Unfortunately this is the last episode of the winter season in Poland. We will back this summer again (june probably) with Jäger the dog, 72h Duo Survival revenge, Raft adventure and more;) Stay tuned! Please turn on the subscription notification bell and follow us on social media: facebook and instagram.com/smoothgefixt for updates and previews. We also launched our Patreon site, check the end of the video for info and reasoning;) Thanks a lot for watching and the support Folks! Julius & Dylan
I am SO EXCITED for next episodes. Love them all !! You gents and of course Jäger have gotten me back into my roots here in canada. I have officially done a 2 days 2 night survival 3 times since I watched my first Smooth Gefixt episode (knife vs axe)With my truck for bears but I make my own sleeping area outside just like you guys do. Will continue for the rest of my life as it is the most therapeutic thing I have done. All best wishes Smooth Gefixt.
So now, to simulate what it's like to try to survive in the cold after one or both of you have accidentally gone through the ice... we're going to go through the ice and then try to survive the cold, but on purpose! Seriously though, I appreciate your dedication to realism, because it's easy to know what you SHOULD do in a situation like this, but actually being in it in real life it's much harder to remember what to prioritize first, which you clearly showed - the conflicts you had about tending the fire and trying to get the clothes dry, vs gathering more firewood so the fire doesn't go out completely, for example. Well done, and thank you. :-)
I really appreciate how raw this feels, not trying to romanticize it at all. I feel like I learn more from your videos than from a lot of the more curated channels and TV shows out there. Thanks and keep up the great work!
These guys are amazing. Especially considering the cost of replacing lost and damaged gear. The type of people who really can benefit from a good patreon base
Safety point on hypothermia. A vital precaution for this exercise would be not just having spare clothes etc in case you're really struggling, but having someone else present to judge whether you are are hypothermic. Your brain only works on glucose; if all the glucose in your blood is being burned up trying to keep war your brain simply doesn't work. You are just not aware of what is going on, and are in no position to make decisions like getting out the emergency gear.
Really instructive video, thanks. Lessons learned: Don’t walk on the ice! Getting cold and then only having a poor sleep really affects energy, morale and the ability to think clearly next day. Getting lost or hurt is much more likely. Carrying a set of warm fleece clothes and some fatty food like pine nuts makes a huge difference to warmth overnight and energy. Feet can freeze in wet boots, so spare waterproof socks really help. Fire is great for drying out and quick heat but insulation is best for sleep.
Wow! you guys set the bar very high for yourselves. Not only the icy water, but an injury each, no food, and no metal container for heating water between you - reasonable things to have with you in the circumstances. I appreciate from my own experience how hard it would have been to have maintained morale in the circumstances, and was impressed how you seemed to cope. This exercise points up the need for appropriate clothes for the outsdoors when it can be wet: fluffy clothes that will function adequately with just a good ringing out, combined with quick-drying windproof(ish) layers: so wool or airy polyester; fibre-pile as opposed to fleece; poly-cotton rather than cotton; and waterproofs.. An item that would have been a help in drying out clothes is one of those very absorbent cloths (usually yellow). (Blot, wring; blot, wring). Personally I would have had one of these and a canteen on me, normally ... and at least SOMETHING to eat! Another thing I would have on me if I was backpacking as opposed to just out for a walk would be a pair of Crocs (plastic foam clogs: size 11 pair weighing just 230 g). Much respect!
Oh, no, I relied on you guys to remind me it's Friday, what am I going to do till June,?? Lol,,, so glad you didn't die on this challenge,,,!! Can't wait for your next instalment,,, all the best from sunny (at the moment), England,,, cheers, , John,
Wow, even though the temperature was dropping and you were in mid challenge, you were camer, thinking much more clearly, and not bickering. Very different from those few hours after going in the water. You even gave more thought to physically limiting your "injured" areas, maybe your subconscious felt you were now safe enough to bind an arm or leg. Very well done to have stuck with it and completed the challenge. 👍🏻👍🏻
Yes, very true; that is why so many people fail this challenge - their minds wander, and simple tasks become unmanageable. Thank goodness you had each other to lean on. I don't think either of you might have survived this alone. (Though you are both very capable.)
Well done guys. It really shows the importance of staying dry and not going on the ice at all if you can avoid it! If it was necessary you could strip down to boots and waterproofs, put your dry clothes in a waterproof rubbish bag, then cross the ice or river, etc, so if you do fall through you have your warm dry clothes ready. No need for a fire to dry them then. Also, keep your phone in a waterproof bag or case when around water! A leg or foot injury is a very likely reason why a day hike might turn into an overnight camp, if you can't put any weight on your leg you really are stuck. Being able to make an effective pair of crutches is a valuable skill. If going hours away from home without phone reception in freezing weather carry a mat and sleeping bag and some food bars just in case!
It's interesting to see how you two react to eachother under a lot of pressure compared to the competions i.e. The cutting tool or shelter videos. Thats really helpful I think to consider that for my next survival Trips.
So did you guys ever say to each other in the middle of the cold night - "just remind me why we doing this again ?" Thanks for suffering for us guys, you dudes are awesome.
fantastic job on the video. not sure if a fire reflector crossed your mind to help with the warmth, but with the injury scenario it may have been too much. keep making those awesome videos!
I admire your ambition. What you attempted was bold af. High frickin five lad. The night is a killer. And not getting a sleep really starts to mess with you. Add to that and in firmity like a Major accident. You Bois are Savage. Stay healthy
That was a tough one and o so cold. It’s tough to try and imagine just how cold it is when sitting indoors and watching but you both did a top job and your still alive so good job all round.
I’m enjoying your channel very much, the impromptu shelter looked great 👍🏻 if I ever find myself in a situation like this I hope I’m with you guys, but if not this will give me lots of good tips to survive. You guys are great, stay safe ✌️on 🌎
You guys are AWESOME and I just found you the other day... Please keep this up! I know life stuff is always pressing, but there are 47,000 + people that all want to see you succeed and love your camaraderie! In the past 2-3 days I think I just watched 85% of your vids and only want to watch more! Thank you for posting everything you have!
Welcome wondering Green Man! Thanks for the relevant and supportive comments, makes it definitely worth doing this. For now it still quite hard managing the channel though, with the restricted time we have and such. But we will find our way in that:) Some new video's coming end of the month. Thanks a lot! Cheers, Julius
Great job!! You even filmed the "death walk" home LOL I felt everything you guys went through and I haven't had many trips where I haven't burned the socks off my feet trying to warm them up so kudos if you still have all your socks.
You remember when Laurel and Hardy had to move a piano from one place to the other? It was a difficult task, and it sometimes looked a bit clumpsy. But as long as they sticked together, we still can look back on their actions with pleasure and say: Smooth gefixed ouwe! (things often don't go perfect when they show their true spirit.)
Cheers mate. My boys and I have been on Holliday. Arrived home and watched your production Brilliant as usual. I would like to share that my boys (twins 9years) love you to much. I arrived home today with my boys cutting a tree and trying to make a camp fire and sleeping quarters. You sparked and my boys imaginations. Cheers. Well done
I was a little worried you two would get seriously injured on this trip. Very glad to see you are both ok:). Can't wait till June, I loved the last 72 hour challenge. Love the videos guys , see you in june
Just started watching y’all’s videos and I gotta say I love them! Could y’all maybe do a “different campfire types” if you don’t have one already, that I may be missing. I was just curious because I noticed at the end of the “nature shelter challenge” you had mentioned a few types of fire setups and I would love to learn!!
Great video guys. It is nice to see how a REAL situation would play out. People always have gadgets to help. And I would probably be one of them. ( I am a women, tend to over pack) LOL. You guys r great and thanks for keeping it real. Love your vids. Can’t wait till summer.
I think I found your channel because of my favorite chef and camper Carlisle 195 / I would love to see you guys on a camp together, that would be epic and I promise you have never had better camp food as John can prepare, if you haven’t already check out his video’s
Hebben jullie goede tips waar je kan survivallen? Ik ga in de zomer namelijk met een ex militaire maar we hebben nog geen geschikte locatie in de buurt van Nederland. Tips voor locatie?
A great video part one & two it looked very cold you's have made me think about challenging my self so my next time out I'm only going with my MSK1NIFE and food for 24hr in the woods and see how I get on 😂😂😂atvb jimmy 😎 😎
Maybe some sort of makeshift cask would´ve been a good idea for the "injured" leg: one very important survival skill/technique trained and Julius would`ve had a reminder. But great video once again guys!
hmm modern day first aid teaches you not to go near the leg if its broken, just get medics to location asap.. hehe! Anyway we shouldve done more to help julius remind him about his leg 'injury' ! Cheers.! Dylan
Hello smoothie gefixt remember me I’m Tom Seest but sadly a lost that account but now I have this one I am a survivalist but your videos really do help

Should of warmed rocks in or by the fire and then put them in your boots helps dry them quicker
Dylan was the stronger team member on this particular challenge. You both did really well. A difficult challenge! Well done to both of you!!
I really appreciate how raw this feels, not trying to romanticize it at all.
I feel like I learn more from your videos than from a lot of the more curated channels and TV shows out there.
Thanks and keep up the great work!
Real supportive words, thanks a million MrItsalie!
Amazing experience!
Cold is not a joke...greetings from Germany

haha i think the message there is dont lose/burn your stuff hehe thanks alot!: )

nice one!
lol so frustrating how dylan kept saying you need a big fire and you just made a small one. it's not the fire that keeps you warm, it's the embers.
big fire=embers
MORE YES
I'm waiting for new upload
Maybe some sort of makeshift cask would´ve been a good idea for the "injured" leg: one very important survival skill/technique trained and Julius would`ve had a reminder. But great video once again guys!
