  • What my 6 months baby ate for baby led weaning
    Carrot is another healthy choice to give to your baby when you cannot figure out what to cook or are running short on time as it is healthy and easy to cook
    To give an exposure to baby for different textures we offered it as a mash and in the form of finger food
    1.Wash, dry, and peel the carrots.
    2.Cut off the stem and root ends.
    3.Cut the carrots in half lengthwise for babies 6 months+ or thirds of carrot is long, length should be the same as your finger
    4.Place the carrots in a skillet or a wide microwave-safe bowl
    5.Add enough water to barely cover the bottom of the skillet or bowl. 6.Cover and steam the carrots until they are easily pierced with a fork
    7.Set aside 2-3 carrots for the child to try as finger food and mash the rest
    My focus is less on how much my baby is eating and more on exposing my baby to the art of eating
    DISCLAIMER: I am a first time mom and learning on the go, this is what I am doing for my child as per my understanding
    I am not an expert,please do not follow anything blindly and decide what works best for your baby

    Thank you for showing this! I was planning on offering both whole foods and purees, but hadn't even considered offering them at the same time 🤯

    I want to start but I’m so scared of choking. My baby just turned 7 months.

      You can keep semi mashed puree and feed the same to your baby but also keep some finger foods for him/her to explore
      You can start by very easy finger foods like rice balls which are squishy or mashed potatoes rolled into a ball
      The key is that any finger food served should be easily squished between fingers
      My baby also used to gag in the beginning , we have to be 100% vigilant during baby led weaning
      Even if you start with purées the transition has to be made by 10-11 months !

      You can give puree + put 1-2 finger size food for him to play and explore, babies will learn to eat eventually
      My baby also used to gag but it got better with time
      Also be always there when your baby is eating to differentiate between gagging and choking

    • @TheGoodFoodandLifestyle

      Some days I have boiled it and sometimes pressure cooked it with Dal as well as steaming carrots take a lot of time but from nutritional point of view experts say steaming is the best

    In a lot of videos, I see people mashing carrot in blender, so is this consistency okay for the baby?

    • @TheGoodFoodandLifestyle
      @TheGoodFoodandLifestyle  5 місяців тому +1

      If you are using blender you are making a purée which is fine for initial few days, from 7 months you can start thickening the food like mashed consistency and by 10-11 months should transition to finger foods , i never gave my baby purée like liquid paste , it was finger food or mashed with fork food, remember it should be finger soft ie if your press between fingers the food should get squished

    • @TheGoodFoodandLifestyle
      @TheGoodFoodandLifestyle  5 місяців тому

      And to answer if it is okay if the food is squishy and finger soft yes it is okay, baby can gag but they can do the same with purée also but if the baby is kept on purée for longer they find it very difficult to transition to normal food, my baby has always been on this kind of food so yes from experience it is okay 😊

    How long to steam? I am following same procedure but its taking more than an hour. Can you pls advise?

    • @TheGoodFoodandLifestyle
      @TheGoodFoodandLifestyle  8 місяців тому

      Carrots take a lot of time to steam ,so i cut them in very thin slices, you can try them cutting in thin, small strips
      after that i started cooking them in Dal/Khichdi which i gave her, you can check on how to give dal short and boil carrot with dal so the nutrients from carrot are also not lost

    How long did you steam the carrots?

    • @TheGoodFoodandLifestyle
      @TheGoodFoodandLifestyle  9 місяців тому +1

      20-25 mins minimum but if i cut it more thinner takes lesser time, depends upon the thickness of the carrot strips

      Easily took me 30 mins also because this was a make shift steamer , then I started cooking it with dal or rice so that it is easily cooked and nutrients are retained
