- Auston Matthews scored the third-period go-ahead goal and William Nylander chipped in three points as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 to take a 3-2 lead in their first-round series.

Games like this can change a whole team's mentality for the rest of the playoffs. I'm hoping this lit some sort of fuse for the Leafs

I went from being very angry after the 2-0 Tampa lead to almost jumping through the ceiling when Matthews scored the game winning goal. This Leafs team is going to give me a heart attack one day, lol.

What a comeback win from the boys, forcing the back to back cup winners to the brink of elimination! Soup had a great rebound game as well!
They might actually push threw this round if Tampa comes flat game 6 or 7 but the sloppiness is gunna bite them in the ass sooner or later so many penalties and so many turnovers it's just impossible to win playoff series like that

My father who was a die hard Habs fan ( unfortunately he passed a couple months ago ) told me last year when you guys beat us in the 1st round and I quote "don't worry Ian they'll be hoisting the Cup within the next 1 or 2 years " . If they pull this series off I think his prediction will hold true based on the confidence it'll give them .

That Nylander PING was an absolute beauty of a goal. Wow, and was not expecting it made all the more amazing. Matthews was on fire. He needs to show the hockey world his MVP mode in the playoffs like he brought here.

Leafs are not getting anywhere near that cup. FLO or WAS is next. Bolts are fast, but they don’t play a physical game, and the D is asleep this year. Let’s see how they do against a team that’s not only fast and skilled, but has a good D game, and one that’s brutal on the body.

Love it, I’ve caught their double header in Florida a few years ago, right before the pandemic, Leafs fans took over both their rinks and we got two wins that week

All the big names showed up exactly how we unreasonably expect them to every game, and in the second half of that game you hardly noticed maroon and perry gooning it up after the whistle trying to bait our guys into a penalty. Fantastic come back

Omg that was a stressful first 2 periods. Tavares assist i think was the turning point which was exceptional stock handling.

They're not "defending" champs. This is not like the UFC, where you must defend your title and lose it the minute you lose another fight. It's a clean slate every year. Everybody in the playoffs (except the Predators now) has a chance to win the cup - including Tampa. They're not defending anything.

On the goal by Auston, the awareness and skill of Bunting to quickly turn and get that soft pass across to Marner, Hymann wouldn't have been able to make that play. Dubas is a genius, the moves he's made are so underrated.

Game of the year overall. Especially the second half of the game. Halfway through the 2nd period and on to the end both teams were incredible.
Most important Leafs win in my 51+ years. That was the kind of game they have previously lost. To do it against the 2-time Champs is impressive. They have not been intimidated by Tampa.

What a hockey game! Reminds me of the Caps vs. Pens 2nd round series in 2017 when it was clear they were the two best teams in the league. In my opinion, the Caps were better than the Pens in 2017 and The Pens were better than the Caps in 2018, yet each team found a way to win a series against a better team and went on to win The Cup. Gritty win by the Leafs, they were down and continued playing their game. Tavares' dangles were incredible, Nylander made incredible net drives knowing he was going to get crushed and Marner's pass off Vasilevsky's pads to Matthews was a beauty. Best hockey game I've seen in years.

Great win!! When Tampa got the 2 early goals, it almost looked like a repeat of the last game. But Toronto got 3 consecutive goals, and I loved the celebration by Austin Matthews!!
But then McDonaugh got the equalizer, and Toronto got the go ahead goal and they hang on for a 4-3 win!!
after the 2nd lightning goal i turned the game off and just checked the score from time to time. decided to watch the 3rd period and what a period that was. please win it in 6, Leafs because I won't be able to take a game 7
