Throw handfulls of Type S mortar at the block walls to make irregular ledges and bumps then moss shake it. Tarp the plastic walls first. OoooR, use thinset to take some of that riprap and stick it to the walls. Cheap easy puzzle fun for Tiffany. 100% bentonite clay cat litter mixed with compost makes a sticky paste that moss will grow on and is moldable for rock crevices. Long term the sphagnum is going to disappear. I have not seen that dried stuff come back, but it does make a good starter medium for new mosses. Are you getting java moss for the rim of the aquarium? I think it should spread out if you make it rain as much as the rainforest.

If you stuck the panel to the wall and then take a wire brush drill attachment to it, it takes half the time. Save the little board dust to sprinkle into cracks and crevices
