i was trying to use cheat engine on a pretty underground game- there were practically no tutorials for it and the ones i did find were completely baffling... but this was so clean and concise. Hats off!!
As a dad who gets very little gaming time these days, this will be very helpful for games I want to just enjoy, without have to grind away time I don't have. Will be particularly great for Ubi-bloat games.
i think the best way to find a unknown value in a 1m+ list is to to AB testing. Freeze half of the values and see if there is an effect, and then continue to freeze the half that has an effect. with 1m values it only take 20 trys to get to 1 option
not really , that could easily lead to a game crash. I have used cheat engine in the past with a 3d singleplayer game , and freezing even 2 wrong adresses could just freeze my game or crash it ( the freeze was pernament , couldnt just unfreeze the value as that did nothing )

a few things to keep in mind: you can use the "unchanged value" parameter, as long as the game is paused or working in the background... another way to mimic the "unchanged value" it's by doing "next scan" several times for the same value. I still did not manage to get the values for speed of walking in Left 3 Dead, or amount of damage per bullet. those may require a deeper understanding of the execution of the code.@@Swashed_

I had watched it months ago and had Cheat Engine on my PC but never got around to trying it. Today I wanted to add some gold in “Army of Ruin” to save me a long grind. I rewatched your video and within 5 to 10 minutes I had 9,999,999 gold pieces in my game. It was so easy that I did the same thing with “20 Minutes Till Dawn”. And if the need arises again with some other game I feel confident I’ll know what to do. At the age of 70 I don’t learn new things that often. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

That's tricky because some parts will only be 1. So it's not like u can use process of elimination on their quantity. It will be better to get money to buy parts.

I could modify (freeze) population, but i could not do that for gold, for example. Even though i have selected ,,all" types of data, it still could not find it, not through other windows of cheat engine, for processes. Also, for ,,Age of Mythology", i could find for a population, but data is represented as some random, small number, not having anything to do with number that is exact and written in the game. When i do "next scan" or increase/decrease value by exact number, nothing shows up. SOmehting is different with the game im trying to do this with becasue it has worked in other games. Do you know what the problem might be?

You didn’t find the actual address for money. It sounds like there’s multiple “display” values and you changed one of those. Sometimes there’s a bunch of values for something you’re trying to change so you need to find the right one. Also, it won’t work if the game you’re playing is online. Also, some values are “protected” and are hidden better and takes some messing around to find the real value

So you first scan for the value of how much exp you have, and this finds every memory address that contains that value. Then, you get more exp so the value changes and you scan for the new value, which should narrow down your search. Once you find the memory address, you can set the value to whatever you like. Also, yes, if you change the value, it should remain to whatever you set it to (assuming it’s a single player offline game)
Cheat Engine itself is not a virus. A few antivirus marks it as malware or PUP because it can attach itself to processes and modify memory. The installer you download through their official website is bundled with a bunch of adware. More information about adware can be found from below antimalware vendors.
This actually makes it seem a lot more simple and manageable than I ever would have thought. I still have some questions/concerns, though, primarily: If you accidentally change a value that wasn't the one you were looking for and it breaks something, how do you fix it? And, if you do that trick to change a code to one that does nothing for invulnerability, and you decide you want to change it back, how do you do that?
If you change a value that you shouldn’t have, then either nothing will happen or the game the will crash. Changing the code to do nothing can be reverted in the code list, which can be accessed in the bottom left corner of cheat engine. Just right click on the code and select “replace with original code”

Cheat Engine work also for GTA 5 Online, I gave myself 1 billion and I spent them in 2 months and I had no ban. If you are low level avoid giving yourself too high a value (just for GTA ONLINE). NICE VIDEO and GREAT JOB.
This was an excellent explanation of how to use cheat engine! Very easy to follow and understand the reasoning between each click. One thing i wouldve liked to know is this. If you have an RPG for example, that can be played completely offline or online, are you able to manipulate the values, save, then go back online and have these values stay? I think that if can create a save file directly to your PC or console there is a way to manipulate values and make them stay even if you go back online since the save file data is not client side/other inaccessible PC.
Thanks! Yeah you can definitely do that if you’re bringing your offline profile online. I’ve done this with Terraria, Dying Light, Dead Island, and the Borderlands games. In the case of the games I mentioned, you don’t even need to go offline to use it. The server gets the info from your client so you can use it in real-time.
Tip: When in Cheat Engine, always tick the box that says "Compare to previous scan", it helps in weeding out incorrect values by aligning or sampling the previous value you scanned. For example, if you are trying to find X value and you get multiple results of the X value. You hit compare to the previous scan and insert the new changed value of X which is XY and the program will then look for results that were X but then changed to XY. Anything that didn't change from X to XY is disregarded. This option helps you find the address you want swiftly. I use it all the time and it never fails.
I narrowed it down to 4 addresses and everything I do those 4 stay. And I can change each one and it will change in game , however it’s not accurate. I type in 999999 and I get 255$ and so forth with other things I type in , just get random numbers nothing over 255$ though. If I type 100 I get what I type, 100$. Confused
The value type byte only has a range of 0-255. So you are constrained to editing the value within that 255 range. It’s annoying and very limiting I know. My workaround for this is to give yourself 255 of a really valuable item and sell that

I kept getting an error for some sort of typo or something when trying to copy and paste the coding for big endian. Hey, so sometimes there’s multiple addresses that are responsible for any given value. Sometimes you have one address that’s only responsible for *displaying* the value in the UI and has nothing to do with setting the value. You would need to find the address that is in charge of changing the value and it just reading from it

So I get a scan error whenever I enter my games value. Playing plants vs Zombies and trying to enter the Sun value. Cheat Engine was able to find my game when I select the process.

Try scanning for different value types. If you’re not sure, just select “all” for the value type. Instead of searching for increased or decreased, just scan for changed value
Issue i have, when i find the money value. i change it. and works right but i want to make it into a script. i put it into a script after putting value up , i go to toggle the cheat and it doesn't work. it wont give me the money amount i put in value before turning it into a script. im new to cheat engine so idk. but everytime i spend money without putting it to a script the value goes down. i want it to stay at the value i want. so if i make it into my own trainer anyone can toggle money and gives them max money. but its not working. when i put it into a script and toggle the cheat i dont get the max money

what if you change the money value but when you go back in to the game the value changes back to what the money in the game. example i change the value from 1400 to 9000 but when i go back to the game nothing has change and when i look at cheat engine the value has gone back to 1400?
It’s likely you’re trying to change the value of an online game, where these values are not stored locally. The values are stores in the server which you’re connecting to, and the value you see on your screen is on your game client (local machine) and you can change what you see but not the actual value

What i do is, go to area without music and press "unknown search", go to area with music and press "value increased" and then return to area without music and press "value decreased" until i find a value but it seems there is something im doing wrong since i wasnt able to find music value for some games BUT found a code to disable it in Google. You can do it easily bro :) just launch the game and attach cheat engine to it. Start scanning for values and change whatever you want
Tip: When in Cheat Engine, always tick the box that says "Compare to previous scan", it helps in weeding out incorrect values by aligning or sampling the previous value you scanned. For example, if you are trying to find X value and you get multiple results of the X value. You hit compare to the previous scan and insert the new changed value of X which is XY and the program will then look for results that were X but then changed to XY. Anything that didn't change from X to XY is disregarded.
This option helps you find the address you want swiftly. I use it all the time and it never fails.
I narrowed it down to 4 addresses and everything I do those 4 stay. And I can change each one and it will change in game , however it’s not accurate. I type in 999999 and I get 255$ and so forth with other things I type in , just get random numbers nothing over 255$ though. If I type 100 I get what I type, 100$. Confused
The value type byte only has a range of 0-255. So you are constrained to editing the value within that 255 range. It’s annoying and very limiting I know. My workaround for this is to give yourself 255 of a really valuable item and sell that
@@Swashed_ thanks for the quick response ! It had me confused , I tried so many different number combinations trying to surpass 255 and nothing worked. Makes a ton of sense why now. Appreciate u for the info ! I just downloaded cheat engine this am it took me forever just to figure out the basics , I’m on a Mac and there aren’t many tutorials , everything I could find is people operating on windows. I kept getting an error for some sort of typo or something when trying to copy and paste the coding for big endian. Idk if macos uses different coding than windows but I’m guessing if so then that explains why it won’t work. & when I enable and save them in the extras part of the settings menu they don’t seem to save , I go back and the boxes are unchecked. still haven’t been able to get that to work but when I search for all values it seems to work and I can find what I’m looking for.

Hey, so sometimes there’s multiple addresses that are responsible for any given value. Sometimes you have one address that’s only responsible for *displaying* the value in the UI and has nothing to do with setting the value. You would need to find the address that is in charge of changing the value and it just reading from it

Hi, I’m scanning for a value, but it’s changing after 2 seconds or so.The value is loaded into memory when doing a specific action in game but it’s overwritten after a few seconds.Can I like freeze the value/addr when it’s found or tell CheatEngine to copy it and the following 20bytes?(it’s a string)
Some games have an anti cheat mechanism that makes values jump around so you can’t scan for them. This sounds like what you’re dealing with

So I get a scan error whenever I enter my games value. Playing plants vs Zombies and trying to enter the Sun value.
Cheat Engine was able to find my game when I select the process.
when I want to apply this to the game I'm currently playing, it doesn't work. after I enter the number of items that I want to change and press "first scan" and then I reduce/increase the number of items then I press "next scan" all the addresses listed immediately disappear. any ideas how to solve it ? if you wondering, im playing "ostriv" and i tried to change the amount of value of one of the item.

Try scanning for different value types. If you’re not sure, just select “all” for the value type. Instead of searching for increased or decreased, just scan for changed value

Issue i have, when i find the money value. i change it. and works right but i want to make it into a script. i put it into a script after putting value up , i go to toggle the cheat and it doesn't work. it wont give me the money amount i put in value before turning it into a script. im new to cheat engine so idk. but everytime i spend money without putting it to a script the value goes down. i want it to stay at the value i want. so if i make it into my own trainer anyone can toggle money and gives them max money. but its not working. when i put it into a script and toggle the cheat i dont get the max money

I notice that you don't change the values back to their original value even if it isnt the correct one to change. Does that have any implications for the game? Can it crash if you dont revert it back or corrupt your files in any way?

what if you change the money value but when you go back in to the game the value changes back to what the money in the game. example i change the value from 1400 to 9000 but when i go back to the game nothing has change and when i look at cheat engine the value has gone back to 1400?
It’s likely you’re trying to change the value of an online game, where these values are not stored locally. The values are stores in the server which you’re connecting to, and the value you see on your screen is on your game client (local machine) and you can change what you see but not the actual value

Comma shouldn’t make a difference. Just search for the value without the comma. Values with a decimal point (dot) would be a float value

what i meant is, can u make a tutorial to disable them? there is barely a thing on google that tell how to do it and none on UA-cam, i was able to mute some of music channels in 1 game tho,tried on another and wasn't able to.
What i do is,
go to area without music and press "unknown search", go to area with music and press "value increased" and then return to area without music and press "value decreased" until i find a value but it seems there is something im doing wrong since i wasnt able to find music value for some games BUT found a code to disable it in Google.
