Elgin in a Day Part 1

Many Elginites don't see downtown as a booming place anymore. After it's depression in the 90's when Spring Hill opened, the stores were empty, and the area seemed to become a wasteland of buildings and beautiful art-deco. However, 25 years later, downtown is starting to come back. It's not the popular place it was in the 70-80's, but it's starting to revive. Businesses like Rediscover Records, Mama Lee's Popcorn, Elgin Books, Elgin Public House, Chooch's Pizza and many others make the area. The Elgin Harvest Market takes place where the old library used to be, and the river front is more beautiful than ever before. The promenade on River Side Drive gives an extra oomph to the businesses that line Grove Street. The trees that line the sidewalks, and the many residents who come out to enjoy the heart of Elgin really make all the difference. In this first addition of Elgin in a Day, Sam Olson takes you around Downtown Elgin in a single day. From sunrise to almost sunset, you get to experience the change of day. In the morning, little traffic is seen, and the streets are empty. But as soon as 10am rolls around, the area is booming. It's about time the Elginites, past and present, realize that downtown isn't dead anymore. Downtown is becoming the hit place to hangout in Elgin. Whether it's business, or a family gathering, downtown is the place to be.

I used to live in wallow at water canyon ranch It is haunted the spirt of Chief jo Rides a whit horse the first house on top of driveway old piano teacher is there and many more it is very peaceful there

This is Lori Bach. Sam, this is outstanding footage and is extremely helpful for a research project I'm working on. Elgin has suffered a similar demise as Philadelphia and attracts one particular type of international culture. It has a vacation-like, dreamy appearance that's "easy on the eyes". The run-down buildings are of the past as are Philadelphia's as both cities are 11/2 energy. You have a promising career in video and I was impressed when I saw your age of only 16-years! Keep going and thank you very much!
