    Hey, FastFix!
    We appreciate you using one of Microgard's filters in your instructional video!
    We represent O’Reilly as their filter manufacturer for their Microgard cabin air filter products. We take pride in the products and services we bring to them. We appreciate your feedback on their product, and we would like to point out a few things about the video:
    The filter shown in your video from Microgard is their particulate filter, not their HEPA filter. Microgard’s HEPA filters are packaged in a green box with “HEPA” marked on the front of the packaging. Additionally, the material of the HEPA filters features a gray and white side and 5 layers of filtration.
    The OEM filter you replaced isn't a carbon-infused filter. Rather, the gray appearance in the old filter is due to the accumulation of dust and other particles that have been filtered out before it enters the cabin.
    Our cabin filters have been tested in an independent testing facility following ISO's cabin filter standards to ensure that you get quality filtration with our products.
    Our filters are manufactured in ISO-certified cabin filter facilities for quality assurance.
    The Microgard filter you had in the video is a USA-made filter. We take pride in the fact that all of our HEPA cabin air filters as well as 90% of our particulate and carbon filters are made in the USA.
    Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

      Hello and thanks for writing me regarding the Microgard Cabin Air Filter used in this video. After reviewing the footage, I absolutely agree with you: This is not a HEPA filter as stated in the video. Remembering back to this video, I recall the parts guy being confused at the two different types and I think he gave me the incorrect filter. I should have realized that when installing, but you'd be surprised how these things get past you when creating videos. I will pin your comment to the top of this video and I'll also let viewers know this is not a HEPA filter via the Description. Unfortunately, UA-cam doesn't allow me to edit existing videos in order for me to insert text alerting viewers to the mischaracterization of the filter, however I'll do some research to see if there's a way for me to edit. Accuracy is very important to me and I appreciate you taking the time to bring this to my attention. Have a fantastic day!

    Thank you for the helpful hints. It really helped to bow the edge of the upper corner when sliding it in. For me, the most difficult part was getting the tab to move to get the cover off. It was stuck. Finally, I grabbed a pair of pliers and gave it a good yank. It came off! You were right that it is a job in cramped quarters, but thanks to your video. I did it!

    Thansk so much for the video! Your video is so great to inform us that we don't have to detach any other parts to replace the filter. Some other videos tell me to deinstall the passenger cabinet. I followed your instruction and replaced my Murano cabin air filter successfully. I spent quite some time to install back the cover. Finally I found out that some part of the filter was not all inside the socket. I could not see the place so I had to use fingers to touch and feel. Once the filter is completely inside the box, then installing the cover was easy. Sweated a lot but worth it.

    I'm thinking a Nissan engineer got smoked by a mechanic one day, and this is his way of getting back at all mechanics. Think how easy changing cabin filters is in most other vehicles, then try this one. For me, it's actually harder to get the old one out, particularly if it's a very stiff charcoal impregnated filter. You will end up with scraped fingers getting the old one out. And the old filter will be wrecked. I use a small 6" pick with a right angle to pull the old filter out about 1/4". Then use needle-nose pliers to pull it out more until I can grab it with my fingers. Getting the new one in is also difficult. I often end up with a slight fold in the right side, but there's no real way of straightening that out without removing (and probably wrecking) the new filter. In an otherwise stellar vehicle, you wonder what manager looked at the cabin filter replacement procedures and said, "Yes, this is exactly what we need."

    • @FastFixYouTube
      @FastFixYouTube  Рік тому

      🤣🤣🤣 exactly right! If I go conspiracy on this one, I’d say they didn’t take the time to make it easy and therefore this filter change is “best done” by a service professional who will charge $50 labor or more. 🤦‍♂️

    Great video. I went to do this on my car and the tab to lift up on to remove the plastic cover snapped off with no force at all! I had to get a small flathead screwdriver to pry into the spot and force what remained of the tab up. It took a considerable amount of force to get it to pop out but it eventually did. Putting it back after also took all my might with the screw driver to get it to pop back into place. Was a fun time. Lol

      Hahahaha, yes it’s always a lot of fun! I was surprised how “easy” it was in my situation, then hearing the horror stories of others…maybe I got lucky and next time will be a PIA.

    Used this video to replace the cabin filter on a 2016. If you are able to lay on your back and angle your head in that corner, it's a lot easier to see what you're working with. Removing the filter and replacing it was easy enough. But putting on the cap was annoying. The upper end of the cap has a hard slanted tab, what he doesn't mention is that the cap has two rectangle recesses, on either side of that slanted tab. If you are able to look straight up in that corner you will see two tabs which stick out. Right there is the trick to sealing up the filter housing. As those tabs slide right into those rectangular holes on the cap itself. Use a small enough angle to snag those tabs on the cap then apply even pressure up until you could clasp the bottom into place. Double check and it's perfectly sealed up.
    Knowing that makes it so much easier. With that being said, if you have back issues or neck issues, don't try what I did, as it is an awkward position and will put strain on you. Also the space in the passenger area can be cramped, use a towel or pad if you lay on your back. Use your phone camera to take a video, if you can't maneuver in such a place, remember it's a tool as well, this can help to get a visual of the cramped space you are working with. Happy DIYing.

    This video gave me PTSD as it reminded me of the time my Ch-47 had to make an emergency landing at Ft Brag. One of the hydraulic lines broke and it was accessed by a tiny out of the way hatch, and the fittings were just out of reach. Had to have a Blackhawk fly from Ft. Eustis Va. to bring me a tool to reach the broken line.
    Glad I watched this video, my local dealer told me the glove box had to be removed for this filter to be removed. They're not honest and I stopped letting them service the vehicle as they don't follow Nissans service guidelines.

    Incomplete advice ? I guess some more care is needed for better car care. How do you know all the debris gets removed and the drain is not clogged ? Just replacing the filter is only 1/2 the job done. SNOW JOB. Remove glove compartment for proper access first ? Get vacuum in there with a 1/2 inch somewhat rigid plastic air line 30-40" long, tip cut in a 45deg angle to suck up the debris. Go in and out some debris will plug the tip. Tons of leaves get stuck there. I removed 1-3 square inches of leaves and crap. Watch out to not scratch the evap fins doing it. Just vacuum the bottom drain tray of the cabin filter frame, remove the bottom drain hose and put a rag or cup under the drain spout, squirt some soapy water inside the compartment and see what comes out, also push some water down the pipe to see if it is dripping out under the car.
    Now your compartment is clean and now one can attempt to install the cabin filter.
    You think I'm crazy - you are right but see for yourself.
    Because it is in such a confined space put your cell phone camera there and check on your pictures for yourselves. What a nice Murano ride - and such a hideous dealer money maker ugrrrrrr.teeth grinding... design, eh.

    This is helpful, however, I disagree that it is very easy. In your video you actually do not complete the hardest part, namely getting the cover back on properly. Any tips on how to engage the top hook in this very tight space would be greatly appreciated.

Found the access cover was not engaged at the top. So happens I left the vehicle running and the blower was running. Could hear sound change when I moved the access cover, it still was latched on the bottom. Got the cover unlatched and pulled the filter, got a part number and knocked some debris from it while I had it out. Think I experienced the same issue as the service Technician that had changed it previously. I was not able to engage the upper portion of the cover and get the lower catch engaged!! Its like the fixed portion of the catch is not positioned correctly?? I got the upper end of the cover engaged, but am not able to ge the lower catch to snap in place!! Thanks. Would not have figuered it out on my own. But it was NOT easy. I’d give it a 4/5. You have to “seat” the filter once you get it in. It’s not a matter of simply slidinng it in. Which means unseating it to remove, which was a bitch. Had to use hemostats to get ahold of it, then pretty much destroyed it pulling it out. Then getting the retaining clip back on was also a bitch. Would have been a lot easier for a child with child sized hands.

    Considering this has to be on a regular basic I would consider it closer to 3 out of 5 for difficulty. My hand is all scratched up and I can't even tell if it went in correctly cause it needs to be jammed in so badly...

      Hey there. Nice! 2020 Muranos are awesome. I’d say yes, I’ll probably do a video like that when the time comes. I usually video all maintenance I do on this vehicle. Thanks for the question!

      Do you know the life of CVT Fluid? My Wife's 2011 Murano has been a champ for the year we have owned it. Ive changed oil and rotated tires 3 times. Ive changed cabin filter twice. I have changed all wiper blades once. But i never thought of the CVT fluid. It still runs amazing with no lights on the dash. Just wondering for when I would need to do it.

    • @amerigovespucci4076
      @amerigovespucci4076 3 роки тому +2

      @@GØÄT_MÄN_0526 The service manager at the local Nissan dealer told me every 3 years or 36k miles, which ever comes first.
      Here's why: The V6 in the Murano makes lots of power and all that power can make the CVT work harder and hotter.
      The water pump in the V6 is buried deep within the engine, replacement is labor intensive. Fresh coolant keeps bearings and seals
      clean and properly lubricated.

    • @FastFixYouTube
      @FastFixYouTube  3 роки тому +1

      @@GØÄT_MÄN_0526 hello. The life of the fluid depends on how the vehicle is driven, environmental factors, etc... it’s a good idea to have it checked and tested every 30k. That doesn’t mean change it necessarily, but testing the deterioration will give you an idea of when/if it needs changed. The thing to do is to take it to the dealer. I know it sucks, but they’re the best place to have this done. You can do it yourself, but call a dealer first and determine if doing it yourself will have negative effects on your warranty should you have one. Thanks for the question!
