I was a child when I found this song, the rhythm is quite dynamic and I don't understand the implication of the lyrics so I shrug this song under the rug... I rediscovered this song and it is actually PHENOMENAL
Sonata Arctica is not just my favorite band and yours too, is our way to wake up.why I will never commit to a marriage but I got them tattooed, will always be my number one and I know the few choosen ones think same. I love music so much same as I love sonata, first comes the family then , sonata, cage..my Selene and white pearl,... following the order not all the time but this is the right time.🤘🍻

So... We finally meet. After I these years of searching I have finally found what I have been looking for. All over my country it is nowhere to be found but, in the far north reaches it had made it's retreat, and there is where it makes it's final stand. Real Music! This song always makes me think of a girl who is gonna get executed for witchcraft and her lover, and this is their last conversation before she's executed.
Well that's actually what the song talks about, not the last conversation of course but the setting is just like you describe it :P
The last part, in my opinion, implies that the narrator was also a wizard or some other kind of supernatural being.

It's not necessarily about Salem or The Crucible in particular, after all, there was a very widespread panic about witches among the Puritans, and witch-hunting goes back all the way through the Middle Ages. Still, the most widely recognised and infamous incident was Salem, and as you say, this song is probably dedicated to The Crucible.
@malignanz It is very complex and creative. I wonder if Tony Kakko was talking to Tuomas Holopainen when he wrote this song.
Tuomas is my idol. It's well likely...he is a great, amazing, sublime songwriter!!

@Televisionaer Not sure what the deathaura itself is. I think it's the skull in the clouds on the album cover. Mass Hysteria makes people see things like that.

Sonata is NOT a Power Metal band. They didn't start a as a power metal band, and they are currently NOT a power metal band. They had a "Stratovarian" period, but other than that, you guys should grow up as the band did. This is the true Sonata Arctica. Tony said "With every album we come closer to our true sound". Get over it. If you want the same kind of music through 5 albums, there's DragonForce for you.
Dont make me laught, Holopainen never composed anything so complicated, Holopainen's music was always very simple, and without soprano is a very pop's simple shit of music, and Tony Kakko is a real genious

The last 2 SA albums disapointed me....
I played World of Witchcraft for a few days. It's a pretty crappy ripoff of World of Warcraft.
Nope.
This is literally the only song on the album that retains the sonata feel. The rest are poppy and sold out sounding
