One of the MOST enjoyable fishing videos ever. Loved not knowing if ANYTHING was under the ice and then just drilling holes and having fun. Very cool. Thanks Clayton
North Dakota used to stock rainbows in tiny lakes about 25 to 30 years ago. There was a well-know fisherman in the state that would catch monstrous rainbows (up to 8 and 9 pounds) early in the winter in only a few feet of water. I remember that he would try near inlets, very small bays, and also beaver dam areas. This was a great video.
Everybodys dream to have their own private little lake to go fishing on. We stocked our dug out this spring, but we got a bad algae bloom in the July heat and lost all of our trout. This was a really cool video Clayton thanks for the change of venue. Definitely encouraging to all those guys doing stock trout.
Oh boiiii did that look like fun ! You have to do another video with sum youngsters , be great to get the reactions . Keep up the great work as always Clayton, teaching conservation and fish handling skills are valuable to anglers young and old and especially new ones ! Stay safe on your adventures.
Clayton , this is definitely the year of stocked rainbows ! We are catching 19 inchers that were stocked at 8 inches . By the way i use my ice scooper to scoop the fish out of the hloe . Try it !
Love the video clay, stocked trout is always fun for young ones...I like to use Shrimp on a small jig, normally thats what they get fed at the farm before they are relocated!
Been waiting for this video since you mentioned it. Always nice to get an invite to hunt/fish private water. I'm a bit spoiled in this aspect today but in my younger years I would find out something the owners enjoyed (good wine/whiskey, local beef, LABOR, whatever) and stop by just to gift it to them on occasion. Maintaining that relationship was important and it payed off. When the guiding businesses came in and leased up the land, I still had access to prime areas.....And now I'm hungry😅
Clayton I look forward to your Videos ,I don’t get out as much as I want to so watching these help scratch the itch. Have to ask what kind of sunglasses you wear,it’s important to have good eyewear on the water and ice !
those are good looking rainbows for being stocked. I never figured out how to properly 'land' a trout caught through the ice. Im used to netting them in open water lol. I sorta do like what you do with just grabbing their body once they flop onto the ice. Maybe a landing mat to let them flop onto it would be a good way for them not to bang themselves up?
Me and my son got out all this weekend between yesterday and today we caught at least 40 fish, rainbows, brookies, and browns all small because it's a small pond but was a blast we were constantly unhooking fish sometimes it's nice not to go for huge fish and just have a blast
Awesome vid! I stocked rainbows in my dugout, caught good on rod open water but had to net them before winter as they likely would winter kill. Would kill to have a fishery on my land like this! Also used the livescope for the first time coming from mega live and is it EVER better. First trip out and ended with over 40 walleye!
@@dashybaby255 members only just gets to see the videos first for a few days (sometimes). I don’t have any special private videos for members . Just some private live chats :)
Looks an unreal honey hole he’s got there! Love the video. Would you say a jig and a minna is a pretty good way to find trout? I went splake fishing last year but I only used trout dough and also jigged a small dinner bell. I caught a few but didn’t even think to try minnows for trout.
Very cool! I don't think I've seen any videos on a private pond. Great to see something like this! Brings me back to my own pond, real pond size, where I cut my teeth on becoming a fly fisherman. Stocked rainbows and brookies every year for about 7 years. Nothing huge like 23 inches but 15-16 was possible. Even had grass carp for a couple of years, and they got HUGE. Was headed towards getting tigers but the beavers had other ideas and invaded. Once I get them to move on the pond had lost 5 feet of depth due to silt. Great place until then with natural spring water feeding it. Maybe again one day. Thanks for the great video!
Good to see you back on the ice Clayton. Rainbows are fun to catch. They stocked a bunch in our local pond a few years back and it changed the game. Looking forward to the next video.
