Modes are easy! Here's how they work: explains how each note in the major scale has it's own corresponding scale called a mode. Scott spends the first 5 minutes introducing the modes, and the remaining 3 minutes singling out some of the more common modes and explaining their relationship to chord symbols.

Wow... Awesome saxophone tutorial videos. I really like how straight to the point and clear your videos are. Your videos have been most helpful and I really appreciate you taking the time to make them. GoD BLeSs..!!!
Thanks Terrell!! Should have another one out by the end of the week.
Ok now what do you do if in C# scale or the key of B scale??????
The exact same things as if you were in C. First mode would start on C# (major scale), second mode would start on D# (dorian minor), third mode would start on E#.... etc. Those keys are definitely more difficult to play because of the key signature, BUT a mode is a mode no matter what key you are in.
The clearest, most straightforward explanation of modes and how to use them that I've ever come across. You are a gifted teacher, Scott - thank you!
Thank you!
I watched it again. You're so clear! Ive gotta do one of your courses!
This video should be seen in every music school, Scott you are a genius, in 8 minutes I learned more than I learned in years, thanks for your clarity in teaching and sharing your wisdom! Greetings from Argentina!
Thanks Juan!
It’s as if some teachers don’t want you to know this information, isn’t it? Guarding the secret. I’ve played these for years but the manner in which you explain it is as clear as a bell. Nice work.
Best explanation of modal theory on UA-cam....
Thanks Warren!!
Absolutely!
OMG I've spent years trying to understand modes and you explained it in less than 8 minutes!!!!! Thankyou so much 👍
Glad it helped!!
By far the best teacher on UA-cam, explains everything so clear! Not sure about your top in this one 😂

Scott you make this theory clear and easy to understand. I really appreciate what you put out here ,if you write an ebook or printed I would be the first to purchase or video lessons Thanks again
Scott, these scales are awesome and make perfect sense to me. I thought about it before when I first received my Sax, one month ago. But never visualized running the 7 note scales and learning them. Thank you for pointing out that valuable lesson to me?
Donnie W.
Thanks Donnie! You shoud check out my new Sax School - www.scottpaddocksaxschool.com
That REALLY is learning a scale! Crystal clear as usual.
Two books I found very useful:

A big thankyou Scott!
Thanks!! Great books.
For the first time, modes were clearly explained to me. Thank you.
No problem! Glad I could clear it up for you.
Thank you so much for explaining things in such a helpful, practical way!
That's the goal! So many people try to make it difficult. I try to simplify so that it is easy to understand and use :-).
Thank you for taking out time and give us stuffs for free. It would be great to have graphical fingerings beside your explanation. thumbs for video clarity.
Awesome tutorial, so easy to follow and understand. Finally I get it!
Thanks AJ!
Excellent Scott as usual. Could you do a video on improving your timing please. Many thanks

👍👍

Thanks!
Brilliant.
Thanks!
You are very good teacher! Thanks for this!!
Thanks!!
Easy to understand explanation. Simple is good. Thanks. When I was a kid, those names were sillily(a word?) Intimidating. It couldn't be more plain. Cool
Yeah, the crazy words definitely make it more intimidating before you dive into it.
Another good one scott, I feel I’m inching my way forward, thanks.
😊😊😊. Thanks!
Thanks for the explanation. Youre right. This video and the other video of chord symbols do co-inside with each other. Take the major scale and playing it in multiple degrees leading to another mode name and the breakdown of the scale...man...thanks...will work it out in the lab...
👍👍👍
Thank you!!!
