@@Adi-nr9ud I think there’s always going to be a split between popularity underrated vs critically underrated even though strictly speaking, it SHOULD be the latter, because we live in a world where exposure opens up opportunities for these more mainstream albums to become more people’s favourites they can sometimes get an inflated rating critically unless they have a really dedicated fanbase like MF DOOM who essentially is only any kind of known out of sheer talent. Even so, it didn’t save him from being snubbed on something like Apple’s top 100. Mos Def has fans, but he doesn’t have the kind of hardcore following or steady release schedule like RTJ. He’s more like Common or Talib Kweli, of an era of backpack rap known to many people through features esp. Kanye features.
