The trick to open the boxes in the future first, then go to before you open it after you opened it, is so subtle. But it does so much to establish Chrono Trigger's time travel as better than most time travel fiction. The multiverse timeline approach that other time travel media use, including Chrono Cross, is the easy way out; Because you don't have to deal with the "butterfly effect" style consequences. But here, they made an effort to have a linear timeline that stays consistent. that is way harder to write than a multiverse and very fascinating. You can see it in other parts of the game such as the Sun Stone sidequest, when it shows that Marle's existence is tied to Leene's survival, and how the Black Omen can be re-entered from the past.
I love how Chrono Trigger deals with time travel! I'm generally not a huge fan of time travel stories as writers tend to use it to bring back dead characters, or as a cheat to get out of a situation, or is otherwise not very engaging. Chrono Trigger does time travel very well, and it feels like messing with the past has an actual impact on the future. Beating the final boss from different timelines, and during different times in the story/game itself, changes how the final cutscenes play out, which is really cool! I always loved that!
You have to wear 1. Red Mail/Vest when you fight the Son of Sun 2. Black Mail/Vest when you fight Mother Brain / Retinite 3. White Mail/Vest when you fight Nu Spekkio 4. Blue Mail/Vest when you fight Queen Zeal
To add to the ABOVE on the DS remake the 3 POST game dungeons require the Red White and Blue mail (Plate armors)/Vests equipped as well the boss for ending 13 starts with a full party Shadow attack but also uses Lavos' single Target Heavenly Peel Lightning spell so I'd rather absorb Lightning damage for that 13th ending boss on the DS remake not its full party Shadow spell.
As far as I remember, when it comes to opening the Sealed Chests, you may need to remember the following things. 1: Go to the Sealed Chest in the Past first 2: When asked to open the Sealed Chest say no 3: Open The Sealed Chest in the Present after choosing not to open the Sealed Chest in the Past

How do you get Super Gato to appear at the Millenial Fair so you can fight him and get that fantastic item for defeating him? At the fair you fight Luccs's robot Gato for silver points. After you defeat him he gives you 15 silver points and asks you "Now wasn't that fun?" There is supposed to be a way to get him to follow that with a yes or no answer. If you answer no then Gato replies then you can fight my big brother and another robot comes out of the tent in the upper right hand corner. This Super Gato has a ton of hit points and you don't have the ability to beat him at this point in the game. But he says beat me and I will give you the warp ring. This ring allows you to warp to different areas of the game and access a secret area not in the usual game. To get Gato to give you the yes or no answer after you defeat him you have to speak to the guy just before you come into his area, the guy who mentions you can fight Lucca's robot for silver points, speak to him 16 times then go to the guy who exchanges 50 gold for 10 silver points and do that exchange 16 times. So make sure you have the max 200 silver points because after you do the silver exchange 16 times you have 40 silver points left. Take the 40 silver points and go to tent of horrors and bet your 40 silver points on the mimicking game. You have to do it perfect then instead of getting a clone for a reward the guy says fight Gato. Go back and fight Gato and when you defeat him he gives you the yes or no selection after he asks you if you had fun. I have done all this but Gato gives you no yes or no answer. All this was in a Japanese Video game magazine when Chrono Trigger was released there. Maybe it only works on the Super Famicom version. But the magazine mentions there is a time limit on doing all this. and maybe I have not been able to do it all fast enough. Then there is the problem of beating Super Gato. If it is impossible because of the low level you are at in that point of the game then use PAR code to go up enough levels so you can beat Super Gato. I was also told that the warp ring item is a debug tool or item that the programmers used for this game. It does the same thing that the DrWarp does in Breath of Fire. It is a programers tool where if you select the warp ring you can enter indifferent 4 digit numbers to warp anywhere in the game just like in Breath of Fire. You can even enter a 4 digit number to warp back into the cities in Zeal even after it is destroyed. If you warp back into Enhasa after Zeal is destroyed if you talk to one of the characters she is supposed to say, "Get the F out of here!" Has anyone actually gotten the warp ring and can verify this?
I've never heard of this before. It may only be for Japanese carts for the SNES version, or may have been a rumor/fake/April Fool's joke. I couldn't find anything in regards to a Developer Tool or Warp Ring, but it could be real, I just can't find anything on it. Sorry! If you do find more info about this I'd love to know about it!
Poz159 -I have done this complicated process of events several times without Gato giving a yes or no answer and of course no Super Gato appears that you can fight and get this warp ring. While the DrWarp is an actual item I have gotten in Breath of Fire that allows you to enter in 4 digit numbers to warp any where in the game I don't know anyone who has gotten a warp ring in Chrono Trigger. I have even used Pro Action Replay codes that allow you to generate every item in the game and there is no warp ring item. Maybe this item exists in the Super Famicom version of the game. It would be possible to use Pro Action Replay item generating codes to find out.

Thanks for the video. But i dont get why peoples loves so much Gold studs over Prismspecs... I have Primspecs on my 3 characters. It power up 50% attack and magic damage. I can reach 5,5K damage with Crono's Luminaire, and almost the same with Magus's Darkmatter or 8K with Marle/Lucca Antipode 3. No ennemies can survive long with this :D The only boss who needs some special attention is final Spekkio :D
The prismspecs deal more damage per turn, but with the gold studs, it would take two turns to do more damage than the prism specs would do in one turn, while costing less than the prismspecs. I would say that the gold studs are better for longer battles or when going through a dungeon fighting normal enemies, while the prismspecs are better for quick battles where the extra damage determines whether you win in one turn or not, AND the prismspecs are probably better for boss battles overall. For me personally, I like the gold studs because of how much less mp it takes to do AoE damage and healing, and the damage you do with luminaire or other top AoE magic is still sufficient even without the prismspecs. HOWEVER, mp healing items in late game are cheap and probably easy to get anyways, so the gold specs are not as needed due to that, so I guess the gold studs are better early-ish game, until you can obtain mp healing items easily, in which the prismspecs are better in that case. There is no wrong option really, as it all comes down to personal preference in addition to the situation. TL:DR - i believe the gold studs are better in terms of DPS, but prismspecs are better for quick battles that only need one turn to beat, until you can get an endless supply of mp healing items easily, in which the prismspecs are better overall. My math could be wrong though.

*Possible Minor Spoilers* All of the mysterious chests and doors cannot be opened until you reach Zeal near the middle of the game. After you follow Lavos when he first reaches earth you will arrive in zeal through the gate. You will have some other things to do first, but basically find your way to the main castle first. Go off to the right room and listen in on Schala and Janus talking and schala will called by her mother. Follow her to the middle walkway and she will use the pendant to open a mysterious door. Go to the mammon machine on the left hand side of the walkway and present it with Marle's pendant, strangely enough this is Schala's 13000 year old pendant that is still good. TADA!!! Charged pendant. Now you can open all chests and doors with it. Here is a list of where everything is. - This is taken from "Slasher424242" from Gamefaqs.com and is their answer entirely, I am just relaying the info to you. I hope this helps!
You have to charge the Pendant while in the Zeal Palace. In one of the side rooms there should be a side room with a machine that emits a red glow. I think you have to talk to one of the ladies there in order for that machine to charge the pendent when you press A on it.

The game might mention how to upgrade the equipment in Zeal, possibly reading one of the books or talking to an NPC, I'm not sure. I would imagine that the game would mention it somewhere. Games back then were definitely more sneaky about secrets and whatnot like this, I can understand the frustration with it.
I believe you need to have Marle in the party, then the guard will let you through. If you have marle in the party and it still doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to figure out another possibility.
You need MARLE in the party since the Red Mail IS in the Guardia Castle 1000 AD chest for a 2nd red mail fight the Giant's Claw 600 AD boss and STEAL that one off of it BEFORE fighting Sun of Son. But between the SAFE Helm and Swallow Sword sealed chest always chose the Safe Helm the Swallow chest for Crono is pretty much WORTHLESS as soon as you OPEN IT before going to Mt Woe itself.
Yeah I can hear the resemblance there; it's probably partially due to the microphone quality at the time. Though, my voice has a higher pitch to it than many other men haha. As long as people enjoy my voice, I'll be satisfied with how it is.
NO the Swallow Sword over the SAFE Helm is worthless in fact you'll likely REPLACE the Swallow on Mt Woe which is why the Swallow sealed chest is completely USELESS AS SOON AS YOU GET it.
The secrets are the treasures that are optional and obtainable only after doing a series of sidequesting to obtain them. New players don't know what the treasure is, and technically the main characters don't either, so it's a secret to them what the treasure is.
Poz159 the real secret is the chest that give you the option to say no. The trick is if you attempt to open them in the past and you say no when you open it in the present day you'll get better equipment. I'm pretty sure you knew that but I didn't when I played this when I was a kid

i have had every item in this game via cheat device. there is no warp ring. fike this under the same heading as saving aeris or revive general leo.

When in the game does it ever mention how you can upgraded sealed chests? Why would I ever suspect that is a mechanic, I feel robbed.

The swallow is incredible with that extra speed.
But the swallow II has no speed increase. Weird
