  • The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi is one of the largest U.S. diplomatic missions in the world, a reflection of the importance the United States places on its relationship with India. The Embassy represents 17 U.S. federal government agencies, from the U.S. Department of State to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Weiss/Manfredi has been commissioned by the Department of State to re-envision the iconic embassy compound in New Delhi, India. The new design restores the early modernist Chancery Building and recasts the 28-acre embassy compound into a multi-functional campus. It builds on research into traditional Indian architecture and landscape as well as a consideration of the Embassy’s current needs for space, security, and sustainability.
The project includes a new office building, a support annex, and a transformed landscape that provides a secure campus for America's growing mission to India. A new tree-lined central green offers shade, connects functional zones across the campus, and introduces reciprocal relationships between the buildings and gardens. Inspired by India's enduring tradition of weaving together architecture and landscape, a series of cast stone screens, canopies, and garden walls introduce a resilient, integrated design language that brings the campus into the twenty-first century.
Nearly sixty years after the opening of the Edward Durell Stone-designed embassy, the rejuvenated embassy compound expresses the symbolic values of American diplomacy through environmental stewardship and gives measure to America's democratic presence in India.

Absolutely! India is a treasure trove of diverse architectural styles that span centuries. While Mughal architecture has certainly left a mark on the country, it is essential to acknowledge that India has its own unique architectural heritage that predates the Mughal era and continues to flourish today.
The United States diplomatic building in Delhi may incorporate elements of Mughal architecture, which is a testament to the fusion of cultures and the appreciation for India's rich history. However, it is crucial for architects to explore the vastness of India's architectural traditions and draw inspiration from various styles like Hemadpanti.
Hemadpanti architecture, originating from the Deccan region, is known for its intricate carvings, ornamental designs, and grand temples. It represents a distinct architectural expression that deserves recognition and inclusion in contemporary designs.
By embracing India's diverse architectural heritage and incorporating styles like Hemadpanti, architects can create a harmonious blend of the old and the new, celebrating the country's rich past while embracing its modern aspirations. India's architectural legacy is a source of pride and inspiration, and it's essential to explore and appreciate its various styles

Understand this, the mughals had no sense of architecture. If they did, show me one pre-Humayun era architecture. The West looks down upon Indian architecture and can only florify the Mughals as they themsleves are invaders, what better do u expect?

Hey America, It's not the Mughal Culture. You are referring it to 'Mughal Culture' because Mughals destroyed Indian Culture which were much more advanced. Anyways one only point - are there same building in history from where Mughal came from 😂?. Its the Indian Culture, Architecture, Workers who worked for Mughals at that point of time in History

What kind of culture they are talking about??? if the Mugals was our culture to incorporate their peace of design in the Embassy Building then Where is the element of Jain Culture, Bodh Culture, Sikh Culture, Bangali Culture, Jain Culture, christianity, South India Cultures, or many more....and where is India Culture have unmatchable architecture in thousand years old Mandirs...like Surya Mandir, Lepakshi temple, Hampi Virupaksha Temple, Chennakeshava Temple, Kanchi Temple, Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple, Tanjore Temple, Halebidu Temple, Konark Temple and many more....where is their element....This Embassy does not belongs to India It belongs to Afganistan, Pakistan or any Islamic Country...!!! Mugals were not from India They came to India to Invade Us...If Invader were our culture then you should add Elements of (Aryan Invasion (1800-1500 BCE), Persian invasions(535 BC ), Alexander’s Invasion(336 BC -323 BC), Invasion of Seleucid(305 -303 BC), Indo, Greek Invasion (180 BC), Huna Invasion(458 AD), The European Invasionsor or Britishers).
