Went out yesterday to do mine got wheel off caliber off ready to go thought I was prepared then had impact screwdriver grinder both ready and whole lot of pb blaster worked on it for 2 hours didn’t get one out so ordered drill bits it’s coming out today
I find myself removing screws from threaded AV racks. I’ll start by making a small hole then upsizing the bit to something a bit larger. Once I get a good enough bite on the screw I reverse it and unscrew it out. If that doesn’t work I’ll just hog it out until I can pop the screw out.
I gotta try this tomorrow… both screws on my 02 accord are rusted shut. Tried using an impact screwdriver.. all 3 Phillips bits it came with broke off at the tip 😡 So when using the bigger drill bit do you drill it in reverse?? Or how do you get it to unscrew in the end??
No you dont need to reverse it, just keep drilling and it will come out. The screw head will detach and slide over your bit. You dont need to remove the threads since these screws aren't needed so you simply don't reinstall them.
All your Phillips bits broke because they aren't Phillips screws.. they're JIS 3.. a JIS 3 but removes them perfectly but nobody knows and assumes they're Phillips and wonders what Phillips heads rarely work.
Just get a drill that is a little smaller than the head of the screw. The ones on a kia soul wasn't hardened so the drill cut through like hot butter. If they was important screws they would have been through a harding process
You stress the use of titanium (coated) bits, is that because you might break bits in this process and you want to use cheap ones? Cobalt bits are better for this purpose. But are more expensive.
I've just found that titanium bits are the cheapest ones that work everytime for me. I was mainly trying to get the point across to use a metal bit that is a harder material than the material of the screw.
Stupid Honda!!! Every damn Acura and Honda I buy and replace the brakes even using the Jis #3 screwdriver, those pesky rotor screw are always stripping!!! No matter the impact, the proper tools, damn those engineers!!! Buying a dremel cutter just to remove the bastards!
I drilled one out, then said "screw it". got a good #3 phillips impact screw driver and a good hammer from amazon. It showed up next day. That was a useless idea... Back to drilling.... What type of oil are we using? WD?
Lol i find about 1 out of every 4 or 5 i do will actually come out with an impact screw driver, so I end up drilling most of them. The "proper" way to get them out is with a compressed air impact. Yeah I just used WD40
@@AcuraAdvice It took me hours to get the the job done. Literally done at midnight. Also the rear pad was so tight it would not move freely. I think the caliper bracket must be bent. The original pad has the same issue, but the front moves easily.
Everyone has such a tough time removing these... I need to make a video of how I handle them. Non ratcheting breaker bar with a hammer. Light torque, hard impacts, never more than a 30 second process. They usually come out and are re-usable. Once in a while they sheer, which isn't a problem. But they never round off.
@investmince159 Just a braker bar. I'm specifically pointing out "non ratcheting" because many people use long handled ratchets interchangeably with braker bars, but clearly, you would not want to hammer on a ratchet head.
I was thinkjng that the lube probably keeps it from smoking up but its probably making it take double the time and when the head comes off everything else is still slippery
THESE SCREW ARE THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE. Literally hate them. Makes a simple brake job the most frustrating thing ever

@@critixair1257 @elijahcalvert1551 you guys need to learn how to use a torch. Takes like 15 seconds to get those screws out
Honda/Acura have some of the worst design components like this
you dont even need to use those screws , once they are moved dont even use them again. They are just to keep the rotor on during the assembly line
@@CSIG1001don't you have to tap threads in the rotor again and get a new screw?
@@wewantthegoldsuckah6317no 😂
Literally all cars have these
@@fernandosantiago1679no they don’t, most cars have it fitted on the hub/knuckle so once you slide them on the studs that’s it no need for screws

Use regular drill bit for part 1, then use a left hand drill bit for part 2. Way easier!
You are evil
Top tip: If Titanium coated drill bits don't work. Use Cobalt.
Gotta say thank you, this method worked for me.
Took me a whole day.
This comment shouldn’t have made me laugh the way I did lmao. But bro same that was me yesterday
For any metal drill bits what do you recommend
What type of screw driver is that? Is that the high power screw? 🤔
Impact screw drivers work for me even on the worse rotor screws
This definitely works. I just completed the rear brakes on my accord
My bit broke off inside the hole and non of my bits are able to drill out the other bit now… what can I use 😢
What did you end up doing lil jhit
A chisel would work too
Can try glass drill bit
@@IFlo369 I was thinking about that 😅

Learned my lesson from using cheap bits. One exploded on me, and luckily, it only hit my elbow. The SOB bled.

Took me about 15mins per side when doing this. Mostly because I was being careful
Why do people tighten those to 1000nm when they only need 9nm max. just wrist clicking torque is enough.
If only it was that easy
It is! No CGI or special effects were used in the making of this video.

Slow & steady-also-a healthy dose of Boelube works wonders.
Where did you get the extractor set from
Its not an extractor set, just titanium drill bits. The set I used is linked in the description.
What kind of drill you used
Its a black and decker literally the cheapest drill you can buy on amazon. So you don't need anything fancy literally any drill should work
Use cobalt and it will rip threw that screw like it hot knife in soft butter
If it doesn’t come out by the end just hit it with a rubber mallet from the back and it should come lose.
What does the liquid do
Stops it from overheating
If a brand new drill can’t penetrate the screw, is it the drill bit fault or that the gun is not strong enough , the gun is 3 years old ?
The bit. The bit needs to be of a harder material than the screw is.

But why don't they do us a favor and leave them off?😂
