I can’t get over the fact that Marchand was joking about being called for a penalty. I never expected him to be such a good sport about how dirty he plays
He knows and accept the role he plays, I hate him but I understand the value of his strategy, especially from my time on the ice where I sort of was the teams enforcer, which was weird because I hated fights.
There are videos of his mother at the game and she's mic-ed up, screaming at him to behave. it's hilarious.

@@JesusFriedChrist Soccer refs aren't that bad, but they probably have the toughest job among the biggest sports, because it's the most free-flowing game. In baseball, it's very simple: ball or strike, safe or out, in soccer it's wishy-washy, because contact is allowed, too much contact isn't. Between all that, soccer refs will run about 10k per game.

I’m an avid watcher of every major sport in North America with the exception of soccer. The NHL by far has the best referees, especially compared to basketball & football, who are absolutely pathetic. Umpires in baseball just need to go at this point tho, the unions ruin the sport so much since you can’t rid the league of the problem refs

The Sharks and Blues WCF no call on the hand pass last year had me pretty pissed at the refs. Other than that pretty honest mistakes they are human too.

@Puckman637 I don't have to worry about (stupid) kids, and even more stupid parents. I referee the 4th highest division in Sweden (professional), so I have moved past that point.

@@WieselAlbert- yes, it is quite funny about that... the higher up in the grades that you go, the easier it is to umpire the game. You do get the occasional player that wants to make a mountain from a molehill, but, if you have a reputation as a fair umpire, the players generally respect the decision and move on with the game.

And in the end it was the whole building that got it wrong. I think it is pretty crazy just how often they get these calls right considering the speed of the game and the size of the puck.
@@Aryon1969 it is funny that you say that. Years (35+) ago, was umpiring at a national carnival that was being recorded for later viewing. The chair umpire made a call, which the spectators were shaking their heads on. About 5 seconds later the spectators started clapping... umpire had made the right call - by about 2.5 cm, at speed!

My cousin is an NCAA ref and says the funniest interaction he had with a player was after calling a penalty for tripping. The offender argued, loudly and with absolute conviction, that he didn’t trip the player, “he only fell because he skated over my stick, that’s HIS fault not mine!” Between his wording and the conviction in his voice, my cousin had to pause for a second to process it in his mind and confirm he had made the proper call. Anything to gain an edge I suppose, but I find the mind games players play with each other, and the officials, to be hilarious.
