Ursula was a recurring character that Lisa Kudrow was already playing on the show Mad About You when Friends began. The producers at some point decided it would be funny to make the characters twin sisters. And then this mini crossover happened. The two women (including Helen Hunt) who thought she was Ursula in central perk were from Mad About You
Came here just to say that! I remember, being a huge Mad About You fan I was so delighted when Helen Hunt (Jamie Buchman) and Leila Kenzle (Fran Devanow) walked in Central Perk and knew what this was about! I remember wishing their cross over was longer! David Schwimmer also did a crossover as Ross on the TV show The Single Guy, and Jessica Hecht (who plays Susan Bunch, Carol's partner on Friends) was a regular in that show so the actress couldn't be in that episode (at least I don't remember seeing her), and Ross talks to Jonathan Elliot (the protagonist of The Single Guy) about his failed marriage.
"Well smack my ass and call me Judy!" will never not make me laugh out loud 😂 You seem to be really enjoying the show, and that's so cool. Mondays are bearable now.
"Friends" 's main character's hangout was Central Perk, and "Mad About You" 's main character's hangout [of sorts] was Riff's, where "Ursula" worked. "Mad About You" is another great sitcom that you should react to. Paul Riser is in it, along with some fantastic supporting cast. You'll love it!
Mad About You is definitely one of my favorite sitcoms of all time, and probably one of the most underrated I think. I love everyone on it, and ever since I was a kid, I considered Paul and Jamie to have what I think of as the ideal relationship.
Absolutely. "Mad About You" was a solid hit at the time and the anchor show of the Thursday Night sitcom lineup. One of the reasons that Friends became so popular in the first place was because the show followed Mad About You in the lineup. "The One With The Blackout" was part of big crossover event where all the Thursday night sitcoms had a blackout in the episode, which was caused by Paul Reiser's character on Mad About You at the start of the evening. (Seinfeld did not take part in the event). Since all the NBC Thursday sitcoms at the time took place in New York, it made a lot of narrative sense and it helped bring viewers into the other shows. Mad About You was a hilarious show, and Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser had great chemistry and patter. It did lose some of its magic imho in the later seasons; I'm not sure it was as good at keeping things fresh in the same way that Friends did. But it's definitely worth a watch.

I love the Mad About You crossover with Ursula the waitress and Helen Hunt. Mad About You was another hilarious show from the 90s. Definitely worth a look! Great video! 👍👍
I love all your reactions, and Friends is one of my favorite shows ever, so I am fully on board for this series! One of my friends and I were so obsessed with this show in college that one of us could say a single word with a certain inflection and the other would immediately get the reference!
Yeah Chandler’s action were pretty manipulative and iffy in this episode but in his defense it was due to his insecurities of confrontational conversations which is realistic in a way.
By the comments you know by now Ursula was a character on Mad About You, and the reason she brought Joey so much food when all he wanted was coffee is because giving people the wrong food was what Ursula always did. Also Jon Lovitz, the "doobie" guy, is a comedic legend, he's been in a lot of things, check him out.
Ursula bringing Joey all that food, wasn't that she was being generous, but that she was a REALLY bad waitress, and gave everyone the wrong food. Probably better context from watching Mad About You. Ursula made Rachel seem like the best waitress in the world.
I was a big fan of Mad About You and seeing Helen Hunt's character cross over to FRIENDS was a delight. Of course, Lisa Kudrow's character is recurring on Mad About You, so it is another opportunity to enjoy her work there as well.
I think Joey dating Ursula is the one worst thing he has done, poor Phoebe, but I've seen people do things like that in the real world so it is kind of realistic, things happen when lust and love are involved

yeah i always saw it as them finally starting to connect a bit, but their connection is banter. i think they've genuinely not minded each other so much in awhile and what we're seeing is just more light snipping than anything genuinely mean. i think they both are starting to accept that they both played a huge part in carole's life and will play a huge part in the baby's. so they're accepting that the other isn't going to just go away. it may not be warm and friendly but i really get the vibes that under the banter there's some affection there, if anything just because the other is someone important to the person they love.
Susan sucks. She always has. I mean, this isn't her kid, and she and Carol have only been together, at this point, maybe 6 months based on the pregnancy? AND she either met Carol within a week of them breaking up, OR they had an affair. If she was a dude, no one would be expected to like her. Being a lesbian isn't an excuse for shitty behavior.

Why is it weird that susan is not the „woman“ in this cenario?? She is a lesbian and probably won‘t ever get pregnant, neighter is he. They ARE on equal ground for this exercise… Both want to support Carol and should know what they could do in this situation. Seems like sexism to me. The only reason it bothers Ross is because he is stuck in his heteronormativ thinking. Susan knows this and therefore challenges him
Just tell it to the writers (who created the situation deliberately because it’s odd and meant to be funny…yes it’s a comedy) that they’re being sexist.
Chandler wasn't being manipulative. He likes her, but he's socially awkward and can't tell her that she's fired. That's his character, he doesn't know how to say the right words in an awkward situation. Yes, he should've told her the truth, but there was no malice there. He wasn't stringing her along or manipulating her. He jist doesn't know how to deliver the bad news.
Sorry but manipulation means dishonest control. By not telling her and continuing to have a relationship with her (good intended or not), he’s being manipulative. Being socially awkward is not a valid reason for treating someone this way.
@@thecocoacouch i'm not justifying what he did, i'm just saying he wasn't being malicious about it. He can't even break up with Janice.
