Making $20 of Aldi groceries last a week (Australia, 2021)

  • My experiment was to see the cheapest amount of food groceries I could get away with shopping for at Aldi Australia in Sydney in 2021 - turns out it was A$20!
This is how I did it and how I pissed off people on Facebook and got media coverage on news.com.au, 7News and The Daily Mail.

This is actually a good video to show international students how much money they can spend on groceries. So good work!

crazy that you could buy 1kg of froz veg for $1.50 less than a year ago. I went to buy a 1kg of peas and corn last week and it was $7.00!

firstly Kudos for being one of the first people in a challenge to finally use bagged coleslaw! that is one id get cause u can stirfy or have it as a salad or put in a soup.
how amusing is it that Aus we seem to not get the challenge experiences.
i reckon you managed to get some decent food in terms of vegis n fruit .

Nice work, I did a meal plan for $15 for 5 days at Woolies, pretty similar items. I'd have been slammed way worse as I didn't have any fruit and only a bit of veg. Still it was enough food to live on if that's all you had to spend.

Home made vinaigrette or mustard or any other kind of dressing.
      Or make a marinade.
Or season with curry powder, or other spices.
Or lightly ferment the veggies (sauerkraut style, using naturally occurring lactobacillus converted to lactic acid).

So yah,, hmm, that’s like $5 a week plus shit coffee which is like $4. So hah $9. Beat you and I went to woollies.oh yah and it made me thin probably gained a cancer tumor but that’s easily cut out :p kidding.

would love to see a woman do this with $20 mainly because they eat a lil less and could have a lil more luxury... or even a fortnight on $40 because you wouldn't eat all the bulk items so you could spread the meals out and add a lil luxury.

@@dangerboy1111 It used to be cheaper. Not that much difference in price, and some things are even more expensive than other shops. Gestapo like bag searches that treat you like a criminal. I can't think of any other store that does that.

@@boggy6060 mate had his bag searched once and swore off Aldi lol. Of course farmer's markets are going to be cheaper. Aldi is like half the price of Coles or Woolies for the exact same product, they're by far superior.
