Tip from the flight instructor I flew with last week, he taught me how to teach landings as it is my aspiration to become an instructor myself, I think it's genius: Land by trying your best not to land. Hold the plane off for as long as possible and let gravity do her thing.
Kevin is exactly right. Flying a small, light aircraft and coming in at 65-70 knots, you can afford to do what you describe. But when you're barreling in at 130-140 knots in a huge jetliner, you need to plant those wheels on the ground ASAP.
@@tristanhnl yup. smooth landing comes 3. centerline and touchdownzone are way more important than making it smooth.. on the 737 manual even says "Do not allow the airplane to float or attempt to hod it off, Do not prolong the flare in an attempt to achieve a perfectly smooth touchdown".
tristanhnl not asap you just drop throttle get ur rears down and then u just reverse thrust till nose down then full breaks by full breaks ur smooth sailing at 80 down knots no?
Super useful to see all the elements contributing to a safe and proper landing during the actual flight. I can almost feel like I'm up there going through the same process.
Fulfilling my dream of becoming a pilot... Completed my 4th lesson today...Slow flight, stalls, turns, etc.& my first landing. Great videos! Thanks! #FlyingSunnyFlorida
Mark Wilson that’s great mate! Absorb everything your CFI is telling you and immerse yourself in aviation videos when you’re not flying! You’ll get your license in no time
You are a great instructor. In the late 60’s I took lessons out in west Texas in a Cub. It was great fun. Never finished for I ran out of $. Wish I could continue with you. In what city do you fly out of? Enjoy your Videos.
I was in the same area a few hours after you. Touch n go at KGIF then landed and refueled at KISM and proceeded to my final destination at KVRB. Good job!
The Flying Reporter Thanks Jon.. Loving the instruction side of things.. I'd love to get another video with Otto in, problem is though, he's not my student!
In a climb hand on the throttle ALL the time! On final aim point set up like straight and level gap attitude control airspeed with power, as you get closer the time to flare is when the rwy suddenly widens. Landing chant...aim point, aspect, airspeed, centreline
AV8R767 AV8R767 control airspeed with power? Goes against what we learn in slow flight which is how you’re set up when you’re landing a light aircraft. We use power for altitude control and pitch to control the airspeed.. So I would have to disagree with you
You have plenty of elevator power in the flare. Very worth while to learn to raise the nose and keep that nose wheel well clear of the ground. You need to be rolling out with the nose wheel off the ground.
Hey! So I'm from Manchester, UK venturing over to Florida in January for my zero to CPL/ME IR training. From your accent I take it you're one of "Ar Kid" (lol) so I have a few questions regarding conversion etc. and get an idea of your plans to fly back home if you have any?
Hey! Student dude! If you think that shoulder harness irritates you in some way, because it's not over your shoulder, if you have the misfortune of stopping suddenly, like a crash, it's going to be a lot more irritation when you're digging the yoke out of your face. Just sayin'
I appreciate what you are saying and what you are trying to do but my approach is very different from yours. if you feel airspeed is the key to good landing get your students to fly a circuit with the ASI blanked off (as I do) and you will find no difference in their landings. Then try a circuit with the windscreen blanked off ,(as I don't). What you find from this(if you survive) is that A/C Attitude, it's selection, maintenance and adjustment is the key to good landings. The other key requirement s height judgement above the runway. Early pilots were making good landings before ASIs were invented!
Harry Brown I don’t doubt that your method works well. But there is more than one way to skin a cat. Shave a sheep. Eat a pizza. Think you get my point haha. It’s good to hear other instructors ways of doing things though. Difference in opinion is a good thing, definitely. Makes me grow
Interview prep, what was the format of the interview? What did the flight consist of? Finally, any tips based on your experience? Thanks, keep the videos coming!
Harry Brown you’re watching a video that shows about 10% of a flight, the better parts of a flight so to insinuate that I am not professional is a little harsh. I understand you taking the stance that I’m unprofessional because I like to make things fun, but I completely reject it. I don’t want to suck the life out of flight training for my students like the life was sucked out of it by all but 1 of the instructors I had. You don’t have to sit and be miserable in a cockpit to learn how to fly and I will never change my attitude in that respect. Flying should be fun and that’s how I try and make it for my students, and I’ve never had a student that hasn’t responded well to my attitude and the way I conduct myself.
Again your trying to teach him to land while he is trying to take off do you really think a student is giving you 100%, concentration in this position! Totally unnecessary and potentially dangerous. You say if you nail the airspeed you will have a successful landing-do you really believe that? I suggest you have to do a few other things to get an aircraft to land safely! Think about what you are saying, most of it is superflous. All you need to say on final is POWER, SPEED - HEIGHT or CENTRELINE. Save the speech for your wedding
Harry Brown hahaha spoken like a true flight instructor there mate.. I 100% believe that nailing your airspeed is key to nailing your landings. Anyone who says otherwise probably doesn’t land planes very well! Let me know when you pass your CFI exam
I wish I had a flight instructor like you, so calm and patient to teach students how to land an aircraft. ❤️

Howard Lau good advice for small planes, not do good advice once you fly jet aircrafts. Because it will eat up a lot of runway

Gerry Ortiz What was your tail number? I'll listen out for you in future! Thanks man!
Great to see you finally doing what you dreamed of doing... Can we have otto in the back too though, for comedy value, if nothing else?
The Flying Reporter Thanks Jon.. Loving the instruction side of things.. I'd love to get another video with Otto in, problem is though, he's not my student!
Proper instructor the way your hand instinctively went towards the throttle at 8:52 when that porpoise started :) Congrats on the new job!
haha Yea, immediately went for it.. Glad you caught that.. Thank you for the support!
Let me know when your going to try that circuit with the screen blanked out, I want to be there
Surprised you didn't tell him to keep his hand on the throttle taking off and climbing out..
Great student instructor bond!

Very nice, I hope to get my CFI next year, it's nice to see your perspective.
Geoffrey Gallaway Good luck with Timmy friend! Glad you enjoyed the videos
Great video man! you seem to be an awesome instructor aha 😉
MattLuklin Thanks Matt!
Must be a great feeling to finally be paid for flying. No longer just a dream. 👍
Duncan S It's a fantastic feeling! Thanks Duncan!

Hand on the throttle at all times!
IT'S PEWDIEPIE!!!! I didn't know Felix flew planes!

THE HARRY BROWN PROJECT
Good attitude
How he's wearing that shoulder strap is startin to piss me off LOL.
hes wearing it as an armpit strap XD looks really uncomfortable
cool video!
Fabio Pereira Thanks Fabio!
lew, to be a flight instructor do you own your own plane? Or is it owned by a company
spence duck Owned by the flight school he works for OR it could be done in the student’s rich butt plane.
Hi ! What cable do u use for the audio recording?
FIRST YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
If you're not wearing the seatbelt right you're not wearing it! Examiner should fail him if he does this on checkride.
Any chance we can get a video about your cfi training?
Lion's Head Enterprises I'd love to.. What kind of things are you looking for in the video?
Interview prep, what was the format of the interview? What did the flight consist of? Finally, any tips based on your experience?
Thanks, keep the videos coming!
Where are you located ?
Merry Christmas
I passed my Initial instructors rating when you were still in liquid form. You have a great personality but why not use it professionally

I notice you always taxi verses the student why is that?
Street tip.....nail the airspeed
great not street
UPS1000 It's what was drilled into me and it works!
So thats the examiner that failed you for one freakin question after more than 4 hours. Smh.
hahahah you can't wash off chlamydia
Guy should be practicing with FSX or something... just to understand the fundamentals and gain more of a foundation. Helped me forsure.
