Love your video! My wife and I and sometimes my daughter are in the process of section hiking NY. We're about halfway done. Thanks for sharing!

You are very welcome! Glad to hear you will be on the trail soon. Please let us know how it goes for you. Have you hiked any other states along the AT yet?

@@krohikinghappens I have section hiked all of Georgia, N.C. from Georgia to Fontana Dam, SNP, Northern VA, W. Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, N.J. and Southern NY to the Lemon Squeezer. I take breaks from work whenever I can. I like how you scouted parking areas ahead of time. That's my method too. Sometimes I shuttle when available. Do you know if Uber is around the NY A.T. section ?

@@philbest427 Wow, you have some extensive experience on the trail. I haven’t looked into Uber in NY yet. I imagine it should be available. The trail isn’t really passing through any areas that are too remote. I’ll be looking into it when the time gets closer and post an update.

So, you got my curiosity up regarding Uber in NY. Just for fun I popped on Uber and plugged in a few of the northern most parking areas, ie. NY-52, NY-55, NY-22 and Hoyt Rd. All of these locations generated ride options. I'm sure further south towards Bear Mountain will have options as well.

@@krohikinghappens thanks for checking Uber out. That sounds good for my NY transportation options.

Oh, ONE MORE comment! I actually made a side trip when on my way to New Hampshire last summer to hug the Dover Oak. It is impressive - but as a Californian who loves the Sequoias, I know and love many big trees. Love everything about the Dover Oak.

Oh, I am so happy to see you up to hiking again! I am hoping to start doing 1/2 sections this Spring (in NJ, following in your footsteps) and complete sections by Summer! I have been visiting random shelters, mostly to enjoy the space and make sure the log books are in good condition. :-) Thank to you, I discovered the Mashapanoag Shelter which is 10 minutes from my home. I have even been there in the SNOW! I look forward to watching you take on New York!

Hello Julie, so nice to hear from you! It's exciting to hear that you will be hiking the NJ sections this year. It's means a lot to us to have inspired you to following in our footsteps. That really is our whole purpose for posting these videos to encourage folks to get out there and enjoy the AT anyway they can.
Have you been to the Rutherford Shelter yet? It's the only one we didn't visit during our hikes. It's in section 4 and the access trail is about 3 miles from the High Point lot on Rt 23. The shelter trail is 1/2 mile long so an out-and-back hike to it would be like 7 miles. The shelter is near Rutherford Lake and sounds like a nice destination for a day hike. You can also get there via the red Iris trail from the lot which might shave a mile or two off the trip.
We are getting excited to hit the trail again this spring. It's looking more likely that we will be hiking the Connecticut section instead of NY though. The trail is still closed through Bear Mountain State Park so we will wait until next year for NY. We have a plan together for CT and it's just a matter of editing it all together to get it posted so keep an eye out for it soon. The northern end of CT at the MA border is kind of remote so we'll have to wait for winter to fully clear out of there before we can start it.

@@krohikinghappens Yesterday I visited the Mashipicong shelter again, it’s sort of my “home base” and my friend was complaining about the Barbie privy. I LOVE the “Barbie privy” - lol - haven’t done Rutherford yet. I’m on my way to Virginia this week and will be walking stretches of the AT in Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. It’s Spring Break week for me! Thanks for your wisdom and guidance - look forward to hearing about your plans for Connecticut! I’ll be watching!
