They really are like parents trying to encourage and control rowdy kids lol Boost their self esteem, appeal to their reason, and when all else fails send em to time out.
I can only imagine the refs as parents telling the Karen moms that look at them in horror “Aye? Yea we let em fight. Why you say? Gets their energy out when we put em down for a nap. We step in if they fight with the sticks or get too rough tho... but makes bedtime a lot easier on our end too”
I actually used a similar line in a Bantam AA game once. 1st period just ended, players were all in the dressing room, coach calls me over, starts complaining about a missed call earlier in the period(something that happened behind me I never could have seen) so i cut him off like 10 seconds into his rant and said "Did you have a question for me or did you just call me over to bitch?" "Well no I'm just tryi-" "Alright then we're done here, you can talk to me through your captain for the rest of the game."
I think it's so cool that the refs have to be Athletic, and tough like the players. They also seem really chill in explaining their reasoning. This is about the opposite of baseball umpires.
The reason refs for hockey are better than other sports is because almost all of them have played at a decent level. Other sports anyone can ref but hockey you have to skate which means they played hockey or something else on ice
Justin Brewer oh that’s genius they should do that. Hell put him on the cover lol I’d much rather prefer that then weird fake interviews with snoop dogg and the announcers like they have in nhl20 lol
The banter and the relationship that the ref's and players have is honestly so amazing! The players try to test the ref's sometimes and tney just go dad mode and start talking to them as if they are 10..... but it actually works 😂😂
As a referee, that's a reasonable thing to say. However you call it, it's important to call it at the same level all match. If it's 2 for "You Can't Do That" at a minute in, it's 2 for "You Can't Do That" at 19:00 in the Third of a tie game.
I've been working around players and refs for years now and I love these videos. Nothing bugs me more than those people that cry about the refs playing favorites or that they are being 'paid by the other team'. These videos show the real relationship that the refs and players have. Thank you for putting these together.
"He got him in a headlock down to the ice, so we lose our top defenseman on that one play; 'just so you know'" "Do you have a question?" "No, no, just so you know..." "K." *skates away* lol that killed me
Hockey's not my sport, but we're trained to do the same thing when officiating - "answer questions, not statements". If the coach has a question and asks it reasonably, they get an answer - but if they're just making a statement, any response risks giving the coach an opening for an argument.
Woooo, that last clip was the best. Probably my favorite moment of hockey all time. Changed the finals. Holtby deserves a "what if" playoffs commercial.
Can't wait for Wes McCauley to become the commissioner for the league and set shit right. Whenever Wes comes to TMobile, the fans cheer the shit out of him more than the players, and some fans even wear McCauley linesman jerseys
@Puckman637 - All I have seen is O'Halloran at Pepsi Center. I watch #17 L'Ecuyer seems to be fair. There is one ref who doesn't like Kadri too much. He always throws him out of the faceoff circle. You can't tell me that refs don't have there favorite teams and players.
@hockey fan 2020 I do like Wes McCauley. Sometimes I check to see if the Avs game I'm going to that night is his. It's seems Wes is always in Washington. He did the outdoor game. He will definitely ref for the Stanley Cup.
I am from Aus and I know fuck all about hockey, but follow the NFL and MLB religiously and can tell that these refs are far and above the best refs in the major sports there. They have to skate, handle fights and yet they still manage to explain things fairly and handle these players. Fuckn unreal.
Best part about hockey refs is they chirp alongside the players. They're like your buddy trying to tell you not to fight the fucker at the other end of the bar.
“Those two are getting cross checking penalties, anyone else want one? Phil you want one? Get the fuck out of here then”. I love refs that don’t sugar coat it.
I never could stand refs till I watched these vids now I think they are awesome! Most are funny as hell, fair and I wonder if they took ECE training cuz of the big kids on the ice....lmao
They really are like parents trying to encourage and control rowdy kids lol
Boost their self esteem, appeal to their reason, and when all else fails send em to time out.
I was just about to comment how they remind me of teachers looking after a kindergarten class lol.
Canadians are the best at calming people down lol
I can only imagine the refs as parents telling the Karen moms that look at them in horror “Aye? Yea we let em fight. Why you say? Gets their energy out when we put em down for a nap. We step in if they fight with the sticks or get too rough tho... but makes bedtime a lot easier on our end too”
Lol professional athletes are just rowdy kids
I love that the refs trash talk just as much as the players sometimes
Myles Hecht nice your a ref, what province or stat do you ref in? I ref in Quebec at the regional level
I ref HNO from Atom to PeeWee
Aldof Goose GTHL and Alliance for me
I ref in Ontario, starting competitive soon
When you're getting paid 150k to do it I guess you have that luxury 😂 when I was getting $150 a game in junior we could not do that shit
"Did he slash him hard?"
Ref: "Yeah"
"Oh well he says he's sorry"
😂😂😂
"If I call that penalty, that's a tough standard to keep all night" such honesty from a ref
If I give you a treat I have to give them a treat deal 🤣🤣
Yeah man basically means you gonna get called for the same thing so careful wtf you wish for.
I love how every hockey ref always has the thickest Canadian accent
Thank you. I was thinking the same thing. Lol
🍁
I’m guessing most of them are Canadian so I’m not really sure why having a Canadian accent would be a shock
@@COYBIG1967 Not every Canadian has a thick Canadian accent.
What are you talking aboot
“I’ve been trying to get Auston to come talk to me, but he won’t talk to me because I have a mic on.”
Smart kid
"Anyone want a cross-check penalty?" I love these guys!
Anyone.... Alright get the f outta here 😂
Do you have a question?? 😂😂😂 o man I’ve never heard that one, that’s great
I actually used a similar line in a Bantam AA game once. 1st period just ended, players were all in the dressing room, coach calls me over, starts complaining about a missed call earlier in the period(something that happened behind me I never could have seen) so i cut him off like 10 seconds into his rant and said "Did you have a question for me or did you just call me over to bitch?" TheHumanity! Haha actually that’s prefect
Evan Strickland Hahahaha well done. Shut the whining up quick fast and in a hurry
I use what when I umpired a lot. If they don’t have a question just say “ ok “ and walk away politely
TheHumanity! You clearly haven’t reffed before
I love the way the refs treat the players. Knowing their names and asking how their doing, something I always miss with baseball
Too many baseball umps have big egos, like they think the fans are there to watch them perform.
Because if a ump says hi to one player the other team’s manager will cry foul. Because baseball players are bunch of pussies.
I think it's so cool that the refs have to be Athletic, and tough like the players. They also seem really chill in explaining their reasoning. This is about the opposite of baseball umpires.
Right? Imagine Joe West trying to ref a hockey game.
@@rexmcdowd he'd stand in the corner calling penalties and SWEARING that he saw everything perfect on the other side of the ice 😂
The reason refs for hockey are better than other sports is because almost all of them have played at a decent level. Other sports anyone can ref but hockey you have to skate which means they played hockey or something else on ice
Refs have less padding than the players. I’ve seen them get hit. They’re some tough bastards I’ll tell ya. The things I’ve seen them skate away from.
Well baseball players and umps try to compensate their boring “sport”
“I’m not arguing I just disagree” 🤣
Haha
I've said that before (to my parents) didn't go over to well😅 I'll never do it again 🤣🤣
Sounds like my mom when she hits me only for her to say "i didnt do it" 5 seconds later 😂
Wes McCauley is such a bamf they should mic him every game
Wes McAuley needs to voice the refs for NHL video games.
Justin Brewer oh that’s genius they should do that. Hell put him on the cover lol I’d much rather prefer that then weird fake interviews with snoop dogg and the announcers like they have in nhl20 lol
Soccer ref: *throws red card for slide tackle*
Hockey ref: "Yea I don't mind if ya'll fight just don't hit each other with sticks"
Soccer: *doesn't allow fans to do anything when someone scores 3 goals*
NHL: *allows fans to throw hats onto the ice when someone scores 3 goals*
really like these mic'd up vids, especially the refs. gives you insight in the game that you don't get on TV or even in the arena
If ya like this stuff: ua-cam.com/users/heystripes
"Too long. Let's go sit for a couple" Lol. They're like the parents of a bunch of little kids. Gotta send 'em to timeout every now and then.
"He wont talk to me cuz I have a mic on"
Good to see that happens in every sport lmao
“ it’s what I’m here for, self esteem patrol”
"Hey! He's not putting his stick in you. You keep your stick out of him!"
LMAO That sounds so wrong
I love how refs are like disappointed dads with whistles.
I love seeing these videos. The refs are great. “Those two are getting cross checking penalties, anybody else want one?” So funny
Then the quick gtfo then lol
The banter and the relationship that the ref's and players have is honestly so amazing! The players try to test the ref's sometimes and tney just go dad mode and start talking to them as if they are 10..... but it actually works 😂😂
Self esteem patrol lol
“Those two are getting cross-checking penalties, anyone else want one? Phil you want one? Then get the F-&$ out of here.” 😂😂
“Do you have a question”
“No I just wanted to tell you”
1:24
I never knew the refs were constantly chirping like that that awesome
“If I call that penalty that’s a tough standard to keep all night”! That’s real Solomon type wisdom there.

To be fair, they do know when they're mic'd, so..
@@johnr797 I hear it for myself every weekend. No mic'd up refs at NCAA and USPHL games. Same conversations that go on here.
2:35 "he's not putting his stick in you, you keep your stick out of him" that's kinda sus 😳
😏
"He got him in a headlock down to the ice, so we lose our top defenseman on that one play; 'just so you know'"

"Self-esteem patrol" made me actually go "Awwwwww"
You can’t act like you are going to pitchfork him... 4:26 Leo Komarov 😂
'Ya got another five years in ya'. Love it
"he's in the NHL, he's not THAT weak." lmao
Self-esteem patrol 😂
They’re getting slashing penalties, you want one Phil?
Alright get the fack outta here then let’s go
"You are to fast tonight" 😂
I love how the refs sometimes act like they are just fans too
It's nice in hockey you can tell the refs have actually played and enjoyed the sport, unlike officials in most other leagues
What I found funny is the 1 video the ref was talking to one of the players and he said "at least you made it. I got told I should be a ref" lol 😂
Woooo, that last clip was the best. Probably my favorite moment of hockey all time. Changed the finals. Holtby deserves a "what if" playoffs commercial.
This makes the NHL refs seem way less useless
Can we get Wes's jersey retired, of course when he retires which i hope wont happen soon
Everyone loves Wes best ref in the league
Can't wait for Wes McCauley to become the commissioner for the league and set shit right. Whenever Wes comes to TMobile, the fans cheer the shit out of him more than the players, and some fans even wear McCauley linesman jerseys
Most of the sounds like parents breaking up a fight hahahahha
Funny how this is in my suggestions the day a ref gets fired.
CAN NOT wait for hockey. Please, tell me it's still coming back!!!
This videos sums up hockey “tough but fair” 😂
Do a cup check compilation 😂
2:03 “We are set to go! *Yeah baby!”* 🤣
I need my own personal ref for self-esteem patrol
These refs sound like high school teachers yelling at their students for talking
yep, i’d go as far to say pre k/kindergarten teachers trying to talk to our students.
2.35 "He's not putting his stick in you" 😂😂😂😂
This is your best compilation yet, seriously funny stuff 😁
“Self esteem patrol” 😂
I wonder if an of the refs lose their voices after a game! 😂
That was late, so I can either call it roughing or roughing lol 😂
They’re like big babysitters. Just making sure they all have a good time.
Stripes are a different breed than their counterparts in the NFL etc 😂
6:08 “I had a mouthguard, I thought it was yours” 😂
This is so much like how we handle the children at my work
"There we go! YEAH BABY!" Hillarious (2:01)
I love how they go from “how you doing big guy”? To “Hey! F*ck off!”
Anybody else realize how the penguins are in like 90% of these clips?
"I don't mind the battles"
Wes McCauley- We need a few more like him.
Wish we had less of O'Halloran type refs very opinionated.
@@marie2274 to be fair not to many people like Kadri anyways
@@williampgalloway - Maybe, you will never convince Avs fans. Kadri is a welcome addition.

I think the Claude vid was the best out of the mic'ed up vid
But all of them are great 👍
"LETS GO SIT FOR A COUPLE!!"
These videos give me an entirely new respect for the boys in stripes
They really are just boys eh? National League full of rowdy boys. Refs are the parents. I love it.
Pushing #7 off was hilarious 😂
Funny because when their in trouble they talk to them like a babysitter with young children
And this is why you always look after the zebras. They're here to just play the game as much as the players.
They're as much like prison guards as anything else. They know the code of the pin, but got to keep it semi-orderly.
I love that refs can deescalate better than cops in the US
Not having guns helps with that.
I am from Aus and I know fuck all about hockey, but follow the NFL and MLB religiously and can tell that these refs are far and above the best refs in the major sports there. They have to skate, handle fights and yet they still manage to explain things fairly and handle these players. Fuckn unreal.
If you want to check out another sport that might surprise you, give sumo a go. We westerners are really clueless about how bad ass it really is.
i swear some refs say some of the funniest shit 🤣🤣
Irony in hagelin fussing with the caps 😂
Other sports referees: get angry and give penalty when a player insults them
Hockey refs: tell the players how they suck and verbally obliterate them
Best part about hockey refs is they chirp alongside the players. They're like your buddy trying to tell you not to fight the fucker at the other end of the bar.
“Those two are getting cross checking penalties, anyone else want one? Phil you want one? Get the fuck out of here then”. I love refs that don’t sugar coat it.
2:00 he's just a dad, encouraging the kids at a game
The parents of the rink.
self esteem patrol..lol
Like running an adult daycare lol
Lol "do you have a question?" "No... I just... " "K"
Lol the one where the ref says do you have a question is funny as fuck
When I tell people that don't watch hockey how tough the refs are they don't believe me until they watch these videos.
They're like daycare workers trying to control rowdy adult kids
as a preschool teacher aide i agree 😂
Alright hockey refs are the chillest officials in sports this is great
love your videos, thanks a lot for the effort you put in! Greets from Germany!
I’d like to be the guy who interviews these refs haha bad ass guys
That was a great video. I respect the hell out of referees. They don't put up with any shit
these guys should be paid millions
LOL, friggin' Canucks eh?
Tyler Johnson “great talk”
I never could stand refs till I watched these vids now I think they are awesome! Most are funny as hell, fair and I wonder if they took ECE training cuz of the big kids on the ice....lmao
Wholesome as heck!!
It’s cool that the refs/linesmen know the players nicknames.
Self esteem patrol ref is best ref
what was that ref drinking.. milk? lol
turn captions on boys... some of it is pretty funny
