- The Stray Cats are a rockabilly band formed in 1979 by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer (Bloodless Pharaohs/Brian Setzer Orchestra) with school friends Lee Rocker and Slim Jim Phantom in the Long Island town of Massapequa, New York. The group had several hit singles in the UK, Australia and the U.S. during the early 1980s.
For every time I see a handmade SMG, I'll hear this song! Who has to understand, understand!

The clash is my personal favourite, but this is a nice one too :D
Two versions were recorded.
One around 88/89 as a b-side for Bring It Back Again.
The other one in 1992 for the Original Cool album.
The Stray Cats covered this as well?!?! That makes it harder to pick which version to put on my setlist I'm writing for my gonna be radio show.

And all I thought Stray Cats accomplished was Stray Cat Strut and Rock This Town but never knew of this one. And yes, I'm aware Stray Cats had a lot of hits, but my favorites were the two I mentioned.

The original was from the late 50's, then Bobby Fuller covered it in the 60's, which, in turn, was covered by the Clash in the late 70's and THAT'S how we end up with the Stray Cats - a band that created the neobilly sound in the 80's. Long story short: It's an 80's song from an 80's band ;) I Hope I could help

The Crickets :-o no less. The year after Buddy Holly died, if I'm not mistaken. It's certainly not him singing on it.
Prefer the Clash version
Great pop song. I like this version but it's a bit percussion-heavy. For me Bobby Fuller is better, so is the Clash. Sonny Curtis (of the Crickets) does something different and real good with this.

bennevisplace the clash has the edge here. Try playing all three after each other. And you will see what I mean

The Clash don't even use the correct chords. Sad.
The stray cats were much better musicians than the clash and it shows in their respective covers of this Sonny Curtis tune.
