    Modes are easy! Here's how they work: explains how each note in the major scale has it's own corresponding scale called a mode. Scott spends the first 5 minutes introducing the modes, and the remaining 3 minutes singling out some of the more common modes and explaining their relationship to chord symbols.

      Ok now what do you do if in C# scale or the key of B scale??????

    • @ScottPaddock
      @ScottPaddock  6 років тому +3

      The exact same things as if you were in C. First mode would start on C# (major scale), second mode would start on D# (dorian minor), third mode would start on E#.... etc. Those keys are definitely more difficult to play because of the key signature, BUT a mode is a mode no matter what key you are in.

    The clearest, most straightforward explanation of modes and how to use them that I've ever come across. You are a gifted teacher, Scott - thank you!

    It’s as if some teachers don’t want you to know this information, isn’t it? Guarding the secret. I’ve played these for years but the manner in which you explain it is as clear as a bell. Nice work.

    Scott, these scales are awesome and make perfect sense to me. I thought about it before when I first received my Sax, one month ago. But never visualized running the 7 note scales and learning them. Thank you for pointing out that valuable lesson to me?

    Two books I found very useful:

    Santorella Publications
    "Miles Of Modes"
    Jamey Aebersold
    A big thankyou Scott!

    Thanks for the explanation. Youre right. This video and the other video of chord symbols do co-inside with each other. Take the major scale and playing it in multiple degrees leading to another mode name and the breakdown of the scale...man...thanks...will work it out in the lab...
