Me and Slay the Spire had a love hate relationship as I would love finally making it to the 3rd area and the game casually hitting me with 70 damage. Keep up the great content.
i think you misunderstood what Transient does: it will always deal 30, then 40, 50, 60, 70 then die. Dealing damage reduces his strength, and Shackled gets that same amount of strength back the next turn. Dealing "extra" damage when it's attacking for 0 doesn't increase his damage next turn, he just does more damage by default

Reptomancer is huge filter, so there is no shame in getting cooked. God knows many of my runs died to her on a third or even second turn. Keep at it Brit!
A mental reminder that helped me get into the groove of spending potions rather than hoarding and dying is to check out your potion belt whenever you enter an Elite or Boss encouter, or whenver you are in one of those "oh fuck" moments where you are out of energy, and about to take 20ish unblocked damage.
Of course, there are better ways to use potions, but those two situations are the most common ones where a well-timed potion can save your bacon. It is always better to spend a potion now and save some HP, than to die with it still in your inventory.
Also, this might be a spoiler, but the Byrd enemies (the ones that take 50% damage due to Flight) in Act 2 are the worst match up for the Ironclad; most of his deck revolves around singular, strong hits that cost 2/3 Energy, so he can rarely shut them off. In contrast, the other characters have options to generate multiple weak attacks per turn, or have combos that let them play more cards for free.

So tip time! Strikes and defends, fucking suck! Beyond the early game they may as well be usable curses.
