  • This was filmed two days after the Scotty Moore at Air Studios, London. Marc could not attend but invited all of us to his show with the Notting Hillbillies at Ronnie Scott's. I was lucky enough to get Mark to talk about one of his heroes and how they came to meet. This was intended to be DVD extra material for the release of Scotty Moore In London...maybe someday.

    What an excellent Clip! Thank you for it. In the early '60s, I quite possibly drooled over that same guitar as MK in the very shop window ('Jeavons', Percy Street?), with exactly the same feelings of complete inaccessibility.
    Tyneside, I think of as the 'Nashville' the UK. It has bred, and still breeds, some very gifted players!

    MarK is such sensitive Music soul and still spectator of what Socially complexity has caused, even being a protagonist himself, you can sense through he sees from both sides not fully able as wasnt even Elvis himself to extricate himself of such turned much swampy to wade off. But his instincts are still on The Prize, of what Music meta heights are supposed to be reached to elevate us, liberate us into a higher plane for which as Bach or Handel knew well our Souls belong to, window glimpses to moments ahead in Paradise. Timeless, regardless notes and strophes tempo, no language or Nation, place, limitations. The Flow of the Universe.

    Didn't Scotty and Bill get elbowed out when Elvis started recording at RCA and Chat started playing on his records?

      The Colonel and RCA did not like them, but both Scotty and DJ played on many early 1960's recordings of EP.

      I believe 1 of the reasons for the split was money.

    • @Rick-zw7zv
      @Rick-zw7zv 3 роки тому +1

      @@bryanweis These guys were just rockabillies, they didn't have the chops to fit with the newer and more sophisticated songs he was doing in the 60's.

    • @Hattonbank
      @Hattonbank 3 роки тому +4

      @@bryanweis True. They started with EP in '54 but during 1956/7 when Elvis & the Colonel were raking in big money, the boys were still on their old money, still havimg to pay expenses and support families. The Colonel and the"sophisticated" seniors at RCA thought that they were unskilled country hicks and did not want them around, and Elvis was not forceful enough in standing up for them against the Colonel. Elvis's recordings in 1958 includimng the epic June 10th session used RCA session musicians including the brilliant Hank Garland on guitar, but that clean sgharp spontaneous sund was never the same again.
      Scotty and DJ played on many of the post 1960 Elvis tracks for many years right up to the Elvis Special in 1968, but we never heard Scotty recreate that guitar sound of earlier days, or that machine gun drumming solos ala Hound Dog/Ready Teddy from DJ, but rock'n'roll effectively ended (chart wise) in late '59 to be replaced by more softer blander styles from the northern urbanite singers instead of those wild boys from down South (or mid west in the case of Chuck B)

    Fresh Air had a 15min archival interview with guitarist Scottie Moore today. He stopped playing for 25 years? And when he did an Elvis TV special, he couldn't remember his solos? Solos that many guitarists study and learn???
    Playing with Elvis from 1954 to 64, Terry asked if the money got better when Elvis became famous. 'No, not for us. It got a little better, but we still had to pay for our outfits, meals, and hotels. ' (bet they didn't get the girls, either)

      Scotty was rich and his life was set for him the MOMENT he met Elvis. Every person who made any kind of success with Elvis is immortal BECAUSE of ELVIS.

    Always nice to hear quality uploads that sound like a blender full of glitter.
    Please don't post if all you have is a file of background compression algorithm. Don't care how brilliant the speaker, or the subject of the discussion are; Some audio is not listenable, should simply be deleted.

      If you don't want to hear it, don't listen. I want to hear what Mark has to say about Scotty. If there is a better quality available, I prefer that one, but if not, this is better than nothing.
