Chooks will LOVE to free range that area, but don’t be upset that they scratch out and spread mulch as they look for bugs to eat. A few well placed logs to rot out will be paradise for them. The rule of thumb is one square foot per hen to roost at night, so your coop would be plenty big enough for a dozen hens (weather permitting them to sleep out of an entirely enclosed shelter at night). They also scratch out moss from lawns, eat lawn grubs, and they produce great fertilizer just by walking around doing chicken things! Mine get scraps and feed in the above ground garden beds over winter and they naturally turn and spread the soil as well as their fertilizer so the soil is almost black by spring planting time and so full of nutrients! I think naming two of them Turf and Tools would be hilarious 🤣
Tim I’m so happy for you. All your hard wrk and helping your community, you deserve this so much. Enjoy this next chapter of your life. Owning land is very gratifying. I grew up on 3 acres and raised my family on 4 acres as well. Good luck with the gardens and remember..composting is a great way to get natural fertilizer 🇺🇸👍🏼
Don’t forget about the wildlife when you “clear”. They need homes. Set yourself a line that you don’t keep creeping in to all the bush. You can create enough in the open areas with your plantings etc. good luck with it all 💎🙏💕🐨
Get 3 chickens Tim, get rid of the widow make at the back of the coop❣️and use bark in the gardens as rocks will reflect heat to the foliage of the plants and the bark will naturally break down over time. Nice upgrade 👏 Ps we have a kubota excavator on 12 acres of natural bush & 2 acres maintained, it’s well worth the investment Tim and yes I encouraged the hubby to spend the price of a new car on something I’m not allowed to use (insert picture of golom on digger here)😂
I’m so excited for you and your family. You’re going to have so much fun. I can’t wait for you garden to get going. I started my own, it’s a learning experience. I’m hoping every year it’ll get bigger and better. I can’t wait for all the tips and tricks from other viewers who have knowledge in gardening. Best of luck to you!!
Geez, that place is massive Tim! Well done, can’t wait to see more videos around the place. Talking about trying other tools, try out the Ego chainsaw, my mate has one, I think it would work well for your use there, plus you’ve already been trying Ego gear.
i have a 6x3m chicken coup similar size and only have 4 chooks as first timer but their nearly 2 yrs old now, adding chooks could be an issue so i would say go for 6 pullets straight away as there is and will be a pecking order hope that helps a little, just be ware if you let them free range they will scratch areas to dirt
I agree! A bigger mower indeed! 😂😂 Hopefully you can talk Nicole in to being in some of the videos! ❤ That would be so nice!!! Hopefully you will catch some of the wildlife on video. That would be amazing.
The property is beautiful, Tim. Looking forward to the changes and improvements you and your family will be making. A bit jealous, I'll admit. Makes my 2 acres look tiny.
Once you get the weeds out you can put down Preen which is made from corn and when it gets wet it makes a sheen over the ground which keeps weed seeds from germinating. It is a dry application and works well to keep the weeds at bay. We use it in our garden area plus our flower beds etc. My husband says gravel would work better for your paths between the beds. You could put down landscape cloth and then gravel on top. To maintain the gravel from any weed starts you could torch them or hand spray with chemical or a natural solution. He says the bark will break down into soil and unwanted plants are more likely to germinate there. Enjoying your blog/podcasts and your new property. I need that mowrator. It is so cool.
Mate that's awesome ..enjoy the journey and the channel will grow so much with the interest .Love your work as always ,from an old veteran of 36 years in the business ..
G'day Tim & Carthic, 🤔With all that space what about a pool with Water Feature using a retired 🚒Firetruck as the Fountain, might come in handy with your 👨🚒skills during Summer too Tim.
If there is a lavender hybrid that grows there it will keep deer and other pests away from your garden. Also mint (potted because it will take over) and rosemary.
Before planting under trees, make sure your tree is deep enough rooted. Shallow rooted trees don’t appreciate the competition for moisture and it can actually kill the trees
Yep what us country folks call Pitt Street farmers. This is going to be painful to watch just from listening to this conversation. lol. But seriously just rip everything out, add a good amount (couple of barrow loads) of fresh compost to each bed if you can get some off your mate with green recycling place to improve the soil, add some chook poo based fertilizer or similar, give it a good turn over, mulch it with either pea straw or Lucerne mulch which will also improve the soil over time over and water it in. Get that done first then figure out what you’re going to plant. Gardening Australia on line is a great place for hints and tips about EVERYTHING fruit and veg for beginners. Best way to go is figure out what you want to eat or try that needs to be planted now and research those and start from there. I love growing my own stuff. Great way to get the kids to try new things. You would probably be better off with about 4 chooks to start with., they don’t all lay at the same time. Good luck, can’t wait to see it all take shape. 😃
@@turfandtools its a start. 😂 No town water will be an eye opener. Most think they have being water wise sorted. Relying solely on when it rains will soon re adjust the thinking on that. You will soon learn to be more efficient with what you use. You have to. It doesn’t take long to go through a few tanks of water when the weather isn’t in your favor. It’s fine while there’s rain. 🙂 It will be an adventure for the whole family that’s for sure.
@@kimluck7996 Lol what? Everyone with a backyard vege patch is a 'Pitt Street farmer'??. So most of the suburbs then! You 'country folk' need to get over yourselves me thinks! Hardly rocket science to plant a few veges.

Definitely name the chookens Turf and Tools, love it, they could be the channel mascots 😅👌
I am eagerly anticipating the garden area! I couldn't hold myself back from this area! ❤

Love it. Awesome to see more of the property during the podcast. Can’t wait to continue following the progress.
I so wanted to come there and weed the garden 😂😂. So many possibilities on your new property, love it !!!!
Adjustable gates. Who knew. Definetly adding that to my shopping list

Well happy for you Tim and deserved
Congratulations on the new property!!
Not sure about rocks around veges (I'm not an expert). Organic mulch, coffee grinds, manure are usually good for veges.
I like gravel between the raised beds.
Where have you purchased the property sounds to big for a Sydney suburb

That widow maker needs a professional arborist to remove. Or one squished coop
Find someone who has horses and ask them for the manure it is a good soil conditioner
Tim? Is the property Sydney metro? How often did the previous owners cut the grass?
15:00 There you go.... Instant free mulch.
You need to consider carefully what you spray around a vegetable patch given you'll be consuming the output.
A 5t excavator would be the perfect size for you
Sounds massive to me. I know nothing about them though
You need a caravan to park out there.
Is Carthic a firey too?
How many acres?
Are you going to have a robot mower on the block?
If you build a house will you dig a well?
10th annual 😂 gee time is flying!
Great pod. But where’s Carthic turf and tools shirt or are they only made for boys??? O he will need his name printed on it it’s spelt LEGEND.
👍❤️❤️
10:29 just me I would throw some small checken wire on chook gate or around it for bit snake proofing.
26:48 scag makes a 61inch stander
Is there not a house there?
