I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t. Most of it will find its way to the seams where it’s likely to dry out first. It’s not necessary but I would.
I'm keen to know how you are going to keep the Kik and Buffalo separate. It's a never ending battle, trust me!

Scalping buffalo is also a risky game to play in general as it has more top growth than root growth. It wouldhave to be a pretty tall "scalp"

Best thing you can do with newly laid turf is stay off it.
And stop checking dead spots for root growth lol. Definitely doesn't help em haha
