    Back in the 70's my parents took me there when I was a child. Although too young then to understand the entire concept and history of the prison, I do still remember it clearly. I recognize so much of this vlog through photos that I still have. Mom and dad are long gone now, but this brought back memories of a beautiful day with them. Thanks for taking me back Jordan.

      So interesting, I was going to comment to say almost the exact same thing, so I instead decided to reply to your relatable comment, except I went around the late 90s or early 2000s if I’m correct. I was around 10 years old. I found it incredibly interesting and still to this day find crime and punishment history very interesting. My parents got us a guided tour so it was a bit different but definitely more informative. I still to this day watch videos of abandoned prisons and it all just brings me back to my first experience.

      I wasn't nearly as creeped out at Alcatraz as I was at Missouri State Penitentiary. I could physically feel the negativity there. The only other time I felt something like that was at the concentration camp at Dachau.

    • @judddavis3548
      @judddavis3548 4 роки тому +14

      Places can certainly hold energy as you say. There is a little tiny town in Arizona called "Jerome". It is made up of just 2 or 3 little streets slashed into a mountainside. It started out as a mining town for gold, copper, etc in the 1800s. ANYWAY ( lol) I drove through there one night at about 2 am and I felt the most evil energy I have ever felt. I had a vision of miners being stuck underground and left there. I searched the archives and could not find any accidents or anything though, It was quite intense. I am still talking about it 30 years later.

    • @MMorbid
      @MMorbid 4 роки тому +7

      @@judddavis3548 I am sure there were accidents. I grew up in Bonne Terre, Missouri over the world's largest man made cavern, a massive flooded lead mine abandoned in the 1960's by the St. Joe Lead Company. The local historical society interviewed a long time employee, who at the time was well into his 90s. I asked him about mining accidents and the story that perhaps the company tried to cover them up (after closure they were seen dumping records into the abandoned mine.) He told us they weren't hiding anything, they simply saw no value to the records (as an archivist by trade, I recoil at that now.) He said every accident that occurred went across his desk and he remembered every one. But "officially" there is no record of any of them. Long story short, I'm guessing that is probably the case here too. Jerome had a pretty famous strike in 1916. I knew the name of the town sounded familiar. There were lots of strikes in 1916 and 1917 (including one in Bonne Terre, though that one had serious anti-immigrant motives) and safety and accidents (and the fact that companies didn't give a crap if you died) was often one of the reasons for strikes.

    Very interesting and informative vlog! You really opened my eyes to Alcatraz's history. I think we've all seen the movies about Alcatraz, but this was excellent. You get the pervasive feeling of loneliness and desperation of the prisoners and even the guards that worked there. No wonder they uprised and attempted to escape. You can feel those feelings in Alcatraz now, but imagine what it was like to live there! Yikes, it certainly earned its nickname "the rock". I'll never get the opportunity to go myself, so I am really glad you went. No one narrates a story like you do Jordan! You just really always find a way to make it seem like we are right in the place your narrating about! That my friend is a true gift! Not every one can make others feel that way. Thank you for another wonderful trip!!! ~ Jill Gross

    That was very interesting, Jordan. I only went once in 1977, we had our Junior High School graduation trip was to San Francisco & we went to Alcatraz. We had group tours & it was so interesting, you were sure knowledgeable, must have studied a lot!!! 🌼

    Jordan…As usual, an amazing vlog! I see that you don't plan to do any more old Hollywood vlogs. I hope that doesn't mean that you're cutting back on vlogging. You provide so much information about the locations that you visit and I'm certain that the research you do takes a lot of time but, I and many others are loyal fans of your work and don't want to see it end! Thank you!

    Many, many years ago I vacationed in San Francisco and visited Alcatraz. It was an erry feeling , lot of unsettling spirits and people did not want to continue on the tour. Never so glad to leave that place.

    This was a great tour that you’ve given I have watched others none came close to yours and your soft voice whispering was perfect and you were by yourself when you were showing specific things which made it more Interesting.

    I went through San Fran on my way to Disneyland with my friend and his parents. We had a limited time there and we missed the sailing to Alcatraz. Thanks for the tour.

    This was so cool. I find the history of this place so intriguing. Didn’t realise how true the actual escape scenario was to the film Escape From Alcatraz and it turns out the film was pretty accurate. Great vlog Jordan 👍🏻
