Daniil is by far my favorite character in Pathologic... so flawed, so broken, yet he still fights. Stubborn to the bitter end. So much so that even the Plague admires his persistence. I really hope we get his route soon.
It's still histerical to me that Daniil Dankovsky, with all of his self proclaimed 10.000 IQ, heard a tragedian tell him he needed an open heart and thought that meant a *literal cut-open physical human heart* and then proceeded to GET ONE AND TOOK IT BACK TO PHYSICALLY SHOW IT TO THEM.
To be honest, this whole town and especially the Mask Theater's troupe do love to mix literal and figurative to the point you're willing to try anything. But yes, Daniil coming back with a sliced-up heart to show to the people asking for him to be more empathetic is *chef's kiss*
So to recap: Daniil is a character from a Russian video game, who later finds out he is nothing more than a vaguely anthropomorphic children's toy, and in this story he is stuck in a time loop where he must address themes of death, and free will, and religion, but mostly death. Bachelor Daniil Dankovsky is literally a "Russian Doll"
This may be the intended metaphor. Though I doubt it because this word play works only in English. We don't call anything "a Russian doll" in Russia you know. It's matryoshka.
@@heathercalun4919 I know. The show is named after the special kind of doll known in the West as Russian doll. No chance the show from 2019 being an inspiration for Marble Nest as well. Never mind though I already see it's not what you meant.
Skye as the Bachelor is really an underated talent I think. The way he's able to walk the fine line between being extra enough to be Daniil and doing so credible a performance is mind blowing to me
My headcanon is that Daniil lost his father and that's why he's so obsessed with death. I think he was initially just a curious child obsessed with beetles of all things, the item description for the beetle in marble nest is "I used to collect these as a kid. Left the collection with my father." This to me means he left behind his childlike curiosity when his father died.
"I have misinterpreted the tragedians" followed by the Eric Andre "we'll be right back" sting is comedy. fucking. GOLD! I love this production so much, thank you
“Every Saturday has a Sunday” has lived in my head since I watched SulMatuul’s play through (from when I used their playthrough to lull me to sleep yes I know it’s weird) and they added that the word “Sunday” meant, iirc, resurrection in Russian. Also the morphogenetic field joke was for you, I know, but I appreciated it.
did anyone else forget that "marble" is a type of building material or was i the only one picturing a bird's nest full of marbles (as in small glass spheres) for at least two-thirds of the video...?
Quick note that an official trailer for Marble Nest had at its end the scene where haruspex and changeling tending to grievly sick Daniil. Just an easter egg, but able to give us some context long before we even start playing.
I believe the answer to why Daniil is so obsessed with death, is because of the whole narrative. The Powers That Be were attending a funeral, and they are playing a morbid game as a coping mechanism. Each of the healers represent a grieving technique to come to terms. Daniil is about the future. No one will have to die. The world will be perfect. He is smart enough to conquer death. He is confident he can accomplish it. Just destroy everything and forget about it. Burakh is about the past. His story revolves around clutching to memories and traditions. He believes that the idea of moving forward is dangerous and holds fast to the memories and beliefs of the primitive and bizzare steppe culture. It represents just retreating into your own memories and refusing to move forward. Clara, is about acceptance. It takes sacrifice, but she merges the two others in a healthy way. She allows them to move forward and come to terms with thier dead family member and still hold thier memories.
Personally I always saw Danil as a way for the kids to get back at the world. Danil is a doctor who pushes the strengthes of modern medicine, and yet his academy is destroyed and when talking to the powers that be he's called the villain. The doctors couldn't save their grandfather, so a doctor was made their villain, punished throughout.
1:08:15 i love this line so much. "Indeed, we do know the key to victory, but it will be of no use to bachelor dankovsky" it's something you'll only recognise on a second playthrough (or, like me, a rewatch of this video) but the tragedian has, mid-sentence, stopped talking to the bachelor and started talking to *the player*. There is a way for YOU to win, to reject the rules the game is played by and invent your own, but Daniil can't do that. Indeed, the advice the tragedians give you is useless to him.
Hes coming, one day, it just will take a while because living is expensive and these videos take a long time to make (marbles nest is a very short demo and this video is about 3hrs long, while haruspex is equally long as the bachelor one). The next patreon goal is "I start working on the haruspex video immediately" so if you're impatient there are options to help out!
In the meantime, waiting until Ruby organizes a play around the Haruspex storyline in Patho2, SulMatul did a play through you can watch. It's a direct play through, so we're not having voice guests, and he intended on playing it blind (as opposed to his Patho1 play through where he worked with clockwork efficiency) so it's a bit frustrating at time, but it may scratch the itch as we wait.
im straight up biting at the walls of my cage right now in excitement seeing this in my sub box. the first two pathologic videos of yours I’ve watched easily tens of times each and im ecstatic at being able to watch more
I love experiencing the game like this, but maybe my favorite part of each of these videos is the intro where you talk about a facet of theatre history and in the end manage to connect it to the game's theme. I look forward to seeing which one it'll be for each new entry in the series. *slaps roof of pathologic* "this baby can fit SO many old weird european playwrights in it!"
Thank you for mentioning how critical Suzanne was to Beckett's success. Behind every successful man there's a woman arranging and enabling the success, for real
Perhaps I'm wrong in my thinking but rewatching this series on loop for several months now I cant help but feel Daniil is unfairly judged as the lesser of the three protagonist. Hell, maybe Artemy and Clara do the most unquestionable good in their playthroughs and maybe they are more pleasant and respectful to the towns people but there is just something so admirable about Daniil's devotion to save lives no matter how much the town fights him. Of course his solution is the worst out of the protagonists and in the end he kind of looses all hope in his pursuits. Though in the end he did save many people against all odds and against the wishes of many. There is just something about that drive that I can't help but admire. I can't help but excuse the worst parts of him, mostly because his worst parts are almost always in response to the worst parts of the reality he exists in.
It's a long time later and about Pathologic 1, but his refusal to hand Clara over to the inquisitor for an easy solution to a problem, even though she assures him it'll be fine and its what she wants, is what made me a Danill Fan. He's a logically minded rick and morty watching dick, but he has cast iron principles in the face of extreme pressure that he refuses to bend on. He will not lie for an easy way out, and he will not just flee to the steppe even if everything is falling down around his ears.
God I love how the morphine talks about how as long as you’re feeling pain you’re alive and then those boarded in the house with the plague don’t feel pain anymore.
It's a great video, Ruby. The whole series is among my favorite works on UA-cam. They remind me of all the things I actually love about theater (Endgame's a top five favorite of mine too) and even make me miss the lights and curtains. Which in this rather burned out chapter of my life is... sadly not an easy accomplishment. 🖤

Thank you so much Ruby, I've binged all three videos and then got back to them again. I know you have a patreon, but have you considered a go fund me / kick-starter campaign to fund the other routes? Either way, *thank you* , what a ride this was
SPOILERS: The song that plays at 1:55:35 is "Children are Burying the Doll". We know that Daniil is really a doll in a game in a sandbox, and in that game he is dying while being tended to by the children. Fucking. Art.
Pathologic rapidly turned into a special interest for me after the first set of Pathologic for those who never played it videos, so to see the team was doing Mable Nest too made me absolutely ecstatic
Hopefully you've played it yourself though. Because none of these videos really do it justice. You simply can't show a 3-dimensional world in a 2-dimensional video. These videos are good, but any understanding of the story you get is only Ruby's perspective on these events. It drives me nuts how UA-camrs exaggerate the difficulty of this game. Just turn on god mode! The devs clearly wanted there to be a way for people to experience the game first hand, even if they suck at the combat and health management. It's not like the game stops being hard when you're restricted to dialogue and moral choices!
1:25:00 Its the middle of the night and I am losing it trying not to laugh outloud. Oh God that hushed whisper of regret following his usual haughty arrogance. That is so beautiful. I love you Daniil.
Did you noticed, how different Death in the game is for Bachelor and Haruspex from Patho2? Death for Haruspex is an obstacle, challenge of some sorts. But at the same time - the fellow traveller, literally. For Daniil though... Well, the video says it better
For Artemy death is a traveling companion begging him to gamble away his life. For the Danil its a judge. Telling him he can't win the case is closed. While Danil in his arrgance and determination can insist on hanging the jury. Forever trapped bargaining with it in denial of his fate and the fate of others
Is it weird to say that this video, this story... Is almost melancholically comforting? Like sitting in a graveyard on a fall day. ...My aunt died earlier this year. I loved her dearly. She wanted to show me how to rock climb when I came over to my Gramma's in October, and afterwards we'd go to PF Changs for the first time, then go to her new house afterwards, but... She suddenly died from a heart attack while she was sleeping in February. Just...everything about this story. It's depictions and descriptions of death, and how it works, both physically and spiritually. The concept of a Focus and how it can hold a person's soul and mind. ...Aspity's explanation to Daniil about different types of death, and...Sticky's desperation to see him live. I know about the Haruspex's story in the second game, and his relationship with the boy, but with this implication, and the Haruspex dying in this story... This kid is just desperate to hold onto his only other parental figure, a respected doctor he so wishes to stay with and learn from. And the self-aware conversation between him and Daniil, and the genuine "Thank you for taking care of me.", and the implication that this conversation is *real*... That this is a delirious Daniil talking to the kid who's been watching over him, possibly for the last time... It broke me. I started crying the first time I heard it. It's been months since my aunt died, since my great grandmother died... Years since our neighbor who was like an uncle to my sister and I died. A decade since a childhood friend died. Two decades since my Aunt Susie died. But I still feel that sense of helplessness. I broke down crying twice over it. Just... Thank you for putting this out there, Ruby. I know you don't know me, and I don't really know you. But... Thank you. Also, I'm autistic, and I've had Inattentive ADHD since I was a kid, Daniil horribly misunderstanding the theater troupe, and the Tragedian's words, *that badly*, is a mood on so many goddamn levels, and it made me actually laugh.
GOD go HAM on the historic content!!! much as the haruspex route is exciting news, i can definitely say i pledged because your adherence to tone, exploration of the themes & subtleties of what you make videos on, is something hard to get anywhere else. as long as it's something you're passionate about, it'll be brilliant! (not to mention, burnout's just.. a goddamn painful state.) this video in particular meant a lot to me right now, so just.. an extra thank you. here's to continuing existing.
My personal headcanon for Bachelor was always somewhat similar to what Ruby claims: it is that he was 'inspired' by the war that has been going on for several years by the time we hit the 12 days. So, yeah, he probably lost not just someone, but many someones along with any orderly flow of life (and death for that matter). In my humble but very firm opinion, by the very nature of a war, the only winning party is death, and there is never a good justification for any particular casualty to happen simply because there literally and physically can never be a logically sufficient argument after which you go 'Oh, well okay then, the world is not a worse place since these deaths have happened I guess'. Death is always unfair, and defeating death almost mathematically seems like the only way to any kind of fairness and justice in the most ultimate meaning of the word.
Marat and Dora stuck out like a sore thumb to me playing the marble nest. especially their last dialogues 2:10:50 it feels so spontaneous for them to say “While you’re with us, there is still hope. For as long as you live, so do we!” and “I keep on working. Am I doing good?” as though what they’re saying is just a reflection of Daniil’s own thoughts on himself. they simply take up space to contribute to Daniil’s own fever dream. I wouldn’t be surprised that everything they do in this game are just figments of fear, stubbornness and grief for a singular dude. i will add the two are also in the haruspex route but arent prominent. i forgot about this tbh so they arent absolute figments. their last conversations including Daniil’s responses felt off imo. also…”It’s just a transition, right? And transitions are always uncomfortable and arduous.” relatable queer moment
Man just imagining this version of Danil who has accepted death say "So you're fervently clinging to life now, you looked much more dignified before". Oofff, I wasn't expecting this very sour, lonely boi to make me feel so
I just finished watching the other two plays and all the other Greats of Pathologic videos. The timing of this could not be greater. I am literally so desperate for more Pathologic content right now.
@@6thdemon - I just bought Disco Elysium last week on PS5, by chance! Having a little trouble really getting into it, is there a certain point where it breaks? It’s right up my alley for sure, I just am really confused as to what I’m even supposed to be doing for the most part. Haha!
@@scoe3000 honestly my advice is to just do what you want. a lot of the quests can’t be completed immediately (for example, the lower part of the town opens up on Wednesday). your first step to the main story would be getting past measurehead and in to the harbor but you can wait if you want. opposite to pathologic, time only progresses through more text so you can spend as much time walking as needed. just play the game as the type of character you want to be and dont be afraid to fail checks- sometimes failing can be even more fun than succeeding! dont worry about getting the best possible outcome or passing every check and having the most optimized skills. just do what you want- technically you can even get to the end by failing almost every check in the game.
@@6thdemon - Oh wow! This is actually very helpful! I’m currently grabbing the items needed to examine the body hanging from the tree, as every time I engage I vomit. So it’s good to know I can move from there. Hey, I really appreciate internet stranger! Thanks for taking the time to help me out there, I hope the rest of your year is amazing!
Ruby, that question you ask at the end kept coming back to me throughout the first Bachelor playthru of Patho 1: why does Daniil hate death so much? and the second i gave the same answer as you propose (he must've lost someone!) it all just hit me like a fucking truck. those videos are wonderful the more i rewatch them the more I enjoy them. thank you, from the bottom of my heart. i also love how you tie Patho to real playwrights and writers and philosophers. i adore this ❤
What I think shows Pathologic's view on the meaning of life is in the most unambiguous way is when in the first game they make you realize how all the hours and days you just suffered through to save the town was all in vain since it was all just some childrens' game and even they weren't real since this was just a video game you've played these revelations aren't endings, you're still pulled back into this now absolutely meaningless existence of your chosen character and you're still expected to see it through and make a decision about the fate of this fake world. Just the simple fact this decision has to be made *after* the secret "endings" makes me think that while they acknowledge that life is meaningless they also believe this acknowledgement is also meaningless as we humans may rationally accept the meaninglessness of our existence our irrational side still wants to (maybe even needs to) keep going no matter what. And we go on arguing for our case in the cathedral and make our decisions and we say goodbye to Eva and then we replay the game again a couple more times. Calling our real life meaningless is just as meaningless as calling it meaningful - it really doesn't matter since we will keep on going anyways up until we're absolutely unable to anymore
" ya I *know* I fucked up the french pronunciations....but here's the thing" "I. Do not. Care" "It's very funny to upset the French and I make no apologies for it. If they don't like it they can overthrow my government about it" I literally laughed so hard my cousin walked in to the room to check up on me
You are an absolutely phenomenal analytical essayist, I hope you know that. The way you explain and mix the themes of this game with theater in such a concise manner (at least to someone like me who is tragically lacking in exposure to that specific art form) does such wonders in making me think even deeper about the many cultural components that helped shape the body of Pathologic’s narrative, and that speech you made at the end about your personal thoughts on life and death honestly touched me deeply. Without going into anything too personal for a youtube comment, I am actually horribly thanatophobic myself. Just thinking about all of the many, many ways my body could fail me and snuff out my being makes tears prick at the edges of my eyes, and that’s not even getting into thoughts of my loved ones who’ve died or will die eventually. It's actually a huge reason why I've end up relating so much to Daniil's character. I can guarantee you that the subject matter of the Pathologic series is infinitely more tortuous to me than the gameplay ever could be. Yet despite that, these games have become a huge special interest of mine precisely because of how they tackle those themes. Each game, though especially The Marble Nest, presents itself as a thoughtful reflection on the nature of death as well as the both the physical and thought process of dying, and while it doesn’t cure my fear it is an appreciated antidote knowing that I’m not the only human overly analyzing such a fundamental aspect of nature. Sometimes that’s the best thing a piece of media can give you, y’know? Also, on a deeply impersonal level now, have you ever considered how the themes of The Marble Nest tie into the themes of Ice Pick Lodge’s previous game, Knock-Knock? This is honestly a niche analysis that probably only I care about, but that game was actually what made me first check out The Marble Nest in the first place, as the very title of that game was taken directly from one of the more memorable story-beats in Knock-Knock (although I use “story-beat” loosely since that game despite being far shorter is somehow infinitely more confusing and convoluted than every Patho game combined). But anyway, loved the Sulmatul and Playhead North cameos at the end, and good luck on all your future projects!
Absolute highlight of this video was the In character reddit posts, had to pause to read them both and then had to pause for longer due to wheezing over Peter and his twyrine innovation. also glad to see that we as a fandom all agree that the bachelor's sequence of thoughts regarding the Tragedian's advice is the funniest thing ever
It says something amazing that whenever I watch or read Pathologic stuff, it's the voices of the Codex Entry Cast for the protagonists I always hear. So damn excited to hear them again for a new performance, especially given that will be Patho2's Daniil! Can't wait till the curtain rises!
the nuts hit me on a visceral level bc i definitely remember deliberately 'imprinting' moments and memories of people on stuff as a kid. so that's what a focus is, huh. that's so fucking cool. thanks for this amazing fucking video
I started reading Waiting for Godot in the hospital with my grandfather, which ended up being 10 days before he died. It gave me so much comfort in the middle of the one of the most stressful experiences of my life. Thank you so much so making this.
I also lost my father this year and had an urge to pick up the guitar again. Hearing you talk about the struggles and emotions in doing that now really hit home. Sending love, Ruby. Doing my best to make it through the holidays and hoping we both can pull through them gracefully. These videos are great and I wish I had more to give you in return as they have brought me a lot of happiness and entertainment. they're incredibly researched, extremely entertaining and a peak into a game that I... will likely never get time to play myself. (but would love to eventually, life permitting!) Tossing my hat into the "please make theater history videos" pile cuz that sounds amazing.
god this video is SO good it deserves way more recognition. the voice acting to the narrating to the editing to the writing its all so great. keep it up
It's been almost a full year since this video changed my life and I'm not exaggerating when I say that. I had what I can only call a persistent immortality complex from my early teen years into adulthood, I was completely convinced I couldn't die whether or not I wanted to. None of the multiple therapist I'd seen over the years managed to crack this delusion in me, this video did. Through your narration of Daniil's journey to accept his own mortality I finally managed to accept my own. Accepting I could die made me value the time I had alive, in the past year I've made some significant changes to my life at the cost of certainty and stability so it was a life I found more worth living. I don't regret any of those changes. I don't imagine you'll see this but I want to thank you for making this
Hey, I really appreciate you taking the time to write this. I'll be honest and say that I've been kind of disappointed with this video in hindsight, but knowing it had that kind of impact for you makes it a lot easier to look back on this video fondly. Thank you ^^
Spoiler about the clocks The save system actually creates the tensest mechanically moment in the Haruspex route. Most of clocks are just standing in your friends houses. Including grief's, you regularly pass by. And when Barley quest comes, you having to beat up three people in the matchbox, the clock is simply tripped. I nearly shit myself when I understood this theatre ticket is going to cost me pricely.
Watching you get increasingly frustrated as Danil plays philosopher with the 3 people who could potentially the fate of the town through the quarantine measures instead of actually getting them to do their jobs is hilarious, especially with the genuine interest in it that the voice actors portray. Wonderful production, genuinely in love with the actors and the story. Thank you all so much for your hard work, I've watched your entire bachelor series something like 4 times now and listened to it at least half a dozen more during work shifts.
i come back to your videos every so often. they've got so much care and affection and Vision. they're ambitious in ways that Work, the editing of the sequence of events is seamless and effective, the voice acting is on point, and there's so much love in the handling of the themes and their emotional impact. I'm glad it's available to me. i love it.
The Nut, is also a seed so... it feels fitting as a Focus. And such a whimsically mundane little vessel for something as large feeling as a soul, But a child's mind is unique like that
without getting too into it, my heart sank the moment you talked about your relationship with the guitar. I've made art for pretty much my entire life, but certain events of this year have made the idea of picking up a pencil again insurmountably heavy for months now. Don't worry, I'm just as sure the drive to create will never leave me, but I just wanted to say this insight probably found me at the exact place and time I needed it. I can honestly say both this game and the analysis you brought to it gave me so, so much to think about. thank you so much for doing these Ruby, and I wish you the best
I am so excited! Fell into a Pathologic Rabbithole after Hbombs masterpiece and luckily stumbled over your channel! Thank you in advance for all the hard work you and everyone who worked on this project put into it
I watched the 2001 adaptation of Waiting for Godot based purely off the strength of this intro and while I didn’t enjoy it too much, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it and I’m keen to see it on the stage. Thanks, CE!
I remember a Patreon post about how the original idea for this play was to actually do two playthroughs, I assume the first one is where Dankovsky is oblivious to his condition and the other is with him being aware about the real objective of the game. I got to say that I like this final realization better, with both Daniils merged into one by acting out different replies with take one and take two. And then replacing the order of the takes when the balance between the two characters shifts! Very neatly done.
Everyone has wonderful and true things to say on your productions (just binged all 3 pathologic videos in 3 days) and I just wanted to boost them first because you deserve these compliments so much, I enjoy my time here very much!! But my real reason for commenting is to say that I saw that Lil Cal in the final part. I saw him teleport to be kept in the frame. I hadn't thought of Lil Cal in literal years. And I see him. I acknowledge him. I am terrified.
Seriously this is a beautiful masterpiece and I am glad I could be a small silly element. I hope it connects with everyone as much as it did with me. Also the use of Mother, I'm Here(Zulf's theme) destroys me that song is wonderful.
I just want to say that I really appreciate the ending of the video. It gives me hope to countine moving forward and that even though I may never be able to feel good in the mind again when I was younger, I can reach all the places where I want to be if I try hard enough. I really appreciate a lot of your earlier videos like the dmc, persona, and eva videos. Those videos helped me through a lot when I was going through the most painful moments in my life and for that I really appreciate you. I know I don't really know you but I just can not express how thankful I am to have encountered your videos and your community.
Beckett also gave André the Giant rides to school, at least according to André. Because he was too big and needed a ride in his car. It sounds like something he'd do.
Ok this is an awesome video and I love it throughout -especially the meditation on Foci-, BUT now I need the "Hey you wanna hear how two actors arguing about Shakesphere caused a bunch of mass death" story
I know it's late and probably someone already posted il. but I, as a Russian, can say that Daniil understands what is happening to him, with some part of an inflamed and feverish consciousness. This can be understood even by what he says. the most notable, but untranslatable into English, is "After every Saturday comes Sunday". Sunday is not a sunny day for us, this word in Russian literally means the resurrection of Jesus, rebirth. Daniel says "I die every Saturday and am reborn again and again". And he still continues to do everything he can, a stubborn self-confident asshole butts with death on his deathbed and continues to mock familiar people in his head. love him
so i literally have the first two of your videos in a playlist, and I watch/listen to them almost everyday to help me sleep, after watching this in its entirety this will join the playlist and I shall continue to ingest pathologic content daily. thank you for giving me this new addiction. I await more performances with baited breath. Treat yourself. You deserve it
"...forced to listen to the guitar against their will..." I'll have you know, lady, that it was very much not against my will. You set those sails very nicely.
as soon as this appeared in my notifications i got so excited, your pathologic classic videos are my go to relax/comfort videos that i’ve watched in full dozens of times
Around 2:57:00 connected solidly with my feels in a completely unanticipated way. Didn't expect this video to hit on my fears and trauma. I'm glad you found your way back to making music, and I'm sorry for your loss.
I have extremely complicated feelings about death and seeing Daniil talk about it in his condescending manner is always a bit like listening to teenage me. It is embarrassing. But also very nostalgic. Thank you once again for your incredible work, everybody.
Thank you so much for making this series. I can’t describe the amount of enjoyment I’ve gotten no matter how many times I rewatch. You and the whole cast do such an incredible job.
the algorithm summoning circle worked, because i suddenly got this suggested to me yesterday now having watched the first two videos, and finished this one, i'm really, really happy it did get suggested because this is an amazing video series! thank you for making these!
I said it once and I’ll say it again, this format formula you have concocted here is unmatched in terms of execution. I really, really hope you keep up this style of content. I will support, support, support! ❤❤❤
I went to see a Beckett play back when I did theatre! I don't remember what it was called, but it was about some guys trapped in a bunker. Very existential, very repetitive, very "pointless", people talking in circles, the stage literally WAS a circle ...very Beckett Edit: just got to the end of the video (I've been watching it in sections) and ayyy the play I saw is your favourite play! I remember that trash can lady she was the best character. Time to eat some biscuits
Daniil has always struck me as deeply tragic in a way the other characters aren't exactly, because not only is the whole death cure likely never going to exist, but if he did succeed...would it actually make anything better? A world without death will rapidly run out of space for new life. And if it's only for a chosen few? A person who cannot die wouldn't stop being human, exactly, but they would stop being an animal. The drawbacks of immortal rulers and mortals being ruled are so obvious they're a cornerstone of scifi and fantasy alike. We cannot move forward without losing the past, in a very literal sense.
Would love some historical theater videos. I didn't have an interest in theater until being introduced to Pathologic, and finding out my husband's aunt and uncle do theater related work. Love the light you shine on these plays that most folks never heard of, but they influenced so much media we know today. Wonderful cameos at the end there too
Only after dozens of viewings did I finally catch the Chekov's Gun joke at the opening stage. Ruby's videos are so cram jammed full of references, I could (and clearly have) watch them for years and not get them all.
Since I missed the first half of this performance on premiere day, I'm rewatching it now, and it just hit me how the way Daniil talks to Sticky in the morning reminds me of the worst doctor I ever went to - a man who, when I told him that I was there because I had an ear infection, an affliction I have chronically, said "I'll be the judge of that" like it wasn't MY body we were talking about. Anyway, that is where I am now, and I look forward to the rest later.
You've all done a fucking fantastic job on this one. The sound effects, the music OMG the voice acting some of the best I've heard you'd all put multi million dollar productions to shame. While watching this, several times I was genuinely afraid and the characters now voiced from the game brings so much more to this story. I love your work and I hope you all continue with these productions. Edit: Also WTF is the Shakespeare riots? And love you Sul and Playhead!!
"Just kidding, You've watched all of them at lease thrice already haven't you?" I was somewhat expecting shade, not a personal attack! geeze... and yes, I'll probably watch them again aftershutupdamnit.
i missed this video when it came out but i watched it at exactly the right time tonight. thank you. the effort you put into these videos has not gone unnoticed, and the impact is incalculable. some days like today, i feel like Daniil giving a literal heart to a tragedian in a bleak, disturbing misinterpretation. but even in those moments i am alive to be able to experience the embarrassment of a misunderstanding, no matter how seemingly horrifying it feels in the moment. even in tragedy, i am alive to experience tragedy. and in happiness, i will be alive to experience it too. again, thank you. ♡
The internet is a beautiful place. Every time I crave new Pathologic content someone delivers it. Even better if it’s from a content creator I enjoy. Thank you for the great video
Holy crap this was good. After all this time, finally, a video that successfully got my ADHD friend group to pay attention to it when unexpectedly sprung on them during a hangout. You've done what even Eyepatch Wolf and Jacob Geller couldn't do in my social circle, couldn't even get them to watch the Space Jam 2 thing, wow 12/10
I see him just muttering to himself 'come with open heart, come with open heart... I'll show this fuckers what for."
He was SO PROUD OF HIMSELF TOO
Daniil is the fucking *worst* and I love it
To be honest, this whole town and especially the Mask Theater's troupe do love to mix literal and figurative to the point you're willing to try anything.
But yes, Daniil coming back with a sliced-up heart to show to the people asking for him to be more empathetic is *chef's kiss*
He is tired and #dying#, let him have some braincell free moments, the poor little bastard. Truly a prickly brick

@@tieardragon4919 the size of a corn pellet relative to a crow is a substantial meal. Consider the amount of corn as well!
So to recap:
Daniil is a character from a Russian video game, who later finds out he is nothing more than a vaguely anthropomorphic children's toy, and in this story he is stuck in a time loop where he must address themes of death, and free will, and religion, but mostly death.
Bachelor Daniil Dankovsky is literally a "Russian Doll"
He’s also full of himself, like a certain quote which escapes me right now
@@TryinaD If you remember, please share. These pop culture allusions need to be properly catalogued.
This may be the intended metaphor. Though I doubt it because this word play works only in English. We don't call anything "a Russian doll" in Russia you know. It's matryoshka.
@@katherinemeta8616 "Russian Doll" is a netflix show. And technically, the main character in that show isn't even Russian. I think she's Czech?
@@heathercalun4919 I know. The show is named after the special kind of doll known in the West as Russian doll. No chance the show from 2019 being an inspiration for Marble Nest as well. Never mind though I already see it's not what you meant.

Skye as the Bachelor is really an underated talent I think. The way he's able to walk the fine line between being extra enough to be Daniil and doing so credible a performance is mind blowing to me
My headcanon is that Daniil lost his father and that's why he's so obsessed with death. I think he was initially just a curious child obsessed with beetles of all things, the item description for the beetle in marble nest is
"I used to collect these as a kid. Left the collection with my father."
This to me means he left behind his childlike curiosity when his father died.
Awesome theory
Which resonates with the death of Artemy's father...
I love the little retakes when Daniil is being either way too nice or too much of the prickly prick that will bury us all.
"I have misinterpreted the tragedians" followed by the Eric Andre "we'll be right back" sting is comedy. fucking. GOLD! I love this production so much, thank you
1:24:59 for those who want to relive that glorious moment.
he sounds so crestfallen too, outstanding work by the Daniil voice actor.
The fact he finds a panacea so soon, just to immeadiatly loose it, is such a crushing metaphore.

It does indeed mean that. Named after resurrection of Jesus.
did anyone else forget that "marble" is a type of building material or was i the only one picturing a bird's nest full of marbles (as in small glass spheres) for at least two-thirds of the video...?
Adore this
Personally I always saw Danil as a way for the kids to get back at the world. Danil is a doctor who pushes the strengthes of modern medicine, and yet his academy is destroyed and when talking to the powers that be he's called the villain. The doctors couldn't save their grandfather, so a doctor was made their villain, punished throughout.
@@megadude967 that would explain why Danil is clowned on so much, regardless of whether you’re playing as him or not across both games.

There is for a nostalgic happiness in Portuguese, “saudade”

I still can't get over Daniil's Amelia Bedelia logic with the heart. Like, bestie, you didn't need to take it THAT literally
I. Am. So. Pumped.
I hope to witness a haruspex play-through one day as well.
we all yearn for Artemy, I can only hope that our longing will be satisfied one day

@@nautil_us thank you! Did not know this
In the meantime, waiting until Ruby organizes a play around the Haruspex storyline in Patho2, SulMatul did a play through you can watch.
My money's on Grotowski, but I also think Sarah Kane may appear at some point
I think Pirandello would fit quite well, especially for the changeling
Thank you for mentioning how critical Suzanne was to Beckett's success. Behind every successful man there's a woman arranging and enabling the success, for real
Even if, in Ruby's case, the woman behind the man is herself.

Very glad someone picked up on that track choice~
The cane hitting the stage sound is so satisfying. Thank you Ruby.
I am so incredibly happy someone appreciates the small touches ^^
Ruby being the one to deliver the “man is finite” line is something that can actually be so gender
Well, the video says it better
the fellow traveller, with whom he plays dice every day. Poetic
I had a cool aunt too.
(not to mention, burnout's just.. a goddamn painful state.)
this video in particular meant a lot to me right now, so just.. an extra thank you. here's to continuing existing.
That " rich and thick" line made me howl like an absolute lunatic, holy fuck.
“The most handsome man I’ve ever seen”
*summons Super Eyepatch Wolf*
Marat and Dora stuck out like a sore thumb to me playing the marble nest. especially their last dialogues 2:10:50
it feels so spontaneous for them to say “While you’re with us, there is still hope.

I love how Daniil responds to the tragedians saying he doesn’t have a heart by taking it extremely literally. he’s just like me fr
" ya I *know* I fucked up the french pronunciations....but here's the thing"
"I. Do not. Care"
"It's very funny to upset the French and I make no apologies for it. If they don't like it they can overthrow my government about it"
I literally laughed so hard my cousin walked in to the room to check up on me
You are an absolutely phenomenal analytical essayist, I hope you know that.

Thank you ^^
Spoiler about the clocks
The save system actually creates the tensest mechanically moment in the Haruspex route.
Oh man I just rewatched the original videos the timing of this popping up is perfect. Very excited for this
Same!! Can't wait!
The use of "It's Just A Burning Memory" from The Caretaker was CHOICE. Phenomenal storytelling on your part!
Daniel: Can't anyone think for themselves in this town?!
Also Daniel: You fool! Why did you do that?!
I love sticky so much :( he’s just trying to help and he’s so earnest. :((
Beckett also gave André the Giant rides to school, at least according to André.
And he still continues to do everything he can, a stubborn self-confident asshole butts with death on his deathbed and continues to mock familiar people in his head. love him
marble nest hits me in a special place. i do wildlife care. suffered a very painful loss the other day. thank you.
of all the fuckin gags. i was NOT expecting a 'peter stamatin buttchugs twyrine' reddit post
fucking.. chef kiss.
so i literally have the first two of your videos in a playlist, and I watch/listen to them almost everyday to help me sleep, after watching this in its entirety this will join the playlist and I shall continue to ingest pathologic content daily. thank you for giving me this new addiction. I await more performances with baited breath. Treat yourself. You deserve it
I have the same thing ! Lmao
"...forced to listen to the guitar against their will..."
I'll have you know, lady, that it was very much not against my will. You set those sails very nicely.
as soon as this appeared in my notifications i got so excited, your pathologic classic videos are my go to relax/comfort videos that i’ve watched in full dozens of times
The master plan from the start was to get the kiss from SulMatul. You can't change my mind. XD
Around 2:57:00 connected solidly with my feels in a completely unanticipated way. Didn't expect this video to hit on my fears and trauma.
I'm glad you found your way back to making music, and I'm sorry for your loss.
As a very average french citoyen, I was just looking for another governement to overthrow, merci Madame.
Un Français sous une vidéo analyse de Pathologic ! Ça fait plaisir !
I have extremely complicated feelings about death and seeing Daniil talk about it in his condescending manner is always a bit like listening to teenage me. It is embarrassing. But also very nostalgic. Thank you once again for your incredible work, everybody.
duuude, the "having the bull in your dreams means its prophetic" is just like tje cosmic owl in adventure time :D fascinating
Thank you so much for making this series. I can’t describe the amount of enjoyment I’ve gotten no matter how many times I rewatch. You and the whole cast do such an incredible job.
the algorithm summoning circle worked, because i suddenly got this suggested to me yesterday
now having watched the first two videos, and finished this one, i'm really, really happy it did get suggested because this is an amazing video series! thank you for making these!
I said it once and I’ll say it again, this format formula you have concocted here is unmatched in terms of execution. I really, really hope you keep up this style of content. I will support, support, support! ❤❤❤
I cried. I cried hard. I don't know what else to say. Thank you. Once again, this was incredible.
Same here. Same here.
I went to see a Beckett play back when I did theatre! I don't remember what it was called, but it was about some guys trapped in a bunker. Very existential, very repetitive, very "pointless", people talking in circles, the stage literally WAS a circle ...very Beckett
Edit: just got to the end of the video (I've been watching it in sections) and ayyy the play I saw is your favourite play!
Thank you for watching!!
"Just kidding, You've watched all of them at lease thrice already haven't you?"
I was somewhat expecting shade, not a personal attack! geeze... and yes, I'll probably watch them again aftershutupdamnit.
the voice acting in all of these videos is so perfect
i missed this video when it came out but i watched it at exactly the right time tonight. thank you. the effort you put into these videos has not gone unnoticed, and the impact is incalculable.
some days like today, i feel like Daniil giving a literal heart to a tragedian in a bleak, disturbing misinterpretation. but even in those moments i am alive to be able to experience the embarrassment of a misunderstanding, no matter how seemingly horrifying it feels in the moment. even in tragedy, i am alive to experience tragedy. and in happiness, i will be alive to experience it too. again, thank you.
The tragedian voice is the absolute best addition to Pathologic canon ever
