- Czechia and Sweden faced off in the first semi-final of the IIHF World Junior Championship. The winner would challenge either Team Canada or Team USA in the final.

Always sucks when your team gets beaten but atleast we lost to the Czechs and that softens the blow. Always loved Czech hockey, as a kid when growing up id pretend to be Jaromir Jagr while playing hockey or land hockey! Rooting for you in the finals!

As a Canadian I was hoping for the Swedes to win, seeing as we struggled with the Czechs and dominated our game with Sweden. It’s not the shots you take but the goals you score that really count in the end. Hats off to Czechia for their cool heads and persevering efforts to cinch their gold medal opportunity with not one but _two_ last-minute beauties! The stiff competition they offer will make for an incredible championship game. Well done!

As a Swede this hurts sooo much. It's almost unbelievable but hats of to Czeckia.its run to see them and Slovakia back with us, Finland, the US, Canada and Russia again.

This is why hockey is such a great spectator sport. It's so often down to the wire, it doesn't get any more suspenseful as that.

Reminded me of 2010 Men Semi Finals, that was intense one....the goal was voted as one of the best moments in Czech(even Czechoslovakian) ice hockey history...RIP Rachůnek and others

Czechia's 2023 team is damn good. The final can go both ways, I'll be happy with both. Czech hockey much respected, from Canada. This is the beauty of the juniors U20, you never know how the teams are annually. Hope they have a nice and clean game.

I am from Russia and I am so glad to see, how Czechia's improved their hockey play. I've always supported them except russian team and the current situation is great. Yeah, Czechia has always been one of the strongest European countries in hockey, but this year makes me feel so happy. I really hope they will win this championship, they have really good chances

I was at this game and out of the three games I watched in person this is easily my favourite game not only in person but of the tournament that I have watched. super close looked like we may not have overtime next then boom goal and I will be honest, I have never heard a place no louder for a non Canada game then I did in that game when the tiring goal was scored the whole Scotiabank center Just exploded and seating in the corner near the Sweden net was a great spot to see all the goals including the ot winner.
I feel really sorry for swedish goalie. Poor guy was crying at the end. Yet he was such a badass the whole time. What a talented player.
So happy my team drafted Jiri Kulich he’s got a bright future for my Sabres ⚔️
Rosen and Ostlund on the Swedes team also Sabres prospects did well too.

Very good work. The Czechs should have played at least 3 power plays, for those hockey sticks in the face. The referee was bad because they couldn't decide the match IMHO :-) . We have to beat Canada!
Neskutečný turnaj a především super práce hlavního kouče, výrazně kvalitnějších beků než v minulých turnajích této věkové kategorie a včera především Suchánka. Samozřejmě klobouk dolů před celým týmem, že to navzdory nepřízni sudích a rychle ubíhajícímu času v závěru nezabalil. Morální sílu prokázal tento tým neuvěřitelnou. Prodloužení jde hlavně za Suchánkem, co on pochytal se dá srovnávat s Haškem v Naganu. Medaile je po 18 letech jistá, paráda!!!

You played better but the refs and their double standards pissed me off. After 2 periods I walked out and didn't watch. I don't care if they don't call light fouls, but high stick play and hooking? Twice the Swedes got a stick in the face of a Czech player without penalty.
Was really hoping for my team Sweden to win.. But oh well... Maybe next year. Now go for the gold Czechia! I will cheer for you in the final 🙂
For me the biggest HERO of the match was definitely Suchánek, the goalkeeper .. if his form stays he has bright future

Its going to be a great game. Canada thought theyd walk through the Czechs and tried to showboat alot they probably wont make that mistake again they now know the Czechs are a threat. We will see a focused Canada and a bunch of hungry Czechs

@@JunkBondTrader we already have but the question is if we are able to do it again. I think above all it depends whether Canada decides to play like a team or like a bunch of great individualities. In the former case it will be hard to beat Canada, the latter happened in the group stage.

As a Sabres fan that overtime was pretty awesome, Rosen almost scores, Ostlund almost scores, then Kulich wins it on the other end, The Sabres got Lots of talent incoming ⚔️ 🐐

Czech goalie has 4 assists on this tournament btw, which is insane. Let's fight it out with Canada for Gold medal tomorrow! Češi, do toho!
Just like Slovakia the Swedish goalie played amazing but unfortunately came up short. Awesome hockey this year!
There were just a few remarkable moments of the goalie otherwise hat off to defenders. The point of our struggles was a little space to get into chances.

The Czechs spent all their energy on the tying goal, so the Swedes had more power in OT, however the game and display of the Czech team was a bit better after all. Deserved win

This has similar vibe to 2010 World cup semi finals where Czechs tied with Sweden thanks to a goal just 8 seconds before the end of 3rd period and then ultimately winning the semifinals.

While we knew it and tried to fend your last push off, you showed the world that in ice hockey a few minutes is loads of time to catch up. An extremely fun game to watch, and from our Swedish side it was fun to see our team start growing into their potential. But, with the results in, we’ll just have to wish you the best of luck in the finals, Czechia! Give ‘em hell, to say something cliché, and have fun!
As someone else mentioned, your hockey is often fun to watch with the quick turn arounds and counter attacks. Hope your young ones continue to develop that classic Czech style for the final. You have a good team and some very good individuals and an experienced coach to cheer on.

Oh gosh, Glad I missed the game and watched only the highlights. I'd have died of heart attack. Anyway, this reminds me of the senior WC 2010 semifinal. Also Sweden, also a goal in the last minute of regular time, and eventually Czech victory in shootout...It is good to see Czech national team playing an equal game with Canada, Sweden and Finland again. P.S.: I wish you Swedes the best in the next match!

This team is taking the Czech media by storm, I remember when Czech juniors were pretty much mocked for even trying, usually finishing 7-8th at best. I'm proud to be Czech during these moments, stoked for the finals aswell
