- English lesson about the difference between ON TIME and IN TIME.
The meeting was scheduled for 10 a.m.
Do I say:
I arrived on time. … or … I arrived in time.
Well, both are correct BUT there is a slight different in meaning between the two.
In this English lesson we look at the difference between these two prepositions before the word TIME.
We also look at the meaning of JUST IN TIME.
We have included examples sentences to help with understanding.

I normally try to be on time for things, especially to work or when I have to meet up with someone. The punctuality is also a form of respect.
If I have to go to the airport, instead, and I ask my father for a lift, I usually arrive in time not only to have some coffee but even to build the plane that I have to take 🤦♂️😅
Yes, so true, punctuality is a form of respect.
Thank you
I have been looking for it
Really helpful

Wonderful!
thank u
Greatfull now l undstand
great job
Thank you.
I have a question please! What is the difference between sick and ill?
Thanks in advance
dictionary.cambridge.org/grammar/british-grammar/ill-or-sick
Ill and sick = not in good health. Ill is more formal than sick.
We can use sick before a noun but we don’t normally use ill before a noun.
@@WoodwardEnglish do you have a video about idioms ?
شكرا جزيلا ♥️♥️
You are welcome.
I usually arrived late for my extra classes when I was in high school. But now, I have changed. I always in time because I easily got anxiety if I late for my class.
Thanks for letting us know.
That was great!!!
Thanks.
Ur channel is raaly useful ❤
Thanks. :)
IN TIME:Early to a determiner time
On time:According to scheedule
both could meaning similar but on time is exactly in the point of time of a scheedule
I don't know if it is also true for native English speakers, being an Asian learning English, I have to say the usage of preposition is the most difficult part of all. Things like rule of law, rule by law, contract of service and contract for service, their meanings could very opposite with just a very subtle difference.
Don't worry, it is difficult for everyone learning English. Native speakers just learn these rules by hearing/seeing these words so often many many times every day in a natural way. However native speakers normally won't be able to explain the rules (unless they're teachers or like learning languages) because they have learned the rules "by instinct" and what feels or sounds natural.
And yes, there are SO MANY rules and exceptions with prepositions in English. Personally, I wouldn't have to learn them as a non-native speaker.
Also prepositions are often difficult to learn in other languages even for me (and I love everything to do with languages).
I appreciate to you
Useful Lesson thank you Sir
Im always on time sometimes in time but never late.😌😌😌
Great!
So if I get 20 minutes before the meeting starts but I’m not planning on doing anything else. Am I on time or in time?
Because I understand that you are in time when you’re early but at the same time you’re going to do something else but what if you just stay waiting for the meeting to start?
I'm on time, but just waiting for it to begin.
@@WoodwardEnglish thanks for the response 👌🏼
I'm a very punctual person so I usually arrive in 20 minutes before the scheduled time. But with regard to projects, I often finish them just in time.
Thanks for letting us know.
* arrive 20 minutes before (you don't need the preposition IN in this case)
Hello! I like your lessons! Your lessons are very good. I have a question. What program do you use to create tables for your lessons?

@@WoodwardEnglish thank you. Good luck with your channel!
Before I was so on time doing things but now I always let things to be done just in time. So bad habit. Must be changed. It is my revolution in new year.
Thanks for letting us know.
* Such a bad habit, it must be changed.
* resolution
As soon as you said “Hehppens” I figured you were from New Zealand
:)
Thank you for the explanation, but I'll never use these words because I'm always too late ;)
:)
Could you make a video related to relative clause & relative pronoun, please ?
I will eventually.
No,usually I'm not on time for thing.
Yes,I often arrive late to things.
Please, I'd like to know when to use "on doing something" or "in doing something".
It depends on the word that comes before those prepositions.
@@WoodwardEnglish Please, explain it better (on a video).
He is so skillful in doing some extra work. It depends on starting time
@@mouadlachgar6962 thank you for answering. What has been stunting me is when "on" is at the beginning of a sentence. For example, "In/On trying to protect the queen, Howard had put his own life in danger." My question is, 'Are those prepositions interchangeable?' www.ldoceonline.com/dictionary/on
I’m usually on time👍
That's great.
So what's the difference between in time and early?
감사해용
Iam normally in time for thing by the way.
.. or on time?
What about at short notice?
This video is only about using a preposition with the word TIME.
At short notice would be in a separate video.
why you used "for" 10 a.m. , instead of "at" 10 a.m. ??
Great question.
I scheduled the meeting at 10 a.m.
= 10 a.m. was the time when I scheduled the meeting.
I scheduled the meeting FOR 10 a.m.
= That is the planned time for the meeting. Maybe the day before (at 4 p.m.) I told everyone at work.... "Tomorrow we have at meeting at 10 a.m." ... I scheduled it at 4 p.m (that is the time when I planned the time for the meeting)
It is because of the verb TO SCHEDULE.
You SCHEDULE something FOR (a certain time).
@@WoodwardEnglish thx ^_^
I watched the video just in time.
I usually arrive in time but some time when I'm so exhausted, I Don't come on time
* ... but sometimes when...
Why did you use for 10:00 am not at 10:00 am ??
It depends ... What are the complete sentences?
@@WoodwardEnglish thank you I found the answer in one of the comments :)
He arrived at the meeting just in time.
Good example
The prepositions on English language are not easy!😮😢🎉
Now I find the video on time
Good
I ,m usually on time for all my duties
That's good.
so thank you . god blles you@@WoodwardEnglish
🗽
I used to be in time before I got married but these days I usually arrive just in time. 12/29
* .... to be on time before I...
Make sure you are to be in time, when you attend interview
* Make sure you are on time...
@@WoodwardEnglish Is there a dictionary that contain all possible combinations of possible structures i.e : on time, in time, at times, at that time, at some time, by the time, in no time, etc.... and their explanations? ... adverbials like sometimes, many times, most of the time etc....? It would be very nice .Thank you
I usually on time and hardly ever in time
* I am usually... (remember the verb TO BE)
There is no such thing as being in time. One may arrive in time to do something, but one may not be in time.
That is what I say in the video.
I usually to be late to do something😅😅
* I am usually late...
On time, I'm a serious person . lol
Thanks for letting us know. :)
U usually arrive in time, I’m punctual.
* on time
On time understood
But
In time still couldn't understand
in time = you arrive earlier so you can do something else.
Im always in time .., jajajaja its not true ... I m always just in time
Ha ha ha ha!
S
Thanks a lot !
