Chicken Coop Build: Mortise & Tenon (4x4) Walls vs. Sandwiched Walls

  • Matt explains the difference between mortise & tenon walls and sandwiched walls. These two types of walls are commonly seen on our custom chicken coops that are 10 foot wide or larger.
    It gives a beefier look to the coop.
    Mortise and tenon joinery is an ancient joinery that is extremely strong. It's a true woodworker's joint. But it is labor intensive and therefore expensive.
    We get the same look from our sandwiched walls, which is just like it sounds, we take two 2x4 posts and sandwich the hardware cloth between. This creates the same beefy construction with less cost involved.
