    Matt, Don't underestimate the value of your older projects. They really show your improvement has a wood worker and presenter. However, most importantly they are motivating for beginners.
    Keep up the excellent work! I look forward to your videos.
    Thanks!

    Hello Matt:
    The young Matt table was great. I also appreciate you took the time to respond to all or nearly all of the comments. I think I am 304. That takes a lot of time away from the shop but readers really really appreciate it, especially when they have a technical questions. Thanks again.

    I can not tell you how happy that made me see this video. When the years pass is very good look at what you've accomplished with your effort. In addition, this type of retrospective, always comes at certain stages of life, if you are tuned to occur. Not necessarily when you're respected and recognized by all, in silence, then we estimate much. We may not be your personal friends, but we are closer to you than you suppose. And it is obvious that the news of a second child moves other gears in the human mind and heart. Imagine when they will be adults, and see you as you were and how you evolved. A wonderful video, my affection. :)

    I love the fact that you didn't let your limitations at the time, tools and skill set, stop you from building a nice piece! This seems to be my biggest hang up, I expect perfection right from the start. I found this video to be inspiring!!

    I just started watching your videos a few weeks ago. I started with the first Shop Update and have completed from there to this point with a couple of detours to watch some builds (like your bandsaw mill). It has been a joy to see your younger self's skills and your continuous growth into an exemplary woodworker. I have built several projects through the years with limited tools and no training - so I started watching your channel and Essential Craftsman (a different set of skills) to learn. Thanks for sharing!

    The first time you used the card scraper in this video was one of the best shots I have seen for a card scraper. Most videos quickly show someone using it but rarely show the material as its being removed. Great video Matt.

    It's amazing to see what 5 yrs does to your woodworking skills and tools. I look at the 1st project I made at 16 yrs old (a pair of glass door bookcases) with the tools and skills I had, and I look at the floating ambrosia maple slab coffee table I made in January this year (now 25 yrs old) and my skills/tools I have acquired now. It's absolutely amazing.

    Very neat to see a young you. I like on how you commented on your dovetails not being so tight. To me, hand cutting dove tails would just kill me. I just would not have the patience for it.........especially knowing how quickly and accurately they can be cut with today's machines and jigs. Even though they were a little off, I still commend young Matt on a great effort. Let him know 5 years ago please.........and tell him not to fret.......he will get much better in only a few years.

    Dude... you are wearing my shirt "MTS" in the end. We hadn't even met yet.
    That was really fun to watch. I can see why Lindsay liked you. Not sure about now. 😋

    How accurate was the Jet planer/ jointer combo Matt?

    • @mcremona
      @mcremona  8 років тому

      It was perfectly fine for workpieces that were under 2' long. 3-4' long the stock would need to be reasonably flat already. Over 4' was beyond it's ability

    All that walnut... I'm jealous! :) That reminds me, I need to touch base with you sometime to see what you have for bowl blanks in various species laying around that you'd sell.

      I forgot to mention that this was the first time I had worked with walnut. I have a whole stack of blanks and more to cut.

    Hi thank you for sharing...... Would be interesting too see you do the exact same project now and same wood choices too.... GO 4 IT

    • @mcremona
      @mcremona  8 років тому

      That's a good idea, Phil. I'd be able to make that project faster now and it would have a lot more personality. My lumber selection is a little more stylized now than it was back then

      Thanks Mike! I bought that walnut wet and dried it myself. This was my first time using walnut

    Really fun to see you 5 years ago. A lot of your foundation was there. The things you pointed out and the way you explained them. YES... you have come a long way, but the raw material was there.
    How much Footage was there... I am betting a LOT. Was this the little Sony camera ?
    You looking through the legs of the final build is classic YOU. Look Forward to seeing you at WIA2016

      +MySaw thanks Bartee! There was around 3 hours of footage. About half that was me talking to the camera. This was all shot on my Canon 7d. Haha yeah I thought that was a bit funny too. See you soon!

    I like the hall table you built. I have a idea to build something similar but I want two lower shelves. One about 5 in from the floor and another in between. My challenge is fitting and cutting the lower shelves to meet the tapered legs? Any suggestions?

    It was a great video still! I can see what you mean about your progression since then too. Do you have any other old projects you could finish the video of for us?
