This is a Beautiful Song! I was only 10 yrs old growing up in GUAM when I first heard this song. This song brings back good memories growing up in Island
heard this song for the first time in 81? high school days. Until now Still my top 5 greatest songs ever written for me. The melody,lyrics,arrangements,vocals....super tune...
There is still real music for the young people...but DJs don't play it...there are a lot of talented young people playing songs that make you think about the direction your life is going or should go.I think Macklemore is one and check out Allen Stone, blonde kid who sings a bit like Al Greene and a mix of couple of other singers. He's only 21 and very talented. Miss George D so much. I've played him every day for at least 3 years now, when I slowed down and rediscovered him.RIP Sir DUke.
The good old days. Notice the piano sound from the Roland MKS-20 synth module layered with the DX7 e.piano. Love the 80's the times of the first digital synths. Of course I own an mks-20 myself too :D Btw. the sunglasses is so dead wrong! :D
@sinchronicity Yeah, I've noticed that too! I've always enjoyed hearing his falsetto register in his singing. I guess the older he gets, the more likely he seems to refrain from hitting 'em notes. On his "In A Mellow Tone" CD, he did a more laid-back version of the same song in the same key, but he basically used the deeper, more natural octave. Check out "Brazilian Love Affair" - the live 2003 version (if the video is still on UA-cam) - I guess age is a factor - you gotta love him!!!
@Gustavo Garcia yes, Lynn is STUNNING (as well as GD) I just noticed that Lynn Davis, she's one of the best chorist and singer of the world imho -- not only a "beautiful voice" -- she's simply beautiful on herself. What makes live version of the song much more interesting and so unique. RIP Georges Duke (what I discover again).
+Claude Citton Every time I hear her sing, I get chills. Her voice is so amazing and untouchable. You are right, she is beautiful as a person inside and out
It makes sense, I agree. Just hate the fact that these type of tunes just don't hit the soundwaves anymore. Thank god for youtube...bands like Earth, Wind and Fire, Kool and The Gang, Brick, Midnight Star-they had talent. Look at their videos, nothing fancy at all, but the sound and words meant something.
He admitted on the Dave Koz radio show, he couldn't hit those higher notes like he did 20 years ago. He admitted he uses those back up singers more now. However, timeless song, great entertainer, and nothing to be ashamed of just b/c it's 20 yrs. later.
the albums: The Grand Wazoo Apostrophe Overnight Sensation Roxy and Elsewhere One Size Fits All Bongo Fury (live with Captain Beefheart) check out some of the stuff on those albums and check out videos of Zappa and Duke playing....awesome stuff, you might dig Zappa after hearing........catholic girls is weakness when it comes to FZ
I totally agree whit everything you say. Just to add that situation is same in Europe too, probably in whole world. Marketing destroying art. Real problem is that new generations doesn't understand real art. That could lead to much worse problems... Sad.
This song is so smooth. It is difficult to believe that Epic Records didn't want to release this as a single . They felt it was a too white (whatever that means). The pop department said George and Stanley were black artists with a white record and that they didn't have the time to promote this record at pop radio.
reminds me of my childhood... when life was all good. is it just me, or did anyone else notice Carl about to pass out twice at 8:07 & 8:25? what was wrong with him?
The bassplayer is not Stanley Clarke. The bassplayer looks like Freddie " Ready " Washington, Clarke never play a Ken Smith Bass, The bass is a Ken Smith 5 strings... Sounds Awesome!
I know what you're saying, but you'd expect anybody hiring Stanley to want him to perform a solo at some point, or at least sing he's barely even visible in this performance. I mean it's like hiring Eric Clapton to play rhythm guitar on your record without asking him to solo - you may as well just ask a session musician like Daryll Stuermer.
yes when he relesed master of the game he told the truth becouse he is you hear them talk so much aboult quincy jones talk more about him he has done just as much quincy is now doing the same thing with the rappers over and over it all sounds the same
The drummer is Chester Thompsom ( Weather Report, Genesis, Alphonso Jonhson...). He's awesome!
the background singers deserve their props...what beautiful voices they all have
Lynn Davis has a facebook. facebook.com/lynndavismusic
Yes, Chester Thompson on drums!!! Good toms and snare sound!
Lynn's voice is truly untouchable. No one can match that

This is a Beautiful Song! I was only 10 yrs old growing up in GUAM when I first heard this song. This song brings back good memories growing up in Island
Great performance.this is one of my favorite songs
I love the live versions of this song more because Lynn always has a solo part in it. No one can touch her vocally
been playing this over and over again, a mellow touch....just missin' my sweet baby
He realized the vibe didn't even need words.
heard this song for the first time in 81? high school days. Until now Still my top 5 greatest songs ever written for me. The melody,lyrics,arrangements,vocals....super tune...

This is a pure classic!
Awesome!!!
George Duke is the man!! where's my dookie stick, lol
Old skool groovin' at its groovinest! :)
6:11 was one of those moments in church where they say "Thats alright".
Yeah, I read that too, in the commented discography on Duke's website. A very interesting read for Duke fans!
Nice track....pretty song. Music heals the soul. Look at society today, the children appear to be soulless. There is no real music directing them.
Underrated Musician !

r.I.p big daddy George Duke
this reminds me of after the love has gone by earth, wind and fire come to think about it...

RIP
wow, he looks like Mr T in this video lol, love his playin, i never knew he sings, great keys player
The best of ground

i know, Sir Duke was a tribute to Duke Ellington from Songs In the Key of Life back in 1976
the albums:
The Grand Wazoo
Apostrophe
Overnight Sensation
Roxy and Elsewhere
One Size Fits All
Bongo Fury (live with Captain Beefheart)
check out some of the stuff on those albums and check out videos of Zappa and Duke playing....awesome stuff, you might dig Zappa after hearing........catholic girls is weakness when it comes to FZ
👌
Yeah! 日本で野外コンサート‼️ どこだろう。。。
I totally agree whit everything you say. Just to add that situation is same in Europe too, probably in whole world. Marketing destroying art. Real problem is that new generations doesn't understand real art. That could lead to much worse problems... Sad.
Chester Thompsom excelente baterista!!!.

Frazur “Too white” meaning with no soul in the music. George was known for doing mid-tempo to up-tempo funk records
reminds me of my childhood... when life was all good. is it just me, or did anyone else notice Carl about to pass out twice at 8:07 & 8:25? what was wrong with him?
I'm very sorry he was high on drugs
@firelione Thank you.
I love this song made in 1981?
hope someone have a video of "touch and go"
hehe... his falsetto caused hsi voice to give out. It happens to all of us.
C'mon Carl! You had one small part.
I was thinking him...
BTW, who is the drummer in this video - he's fantastic!
What year was this? It had to be after the 1983 concert in Japan, early 90s.
The bassplayer is not Stanley Clarke.
The bassplayer looks like Freddie " Ready " Washington, Clarke never play a Ken Smith Bass, The bass is a Ken Smith 5 strings... Sounds Awesome!
@fnkdrmmr i agree w/u youth nowadays are more patronizing on music that is hard to understand...(juz an opinion)
What year is this vdo?
Is Stanley actually playing here, because he doesn't normally play rhythm so far as I'mn aware...
I know what you're saying, but you'd expect anybody hiring Stanley to want him to perform a solo at some point, or at least sing he's barely even visible in this performance. I mean it's like hiring Eric Clapton to play rhythm guitar on your record without asking him to solo - you may as well just ask a session musician like Daryll Stuermer.
not there lol :p
Man, I love this song! Just don't make em like they use to...why why why????
a little fucked up at live compared to the cd version but i think it is still great!
Again, I'm not on about the bass he's playing, but the style - it's unusual to here Stanley play rhythm without any lead parts at all.
he plays bass
yes when he relesed master of the game he told the truth becouse he is you hear them talk so much aboult quincy jones talk more about him he has done just as much quincy is now doing the same thing with the rappers over and over it all sounds the same
looks like chester thompson on drums?
Drummer...?
I'm aware of that, but the bassist here doesn't sound like Stanley.
2019?😂
Awesome, and don`t forget the chorus: Lynn Davis, beautiful voice!
