But was it as good as you remember? That is the question that this video seeks the answer
Has the original 2005 release of Battlefront 2 stood the test of time, and can it stands on its own two feet against its identically named nephew?...
Wind the clock back over 18 years - LucasArts are a goliath of game design and are looking to become a publisher, utilizing the efforts of external teams - rather than constraining themselves to only in-house projects.
They approached a small troupe of developers based in Los Angeles named Pandemic...oh that name aged poorly.
Known only for creating sequels of previous Activision games, LucasArts tasked them with making a movie tie-in game for the up-and-coming Star Wars film.
The game plays it safe, with its use of Jedi and Vehicular combat - 2 parts of the Star Wars universe that always guaranteed some kind of success.
Around the same time, across the globe - an equally small team from Sweden revolutionize infantry-based multiplayer games - with Battlefield 1942.
A game that took the industry by storm.
Infantry, vehicles, and huge open maps all brought together to create a realistic war game that threw players into the best adaptation of World War 2 seen on a computer screen.
LucasArts, seeing the rise of a new genre, the billions that the Star Wars IP is making, an IP that has WAR in its name, and how Pandemic's recent game, also based on war, that already had vehicles, made a simple decision.
Pandemic were to make Battlefield, but with Star Wars.

Loved the video, but you seem to think the new battlefront 2 is as it was at launch. I imagine you haven't played it much since because a lot of people consider the new battlefront to be one of the best star wars games now. I'm glad they removed the lootboxes. The campaign is still the same tho.

My favorite part of Battlefront II is the sheer volume of combat FIRE that is on screen at all times. You can really tell that there's a battle going on. Just look at the average footage of Kashyyk Beach. Blaster bolts flying, artillery landing, grenade shrapnel, vehicles exploding, turrets firing, smoke obscuring your vision. There is SO MUCH happening visually. Battlefront II is probably the most immersive Star Wars game ever made because of it.
Just imagine what they could have done for a battlefront 3. Expanded space battles? A playable death star trench run?
It actually exists in an unfinished form, and it has pretty fun space to ground combat, despite being far from finished

RIP Battlefront 3. I remember looking forward to it coming out just to hear it canceled. It stung almost as bad as hearing republic commandos sequel canceled. What games they would have been:(
what annoys me is I remember when Star wars battlefront was being made the new one everyone was like yes a remaster that's all they needed to do, Improve the graphics improve the AI add in some more planets and levels and done. Battlefront 3 the greatest game that never was.
Pandemic actually had 2 final gifts.
Modding tools so we could make our own scripted, voiced. Campaign missions, custom units, weapons, designs, vehicles etc. Tools for maps, ambience and all of that such as well as the ability to even make custom conquest galactic campaigns and gamemodes.
Really great to see this game talked about to this day. Especially when the person uploading it puts actual effort into the video. Thanks for getting me to pick up the game again. I really want to see more out of this channel.

I have literally never not had it installed.
I to this day still play Battlefront 2 from 05. It adds so much to star wars by itself but it especially shines when you make it as hard as possible and restrict yourself to only the basic units. I have so much more respect and empathy for the clones than I did prior thanks to this game. Attempting to exterminate the jedi 20 times and finally succeeding with a kill from the grave grenade that cut off the "defeat" dialouge with the success noise and a victory literally made me cry. I was also plastered, but still.
My favorite thing about this game is the massive amount of mods it has.

I still have a functioning PS2 with a copy of the game, if I could somehow get mods working in that game, I may just have to sink dozens of hours again into this masterpiece.

Haha yeah, the Hero’s were always overpowered as hell, but I feel that makes sense when you’re playing a Jedi/Sith.
I have a soft spot for the first one too, some of the levels are better and the concept is more "pure" because you can't play Jedi
Jedi hunting was more fun in 1 tbh, bottomless pit, roadkill, park on them directly... Nothing else worked
There has got to be at least one copy of an unfinished battlefront 3 floating around somewhere and I aspire to get it. This game was my childhood. I got it when it came out for Christmas and I absolutely loved it and still play it to this day
Man thinking of the moments on this game bring back some amazing childhood memories. As a kid in elementary school, every single day I couldn’t wait to come home and play battlefront 2. The weekends were even more exciting because my best friend would come over and we would play battlefront 2 all day and night. I wish I could travel back in time just for one day 😞

Wow with just those first few seconds of music and voiceovers and I was RIGHT back in there, a clone in the 501st born, bred, and trained for the war that molded and harrowed us as troopers and formed the Galactic Empire.

I got star wars battlefront 2 (2019) on my laptop and it barely ran due to my laptops low ram but then I got 2005 battlefront 2 and I don't regret it I even decided to get the 2002 battlefront 1 to compare and both are evenly amazing in my opinion

This is my first and favorite star wars game
I was one of those guys that came at this game from battlefield 1942. I was curious when i first heard of this and grabbed the first on my ps2 and liked it. When the second came out its was a easy buy but man i fell in love with battlefront 2. The galaxy conquest mode was my jam. I easily put hundreds of hour into it. This game is one of the reasons i have like 20 ps2s setting around just to keep mine running as emulation is fine but nothing like playing it the way its ment to be.
Battlefront is truly a gem, thank you for taking a look back at such an iconic game. And regarding the unrekeased battlefront 3 game, it was ported to psp as Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron. Also there is a team working on a project called Battlefromt 3 Legacy which is essentially modding the original concept for the unreleased game into the old battlefront 2
Yes! I totally forgot to mention that. I loved playing the demo for over and over on the PSP.
The fact that we finally got the joint battles (although not as epic as they could've been on PS3/360) was great.

We want Battlefront 3 😢😥😭 We all need it... the canceled Battlefront 3 looked amazing and it had new battlefield mechanics... The EA Battlefronts are failures... SW Battlefront is singleplayer story and Galactic Conquest... plus everything else is an amazing bonus :) We need to do something about Disney...😖

Yeah, I noticed later when watching some Battlefield 2 video that I accidentally channelled a little too much Act Man in this one, he's one of my fave UA-camrs, and I had forgotten ever watching his Battlefield 2 video when writing mine, but clearly, his video must have come through in my conscious lol.
If you haven't played the Saga and Legacy Edition's for the game stop what you're doing and download them now. Saga Edition makes the game modern with tons of new units, maps, vehicles, and game modes. Legacy Edition turns the game into the original Battlefront III ground to space combat, campaign, and all.
I played SWBF2 online on PS2 with the Wi-Fi adapter. You were correct when you said it wasn't as competitive, instead being more for fun. Nobody would rage and break their controller when they got killed in SWBF2, like they did in Call of Duty 4 for example. At least I hope not.
I wonder why that is. They aren't that dissimilar, are they? So why is it so much more irritating when you die in a Call of Duty game, than when you died in SWBF2

My kids played the reboot games first and didn't play the originals until a few years ago. They say the originals are definitely better. Nuf said.
Actually battlefront 3 is fucking epic. I own it on the psp. The game fucks. It's clearly much smaller scale in everything but seriously going from space to planet and planet to space was just so cool.

There’s still servers, there’s an average of like 20-30 people on usually. The servers just.. don’t work that well, it’s incredibly laggy.

I always thought Battlefront 2 was a little overrated. I prefer battlefront 1. Better maps, better atmosphere, and bigger battles with air battles as well! In bf1 the player count (offline) is 25v25 while in bf2 its 16v16 for console. Thats a big turn off, for me at least
Very true - battlefront 1 also had better graphics on Ps2 - at least it seemed like it did.
For me, the story mode and galactic conquest still make the second my fave, but you make some very good points, especially about the maps.
I need to agree too but if Pandamic had more time, then BF2 would have put more content in it
