It never fails to amaze & surprise me when I see something so gorgeous, created so long ago. We are made to believe that with all our technology and creature comforts today we are somehow so much more advanced than those that came before us - then you see something so amazing made of stone and you quietly zip it lol

There is an empty spot in the Athen's museum next to her sisters waiting for her to come back where she belongs

She belongs in the British Museum. All legally bought and paid for. Surely you wouldn't trust Europeans to preserve it! Greece is a flaming dystopia, corrupt from top to bottom. When it comes to inefficacy and corruption, the Mainland Europeans have us Brits totally outclassed. Amazingly.

@@opabinnier They were stolen from Greece. At the time, Acropolis was occupied by Turks only, so Greeks had no right on their pieces of history there. However, they are part of their civilization. Neither Turkish non British one. It is common sense Greeks never gave them to British. And the Parthenon was preserved in an remarkably perfect condition, as a temple, for 2000 years! only to be destroyed by the Venetians in the 17th century while they were fighting the Turks. And now there is also the new (with better conditions than the British) Acropolis Museum.

Didn't the turks blow everything up? They did obviously not appreciate it, so it is beneficial for human kind the British did, you should thank them, not criticize

Does the phrase "[person] was a pillar of ___" or "they're a pillar of the community" trace back to this? I've never thought of those phrases that way... Regardless, I'm enjoying being able to recognize doric / ionic columns. They are indeed graceful and lovely. :)

Fa uno strano contrapposto sentire parlare di arte greca con una lingua miagolosamente barbara e con le etimologie dal senso perduto!
