Old ones are solid bricks , just like the council slabs , I ran short of some so brought replacements same size , when I used my disc cutter it went through it like butter, when I cut the old slabs the grinder changed noises and slowed down. They don’t build them like they used to And that’s a true fact
Done a knock through in my house 2 skin 2.5 MTR high 6 metre wide them bricks are heavy as fuck certainly opened my eyes as a novice only knowing about modern bricks
@@supervhschannel4139 Houses, not bricks. I just bought some imperial LBC rustic antiques, totally different to some of the shite facing bricks you get nowadays
Imperial is about 9lb in weight.... as a hod i carry 12 imperial at a time... unless im going up ladders (just incase some is below me) and after a days graft.... you can feel the difference for sure!!!
The Victorian bricks on most of the houses around me in Northants are rock hard. Particularly the "commons" used for internal or backs of houses. Hand made and solid. Weigh a tonne each. You cannot drill into them. Even disc cutters struggle. Yes, some of our Victorian facing bricks are softer but they are in better condition than many modern bricks on much later houses are.
Regs gave us asbestos palaces and thousands of other toxic materials to give us cancer, also new builds are built by unprofessional chancers if your lucky or more likely bulit by foreigners with little to no experience in the construction industry.
?? But they are standing and well after all this time. You'll see plenty of victorian house and even older that need work doing but usually just general wear and tear where people have let it go for too long. As someone who worked on building sites for over 10 yrs. Trust me when I say those building regs we have don't mean shit. The build quality is terrible and many people who buy newly built have problems. Especially when they've lived there a few years and decide to start doing work and uncover all the nasties
Smaller bricks, smaller rooms, smaller gardens, smaller driveways = massive profits
a lighter hod
I love the old bricks
Why do the newer bricks have vertical lines for?
@@CEO786To use less clay and make more bricks with surplus clay.
Hello, you are doing a wonderful job with the imperial Victorian bricks.
The old bricks would ruin your wrist after laying them all day. And cutting them, especially a queen is a bleeding nightmare

you know concrete theoretically gets stronger and stronger over time and never stops getting stronger
imperial flags has granite and stone in them which makes them a lot harder to cur. Harder to cut harder to crack
@@nhlazyarse yes for sure.. they are solid 👍
The Victorian ones use about a 10th of the compo though. And they didn't have those heavy concrete blocks

That’s the only way to appreciate the bricks is when you’ve worked with them👍
Old bricks!
The old bricks look so much denser and stronger ( its like a whole different component)
Does anybody make the old bricks anymore?
Some claim to.
Afaik, none do.
If they made them today ....... They wouldn't be 'Old' . 😜🏴
When hod carriers where proper hod carriers!
That's not a victorian brick mate
Don't make 'em like they used to

The more basic your needs these days - especially when it comes down to a roof over your head - the more you need to pay...
My house is built out of these old imperial clay bricks. 1850 rat trap bond.
New bricks just Rot a way after a couple of years
What divy decided to change the size of a brick
Love Victorian builds . For the way they look . But that’s wear it stops . I doubt they had any building regs .

They used slate for damp courses and wood for lintels . Lots of Victorian houses rendered.. I expect the brick work is really soft as well !
Much better
Is there a difference in strength between Imperial and modern bricks?
I would be grateful if any1 answered
❤
Yes defo, the imperial old brick are far more robust compared to the modern brick.

Victorian bricks are soft as shit
Not these, made today with 1845 brick moulds, bricks as tough as solid engineered brick.
