Turtle Bay for sure! As you say, freshly cooked chicken, as opposed to reheated, so stayed moist. The reason for "rice & peas" is because the original ingredient added to the rice was Gungo Peas, a round brown pea, a little sour tasting, you can buy it in a can. I only tried once and decided red kidney beans or chick peas tastes better. The creamy taste is because coconut milk is added. 😊
That would explain it
traditional Jamaican Rice and Peas recipe gets a woodsy and fruity flavor from allspice berries, thyme, and Scotch bonnet pepper.
This traditional Caribbean rice and beans recipe from Costa Rica combines red beans, white rice, coconut milk, and habanero peppers for a unique and tasty main
My (West Indian) wife screamed when she saw how much pepper sauce you put on your plate, and then when you dipped your chicken in it… 😂😂😂
Love your videos - Delicious!
The sauce was very spicy lol
I worked for Hungry Horse many years ago, and also worked for the brewery as a landlord, the chicken comes in frozen pre cooked, it is then microwaved, hence so dry.. chicken should be defrosted over 48 hours in a fridge and shallow fried...
Have to go with Turtle Bay. Chicken looked decent enough looking jerk style. Rice looked good, though it looked like Basmati rice they used. Many beans in Jamaica are called peas like pigeon peas and you also have black eyed peas which go with rice sides. That bottled yellow sauce is like a Calypso sauce and is quite hot. Usually, good jerk chicken doesn't require any additional sauce as the marinade does it good enough on its own to eat.
Turtle Bay for me too mate thanks for another great video mate 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hi From a very warm Anaheim, Calif! I'm "dining with you". Taking a lunch break from my day, shopping at Downtown Disney. (Between Disneyland and Disney's Calif Adventure) Watching you on my phone for a change. Enchiladas Suiza at Tortilla Jo's for me.
Oh dear, that first meal 🤦♀️. If you had to endure a dry thigh, the rest of that chicken had to be drier than plywood! Too bad because, on first glance, it looked promising.
Sounds like a great lunch!
Turtle bay looked amazing. I’m going to give that a go soon. Take care my friend
Its worth a try for sure
There was something very appealing about how the steam came off the second meal. It just made it look fresher than the first meal.
It definitely tasted fresher and had the flavours too
Beginning in the 19th century, Costa Rica started to boost its in-country transportation through the construction of a railroad from the port of Limon on the Caribbean side to the capital city of San Jose.
Workers on this railroad were mostly indigenous Costa Ricans (Talamancans) and Jamaican immigrants. Of course, they were served gallo pinto when they arrived (also known as “spotted rooster”)- a combination of red (kidney) beans, white rice, and Salsa Lizano.
Peas are beans [and beans are peas]. They are all from the seed family Fabaceae.
Turtle bay, looks delicious. 10/10 from me.🌹
It was so good!
I can’t disagree with anything you said about these meals. To be fair, visually I thought hungry horse looked more appealing and substantial. Of course then the taste test. As usual you got it perfectly. Great review as usual. 👍
Two chicken dinners in one day? The second one looked really good you looked like you really enjoyed it!
It was! Very tasty
Caribbean cuisine is the most flavoursome cuisine in the world. My favourite cuisine by far. I've never had a Caribbean dish that I didn't like.
Turtle Bay food looked much better, but Hungry Horse plate didn't look too bad.
Great video,E.I.E 👍🏻.
Its tasty food!
@@everydayimeating3407 indeed.
Damn. I could use that Hungry Horse chicken as sandpaper.
I nearly ordered that two weeks ago as well, I'm glad I didn't.
Got me a little worried though because the next thing on my list to try is the Tandoori Chicken Sizzler.
Hello EIE,
Fantastic video, thank you. Hungry Horse sounds bland, no flavor. Turtle Bay looked and sounded great from your description. That's the one for me. Sharing is good 😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wise choice on the ginger beer. Amazing. 😁
It was really nice 😋
I’ll go with Turtlebay for sure ! It looks to be the real deal.
🍗🕶️☕️
✌🏻🧑🏻🦱✌🏻
It was the real deal for sure
Great video, good to see you trying something a little different. I'll have to visit Turtle Bay, it looks really good and good value. The quality of food at the Hungry Horse came as no great surprise to me.
Its good food in there!
The second one was better, nice option of the two sauces to help spice it up.... Neither looked very exciting or colourful tho..... Expensive too 😮
thanks for the review
No problem!
Chicken breast is a food that is easy to over cook. A lot of food you can take your attention away from and it will be perfectly fine. But if you do that with chicken breasts you'll get chicken flavored cardboard.
Good on the second place for having tasty rice. Rice takes spice very well, so there isn't any excuse to have bland rice. Unless you've got an upset stomach of course!
The rice was surprisingly very very nice
Turtle Bay anytime. You can't beat restaurant quality.
Its was great!
Thanks for a great vlog. Not sure which one I would choose. xx
Hello You! Cripes. Hungry horse looked a bit of a let down. From what you said I'd very much agree Turtle Bay wins easy!
In Jamaica they call red kidney beans peas
The hungry horse meal, dry chicken which will probably have been overcooked, the rice looked a little on the dry side too, however the chicken wings looked ok. Turtle Bay Jerk Chicken Meal looked lovely, Chicken looked very nice, the Rice perfect, little more coleslaw needed though. Wow! the Ginger Beer looked so refreshing! I love this & it's a lovely drink to have especially on warm summer days!! Excellent review as always, I love watching! Thank you for sharing, take care 💜
The ginger beer was great to have with this meal!
If this is your first taste of jerk chicken and rice and peas, please remove it from your taste buds! For a start that portion of coleslaw from Turtle Bay was disgusting! It’s vegetables, even with the price of produce now it’s still cheap to make. The first one was a joke, they should be ashamed of themselves. The second one was passable because the rice looked, and you said tasted good. The chicken looks better than the first one anyway (I’ve not watched the whole video yet 😂) for my eyes it looks over seasoned, too salty I’m guessing. But that ‘portion’ of coleslaw was taking the mickey! I do love your videos 👍🏽 you are so polite 😁
We love your vlogs and we slways watch them in our kitchen. Maybe you should come to Germany and try our specialties here. Your Nr1 Fans from Hamburg Germany
I will have to visit!
Most of that on the HH meal would be pre prepared frozen stuff re heated in a microwave or out of a jar

Been binge watching ur vids the past few days! One of my favourite channels for sure now. Wish you’d come to Manchester and try a challenge or food review here
I have done a 24hours challenge in Manchester lol check it out and let me know if I visited the right places
I think both are a little expensive at £17. My local pub does a 3 meat roast dinner for £15.
I need to try it out
been to turtle bay several times always good food so its a no brainer for me
Its goof food in there
❤ Turtle Bay
That chicken was cooked to death.
Makes me think it was cooked the day before, 2 days before & keeping within health guidelines (unless things have changed since I last worked in restaurants).
It's been warmed up by the kitchen and Jerk sauce was applied strategically.
The 2nd piece of Jerk chicken - smeared, then grilled.
No evidence of a kitchen staff member (cannot use the word chef) - hence it's appearance of a 'road-kill' chicken.
If I was to check with an 'aunty' to ask if this Jerk was good?
It would be in the bin & some teeth sucking would be heard - big time.
Do you know if any of the eateries you frequent prepare the food in advance as they do in Wetherspoons? I have that information on good authority.
I do think that some of the items are bagged in portion size and some are cooked in bag in a water bath or were in the past to veg.
If you take it many of the meals in supermarkets like curries are just the boxed version cooked and put on a plate.
I would expect for the price increase and the some what smaller menu that Turtle bay may do the chicken in the same way as KFC do . in the place.
Turtle bay 💯 . Great comparison though.
Thanks for watching!
Normaly you put grean peas in it. It comes originaly from India
I did not know that!
Turtle bay
I agree!
10:36 Blimey, did they grill that chicken with a flamethrower?😣😥Was surprised it didn't have a burnt taste to it.
Definitely Turtle Bay. I knew the chicken from the first place was going to be as dry as a bucket of sand as soon as you cut into it.
It was some dry chicken!
Turtle Bay food looked lovely definitely the best one hungry horse didn't look too bad
The turtle bay food was so tasty 😋
Turtle bay looked the best by far 😊
It tasted the best too! 😋
Jamaicans call red kidney beans peas , hence rice and peas.
Turtle Bay all day long 👍
That explains the name!
why does the Hungry horse look like it was done and left under a heat lamp for 5 minutes. there is no shine to the chicken and the wings sauce just looks set.
I have never seem a Turtle bay.
still paying £17 for just a chicken half. does seem a bit much there is nothing on that plate you can not do your self for a fraction of the cost.
Turtle Bay takes it for me
Me too 😀
Great video. And yes that chicken looked more than dry.
But what is it with the younger generations saying ‘anyways’. I only ever heard it in the USA. There is NO plural of ‘anyway’
Anyways, thanks for watching 😀
@@everydayimeating3407 🤣
Apart from the rice on the 2nd one, I thought both meals looked very average. I personally wouldn't order those dishes from those restaurants.
The chicken wasn't a little dry it was very dry! But personally for a meal like that I actually like the chicken a little dry as it makes it meatier especially the breast meat.
I cannot believe that Hungry Horse chicken!! I have NEVER seen chicken that dry 🤣🤣🤣 Did they cook it in a dehumidifier?
It might just be the driest chicken I've ever had
The trouble is all that fancy decor must cost? The food suffers ie small portions 😮
The coleslaw at Turtle Bay, the way it's presented is a garnse not a side. I would be mad.
It was a very small portion
£16--£17
✌🏻🧑🏻🦱✌🏻
lol i should of read the bottle....
Turtle Bay looked way better.
I would be very apologetic and polite, but would 100% send thhat first meal back. No way am i paying £16 for what you were given, id be ashamed to send that out to a guest.
Both look bad and too expensive 😭 the turtle bay coleslaw looked good though!
Its a lot of money to eat out these days!
You must a fortune on these vids 😅
Caribbean food is probably the most basic andworst in the world so not surprised
Chicken looks so dry that you could exfoliate your skin with it.
Also why is an open kitchen so good? I would prefer to enjoy my meal without feeling bad that there's a bunch of line cooks slaving away right nrxt to me. Would prefer to enjoy my food without guilt thanks.
Doesn’t look like pigeon peas I don’t know what those peas are, but maybe beans. The first chicken was way too dry not too tasty.😮 turtle Bay not good rice and pigeon peas no plantain no cabbage jerk chicken looks OK but where is the oxtails?
That first one looked thrown together with uncle Ben rice 👎
The information out there is that charred food is carsinogenic, just saying!!!!
Nothing authentic about that HH plate, I'm an old white Northern bloke and I cook better Caribbean than trying to pass off microwave Uncle Ben's and pouring some reggae reggae sauce on some chicken 😂😂
Turtle Bay gets a bad rep and being a chain rightly so, there are dozens of actual Caribbean places in Manchester and everyone is subtly different and that's the essence of good food.
Hungry horse looked the worst, chicken looked super dry, turtle bay won this by a country mile
A national chain with places all over country is NEVER the place to go . Please try local Independent places who cook for you , not their shareholders .
I think the point in that is people watch from all over the country
He tried places that everyone can try, that's the whole point of the channel
Dude, every time you hit these places there's no one there. You need to get a video in when there's more of an atmosphere happening.
I try not to film the people or usually get there really early so theres no people lol
@@everydayimeating3407 For the audience it always helps when you get a sound or visual of the atmosphere of the place you’re hitting up. Hope this helps it’s just friendly advice and will generate more views and subs. Best of luck 👍🏼
@@everydayimeating3407 follow up on my original comment, you certainly need a busier atmosphere to get things moving.
Hungry horse looked pretty disgusting
That's an awful meal should have asked for your money back.
The hungry horse meal looked awful and isn't jerk chicken and that's not rice and peas . I wouldn't eat that garbage
