World's 1st Manual C8 Corvette Drift Car - ARE Dry Sump System & Weddle 5-Speed Transaxle - Ep. 5

- In this episode, we shift our focus on building out the dry-sump system. Since Gary from ARE has helped so much with the dry-sump system in the C6 Corvette, it was a no-brainer to contact him for support on this build. Once we get everything mocked up and placed, it's time to put the LS back in to work on plumbing the lines.
After that, we dive into one of the most important parts of this build, the transaxle! We opted for a Weddle 5-speed sequential transaxle, which should hopefully hold all of the power and clutch-kicking we plan on doing!
Big thanks to everyone for following along as my team and I transform this flood damaged C8 Corvette into a full Formula Drift spec drift car!

This will go down in history, mark my words
I freakin hope so!
Words marked ✅
I am so stoked to see this thing come to life!!
I am 100% here for this!! Please bring this to LS Fest even if it isn’t complete yet.
Just to sit pretty 😅
Love this build! “Don’t scratch it” Proceeds to not cover it with tape, roll it around a table and bang it around the engine bay. Car guy. Those are e-torx bolts, they take higher torque and don’t round off as easily
Awesome progress! Love watching it all come together! Also very much enjoying the information details in things, keep it coming!
I’m trying to include as many details as possible!
Man this is going to be so sick! I can't wait to see it shredding
6:55 You need female e-Torx set
Shows his lack of working on german cars

Came here to say this!
Hammer and grinder
Sounds like the transaxle should be able to handle the shock, I like how it doesn’t go that far past the subframe
It’s rightttttt there haha
We are trying to push the engine as far forward as possible
@@mattfield777 the good ol compromise of how far can you move it forward before it becomes not as serviceable. Would definitely help weight distribution and axle angles
Those funky head bolts do have a special socket.... snap on sells it it's also used to remove the valve body bolts in the 6-8 speed transmissions
I’m genuinely curious on how your going to protect the trans from a wall hit!
I’ve been wonder shot the gearbox.. are you going to be able to change gear sets like a winters?
P-Ayr get this man a damn plastic ls block.
Loving the progress boys!
This thing is epic. My favorite series on UA-cam rn
Cut that crossmember yeah!
Love this. For your scavenge line clearance, you could use an ORB hose end which would net you some more clearance.
And if Chris is designing a full suspension package, you could adjust the rear axle centerline rearward to help your axle angle and would also help your weight bias. I think it would be a small enough amount of a rearward shift to not be super noticeable against the wheel arch and probably wouldn’t require anything crazy other than the forward rod ends being extended.
Can i buy the old suff
this is blowing my mind
Them are EP sockets
This car is going to be one of the coolest things around, easily the best thing anyone has done with a C8. I'm going to be at FD SLC next month, I'm expecting to watch a Matt Field win, so make sure you send it 😂
Sand car dudes are stoked on this lol. Idk though, its stout for sure but you guys abuse things like no other
Nicely done 👍
Matt would ls swap a corvette
Hell freakin yea!
I looked that trans up a few weeks ago when I saw what you’re up to. That trans is about $20k!
3rd of the price of the c6 drift tranny?
Is that still a quick change diff?
It is not
@mattfield777 would that even be possible?
Seems like that trans placement would be easy enough to pull out of the car though
Matt this new car is going to be bonkers maybe we will see it at goodwood or in Ireland some time
That is a dream of mine!!!
Corvette lets go!!!
i hate to be that guy but Our**** not Are
ARE is the brand...

Great job!
This build is awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you like it!
This is sick! cant wait to see you win a fd championship in that car. hope it come sooner then 2025. You were rippin in Seattle Just got a little to greedy in outside zone 4 keep the work cant wait for Utah !!!
Instead of talking if he directly installed both things it would have been 2 min vid
Good thing you can fast forward
So excited for this build! Good luck at the Bristol 1000 in a few weeks!
