NO NEED to remove glove box or trim panel. I did mine tonight in literally 10 minutes including vacuuming the debris left inside the filter box. I'm not small, but was able to get on my back under the glove box and access the area. EASY fix and saved $$$$.

As others have pointed out, it is not necessary to remove the glove box. If you watch the video through, you will see the location of the filter door. If you remove the console trim panel, you will have access to the filter compartment. Squeeze the filter at the top and the bottom and feed one end into the slot. Push it on in and it will expand to its original shape and do its job! The video is very helpful for actually locating the filter compartment and how the panel door works.

The replacement in the video CAF1348P is on sale at AutoZone for 7.29 right now! Even at the regular price, this only took ten minutes: 2 minutes to get the panel off, the door open and the filter removed. 8 minutes to get the new filter in and figure out how the frickin' compartment door clicks back in. Save money. Do it yourself!

Good video. Thanks. I found it easier to disconnect the power connectors to the Valet and Light and remove the glove box completely so that I could climb down into the foot well to visually see what I was doing. Also, when putting the cabin filter lid back on, because the filter fits flush to the rim, I pushed the filter lid tab down firmly to secure it. If I didn't, with a little pressure the filter lid would pop back off. For anyone doing this for the first time. THIS IS NOT HARD. Just take 30 minutes of your time to slowly work through it, getting the old filter out is the longest part. If you shape the new filter like an "hour glass" by squeezing the middle and angle the new filter into the hole, it quickly slides in. Just remember to firmly press down on the tab to make sure the cap is secured.

Thanks for posting. I just used your video to removed the glove box and replace the cabin filter of my wife's 2009 Nissan Maxima. Your video was especially helpful in locating all of the screws. The dealership wanted $150. I spend $10 on the filter and an hour of my time.

Eric Koopmans i couldn't help but to ask this question. REALLY 150 for replacing a 8-10 filter???? that's insane, i used to work at few tire shops but the most they would ever charge was usually 20-30 max, the bosses always made the point of telling the sales people to sell at for as much as reasonably possible depending on customer which i thought was B.S but anyhow they said if you can get double of what it cost the shop to buy the filter which usually would run anywhere between $3-$15 depending on the car then you did well so be flexible, the good and understanding and not greedy sales guys would usually look at the customers invoice and if they had already done other work then usually they would throw it in there no charge but i can not remember seeing an invoice for a cabin filter more that 18-$20 although years later i watched my mom pay a mechanic $88 for a cabin filter, i had no clue what the transaction was all about until later when we picked up the van and drove off the lot, had i known we were there for that i would of saved us a cool $

He did not reinstall the cover plate correctly. The tab on the leading edge of the cover plate came loose and pulled away from the opening when he pushed in the bottom tab. Also, when he removed the old filter it appears a portion of the cardboard edge was missing. If it is still inside the housing it could be sucked up inside the blower unit. What I do is to put duct tape on the outside edge of the new filter covering the end and about 1 inch of the top and bottom edge. Make your own tabs so when you remove the cover plate you can pull the filter down from the top and then from the bottom. Much easier to remove the old filter this way; especially for me, an old retired mechanic with a fused right wrist.

I haven't seen the other similar videos, but I thank you for taking your time making this one. If any of you are trying to do this, it's pretty hard to get your neck inside there, especially if you're more on the heavy side. It took me 40 min approx to do this on my 2011 Altima. I broke the plate that covers the filter in place, googled it and people just said to duct tape it which is what I did. Saved myself $30 in process. I probably could've had Jiffy Lube do it for me to save me the stress but it's good to fix your own things too!

Thanks for this. Had my Nissan in at the dealership for inspection and this was "recommended" for replacement...but for $88.00! (Oh and $45 for the regular Air filter in the engine which is maybe a 45-60 second job?) This replacement was new to me, it's a tight squeeze and a little tricky especially the first time but very doable. Removing the glove box, the latch - very simple. Putting that latch back in place - noticed you had a some trouble also - that seemed like the hardest part of this entire job...lol Anyway...thanks again for the video, you were very helpful!

Thanks for posting. I did mine today. My filter was as dirty as yours. 142 000 km / 88 750 mi. I won't leave it as long next time.
When I put the filter in it had a crease in the outer edge. I tried to push it in further and work it up and down but it wouldn't take. I figure it's in there... Also I didn't bother clipping the wire back in,since I will just have to remove it next time.

  • @brianfisher6605

Thank you for the video. You seem to have the air flow pointing to the rear of the vehicle, with the tab at the bottom. Other websites say for the cabin air filter arrow to point to the firewall of the vehicle. This is my first time. It took me a long time to actually remove the filter. Removing the glove box was a piece of cake. I had to have 2 tries to remove the filter. It must have taken an hour. I had to lay on my back and have my wife lift up the glove compartment so that I would have my head close to the air filter with 2 arms up. Nissan should have the same system as other cars. This removing of the glove box is nuts.

In my 2011 Nissan Altima, the cabin air filter is on the left side in the very back. It is easier to remove the filter with the glove box off. But some people can remove the filter with the glove box on....But you have to adjust the passenger chair all the way back and then be on your back with your legs resting over the top of the backrest..
You also have to remove the left side panel to get to the cabin air filter.

nice video. when replacing the filter and you pull on the tab, it usually breaks if its old. alternate way to get it out is get an old hanger and make a hook to grab it and pull it out. no point in worrying about it ripping since you are replacing it anyway.
    Great video! thanks for sharing.

That is a good suggestion. It took me a long time to remove the cabin air filter, about 1 hour. I like your idea. I did it about April 25, 2021 in Saskatchewan. Then I had to wait a few days for the weather to warm up in Saskatchewan. Finally it warmed up enough on April 29, 2021 for me to be outside putting in the new cabin air filter. It is such a hard job. I still have to put the cover on. That is why I watched the video again. I do not know how I did it. If people say that it is an easy job, they are either crazy or lying.

Good video. I had a 2010 Altima 2.5S and felt the same pain to change the cabin filter every time. Some people said you the filter cab be changed without removing the glove box. Yes. you can do it by pulling the old filter out but I feel it was hard to push the new filter into the slot evenly cause the slot opening is smaller than actual filter width and hard to make it flat behind the glove box.

Holy Cow, I was trying not to pull the glove box out but since the filter is much larger than the cover which is only 7 inches...are these guys crazy...makes me feel like i'm going to damage the filter...grrrrr

How often do you charge your cabin air filter?

Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr again! At least this is what you think at the time. I did it April 29, 2021. It is April 29th, 2021. One needs the spongy kind of cabin air filter. Not all cabin air filters are created equal for this car.

The 02-06 generation Altimas were so much easier. I could literely remove the filter in about 30 seconds. Same goes for the Sentra and Maxima models from the early to mid 2000 models. Now Nissan tucks them away further in the dash.

relatively easy compared to the Nissan qashqai, where the whole pedal assembly has to come out every service. Nicely made engineers for those mechanics :/

Overall good video but at eight minutes 20 seconds I'm calling BS. Your cover is just sitting there loose when you put it back together. Other than that it was helpful.
