I'm afraid they would rather be out in the ocean..)=
In what way did you admire the line? I'm curious. DWS are a mixed bag, you get really good ones (like this) or average ones. It just depends on the whales, trainers, season etc Thanks for the recommendation, but I already own it and have had to abandon it due to the abysmal writing style which seeks to over-romanticise the stories involved. In particular Chapter 3, "Capture" which is a work of almost complete fiction in a supposed non-fiction book.
I love how other people can just watch the whole thing for free...is it worth paying $40 plus per person? I thought it's exclusive to diners willing to pay for that much money to dine with Shamu!
Oh, yes it sounds like you had a bad DWS if all you saw was a whale swimming round. You always get some form of "interaction" (read: mini show) but the amount of behaviours can vary. No, I got about 100 pages in before I completely lost interest. From what I'd read up to that point it was basically a Naomi Rose biography, which was very uninteresting. Perhaps I will give it another go after exams are over but I honestly can't see it changing my opinion of anything.
I loved this, thank you for uploading! Loved all the up close footage, especially of Orkid. She's so beautiful. You made my day.
I love the colours your getting here
Same here! I love how it's an oval instead of a triangular shape like Kasatka, Nakai, and the others have. I can't wait to see her again on Tuesday =)

excited for that film
omfg that was filmed on my birthday
That's my girl, miss orkid❤
Hahaha I loved the girl at 2:47 saying, "One... Two... WOW!" Lol it literally was two seconds. So funny :)
I laughed at Ike, poor kid. xD Orkid is so smart !

Lol That's what I thought when I first learned how to pronounce it! It's weird, but so unique I think :)

Ulises dorsal is so impressive, i think he is a mammal eater.
And wow they are very vocal!
Such majestic, regal beauties! Sooo wanna rub one!!! Thanks for this!!💖💖💖 Love their mischievous sass!🙃🙃

Thanks for clearing that up, i need some more practise xD
You mean the one with the rake marks on the eye patch? That's Ikaika, but if you mean the way how Orki'd eye patch is shaped, yeah she actually does have a pretty unique shape to them
I like the part where ulises spits the fish and it hits ikaika to try to get him to pay attention
I have done the dws twice I don't like the new glass up but whatever, her voice seems so blah to me lol but I love the video
Actually, orca eyes are blue to an ice grey color.
I never been to the dine with shamu
Orkid and Ike would be a great couple.
From what I've heard they pronounce it differently here than how they used to in Orlando. I have no idea how to pronounce it, I just call him Ike :P
This is SeaWorld San Diego, a park that is not affiliated with the Disney Company :)
You should see it!
wow look at that scratch on Ike's face. Kasatka must really be pounding on him.
He means the behaviour where they "throw" the fish at each other. If you look carefully you can see Ikaika's eye. No need to be so rude.
Dolphintrainer101 is right, it is "breach" the word "breech" is completely different..
That one I haven't seen. So I can't comment.
Ulises comes from a fish eating population :)

They dont seem to be as bubbly as the trainers in Orlando
"breach" :)

me too! :)
I love to dine with shamu but it's too expensive:(
Isn't pronounced ee-ky-kah? they say it wierd. Anyways this is a great video!

Oof, Ike had some bad rakes in this one...
you should see the size of wild male orcas. they are far more impressive as they are 6ft+ and straight(:
I don't know who you're talking to/refering to but there is no need to be rude.
I love killer whales!!!
Who gave Ike that nasty rake on his eye patch?

disney
Watch for Gabriela Cowperthwaite's film about SeaWorld's Tilikum coming to movie theaters and to CNN Summer 2013. It's called "Blackfish."
