"Hey, I saw this one already" Yes, you did! This video went up on the HaloFollower channel, so you might've already seen it there. But now it's here on my own channel :D
I've played this game twice: once on Normal for story (regretted it), and once on Legendary as part of a back-to-back marathon of all the Halo games (because I'm a completionist and can't leave anything unfinished); and quite honestly, there are only TWO things I like about this game. 1) The graphics on the design of Sanhelios. 2) The grunt telling stories to an elite in the Arbiter's camp. I got more enjoyment out of that little guy in several minutes than I did the entirety of the rest of the game.
Fun fact, that grunt is Joseph Staten, current campaign project lead for Halo Infinite (and legendary Bungie director of cinematics.). He was the voice of the grunts in all the Bungie halos as well :D
I agree completely, Sanghelios was by far my favorite part of that game, it's nice to actually *see* more of the Halo universe and have world-building especially after reading a couple of the books with parts about/with Sanghelios in them.
Is it any wonder I not only refuse to play this game, but also refuse to call it a Halo game? To me, there is no Halo 5, it's jus called "5: Guardians"! And even then I'm being way too overly generous!
i love how the moments of the game that are walking and talking are gameplay and the scenes that are intense action and boss fights are cutscenes. Like the dev's got it fucking backwards
sounds pretty accurate. Doing this game on legendary wasn't even worth the challenge. Between the campaign and the AI. I couldn't tell which was worse to be honest. Maybe the AI since I carried the campaign with the scattershot shotgun. I ignored the AI nearly 100% of the time on my first playthrough of this game which was on Legendary and that was the only time i touched it.
Wait what, who are these guys? Is this another spartan ops thing... its not' its from the books. 343 thinks people who play halo knows how to read😶 🤣 gets me everytime

you didn't mention my favorite part of the game; in the 2nd mission, before getting on the space fighter jet, they all literally forget the ship is exploding, and chief tells them all to stay behind, because somehow they can stay there, and not blow up, to keep from doing illegal thingies with chief
I think the big problem with Halo 5 wasn't so much the characters or even the plot, but that the plot felt padded a good chunk of the time. It wanted to get to the "good parts" so it shoved a lot of unnecessary and borderline useless "filling" in order to get you from point A to point B. Cutting out all the fat and simply focusing on the narrative would have done the game much better.
Exactly, you can see bits of what they wanted to do that just didn’t pan out. The “good parts” are probably the parts of the campaign they made first, that they spent the most time on. Those parts could have been part of the “original” vision of the game (the true Chief vs Locke story we saw in the marketing); but due to time constraints or a shift in focus due to studio interference to shoehorn in the co-op or some other reason we will never truly know, I think they took those “good parts” they already had done, said “this is fine” and then built the entire story around those setpeices. Hence, all the lazy low effort filler levels and playable cutscene levels that were clearly only there to dump exposition and get us from point A to point B. The original, un-neutered Chief vs Locke narrative is still buried in the game, you can still see it in the game’s good parts. Sanghelios, for example, is an important part of the pursuit, and was likely set on that planet originally for the purpose of recruiting the Arbiter into the hunt for Chief, as was hinted in the Halo 2 Anniversary intro. All this is really conjecture in my own head, but the fact that certain parts of the game stick out from the filler and feel different for being -actually good-, and that those parts just so happen to relate to the original story the game was marketed to have? It’s funny how coincidental that is. We’ll probably never know the extent of what went wrong behind the scenes.

There are much better ways to introduce expanded universe material to both new and knowledgeable players, though. In other sci fi shared universes like Star Wars and Star Trek, most references to other material are explained in a way that will give new watchers the information they need, while doing some nice fan service to watchers who already have seen this stuff (unless the thing is something so iconic you'd have to be completely new to the franchise not to know). I mean, all Halo fans want more connection with the books and spin-offs, this game just didn't do it right. It also relied to much on the information many of people wouldn't know or immediately remember to drive its plot and characters.
9:24 If the Devs did this a cinematic where the arbiter single handedly defeated the warden it could have saved the mistake of them givin' him that overdesigned new aesthetic and actually making him important for the overall plot

I figured out why these videos are so good: none of us actually have actually had 3 friends willing to play a whole campaign with us since we were in middle school
Fred being useless is kind of in character as in the books he's just master chief but worse, like a budget chief, he also got the highest number of spartan deaths within moments of taking command from chief.
I wish they had more of Blue team, they are an important part of the books and awesome characters .They are legit spartan 2s and just as badass as the chief. I believe Linda is the sniper and pulls off some insane shots that made me wish I was better at the game. First strike is awesome and totally worth a try, especially if your thirsty for more Halo action and world building. Also the amount of information Cortana has from the covenant is insane and makes her invaluable to the team. The entire story is like the scene when chief gives the covenant back their bomb. And the book feels more down to earth and easier to understand than this game did.
Buck: of course is from Halo 3 ODST, replacing recruit who was to become a Spartan but was killed. Locke: Was Introduced in Halo: Nightfall as an ODST and an agent of ONI who are basically human bad guys. In Spartan Ops you play the spartan you made and you can play with friends to make a squad. You are tasked with saving Halsey from Jul 'Mdama. However Palmer who is supposed to be your boss and leader is secretly given the task to kill Halsey if you can't save her. Which is bull. Last time I checked, you corner Jul 'Mdama and Halsey with Palmer who has a magnum. With out giving it a second thought Palmer tries to kill Halsey instead of Jul 'Mdama, You try to stop Palmer and Jul 'Mdama tries to move Halsey out of the way. She gets hit in the arm and Jul and her get away. When they reach a medic they are forced to cut her arm off to stop an infection.
