- Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Roberto "Manos de Piedra" Duran Billed as The Brawl in Montreal. Duran looks to overcome a Prime Sugar Ray Leonard at welterweight (147lbs) after dominating lightweight (135lbs) for years. This has been stretched to 16:9 and made 1440p 60fps.
There are moments where the video lags pretty bad like at the end of the first round. Cant do anything about it.
The quality was made possible by Sky Sports's upload of the fight. - Спорт
What a fight! The level of fitness, endurance and mental toughness from both fighters is just incredible.
Beyond amazing
Don't know if it's been mentioned in the comments but the in-ring announcer calling out the judges' scores stated the 2nd judge's score incorrectly as 147-147 - i.e. a draw. In fact, that judge had Duran winning the fight 148-147. Shortly after the scores were announced and the fighters were back in their dressing rooms, it was clarified that Duran had actually won by unanimous decision (not majority decision). Duran won the fight by unanimous decision 145-144, 148-147, 146-144.
This fight is one of my best life memories. I was 13 yrs old and my father and I were big boxing fans. We went to watch this fight on a closed-circuit broadcast at the gym of the nearby university in our city. When we got there we were told it was sold-out. We were both so disappointed. We were about to leave when all of a sudden a Budweiser Beer man shouted out to us from the side of the building. We walked over and he threw the door open for us and said "Don't tell anyone I did this for you!" We hustled inside and the first round had just begun. The atmosphere in that college basketball gym was unreal. Was like nothing I'd ever felt or experienced before. People were going nuts. My dad and I absolutely loved the fight. It was a true all-time classic. The interactions my dad and I and with each other and the fight fans around us was beyond memorable. My dad and I talked about that fight and that night in general for the rest of his life.
Thanks for uploading the fight in this quality. Its a joy watching Roberto Duran when he's on top of his game. Top 10 P4P great.
Leonard,,,Duran,,,Hearns and Hagler
Different class
Greatest Fight of All Time and my Favorite Fight.
The quality is insane, so clean it feels like im there...literally in the ring getting punched by these 2 legends. Thanks for the upload, may the gods bless you with an abundance of coochie for your contribution...this gets me hyped for Spence vs Crawford
HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE HIGHEST QUALITY IVE EVER SEEN
That was the fight of the century
The quality's beautiful but yeah the glitching that happens from time to time is a real turn off
I saw this fight on live show at the L.A. Sports Arena. It was simply electrigying every minute of he match. Leonard showed to the world that he could punch and go toe to toe with a hard hitting fighter like Duran. The only bad thing is that Leonard got away with a lot of holding. Both are great legends adn Duran was the rightful winner.
Great stamina by both fighters & yes Leonard was holding way too much.
He shouldn't have done, should have fought like in the 2nd fight and would have won easily. He made a big mistake there .
@israellopez do you know the name of Sugar rays walk out song?
@@e.a.poecrnimacak354yea that was the point of the rematch, he made mistakes in the first fight, which he identified and corrected them. In the rematch
You do know Duran was holding as much as Leonard right
Masterclass in dirty boxing. Epic! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!
Upload more classic fights with this quality. Please
Where the hell did you get such a clear video of this fight? Did you work for ABC I’ve been looking for this version for ten years.. thanks 🙏🏿
Leonard holds so much and the Ref doesn't stop it.
Yeah he did it all throughout the fight.
Your right, Leonard held the whole fight
If Leonard didn't,t hold so much he would,ve got dropped
Another Mayweather
Unbelievable!
Bro HOLY SHIT. THIS IS THE BEST QUALITY WITH THE BEST COMMENTARY. Thank you man fr
I think in the last round Leonard had more then Duran and Duran knew this was Leonard’s last chance to win so he would try to knock him out. And if he did Duran would loose but if he survives he will win on points so he mainly tried to evade Leonard’s attacks with his brilliant defense. A lot of brains behind the brawn.
JK Ju
Yeah your right. Duran said it himself that he was spent and had nothing in the last Rd. So he went all defense because he knew by the 13th Rd he had the fight won.
53:40 You'd have to be an idiot to think this fight was even going into the 15th round.
Duran was comfortably ahead at this point.
Two warriors. Two of the greatest fighters ever.
One of the greatest Golden era fight best of the best two gladiators... you wanna watch more existing fights watch. Salvador Sanchez fights they're in UA-cam
LEGENDS!!...
En que año fue esta epica pelea?
20 de junio de 1980
"the grease that makes you sweat, gets you hot"
They dont box like that anymore. Early MMA!
I only came here for 57:09 -58:09 he looks like Rocky.
This is the only fight a prime Sugar Ray Leonard lost.
Hagler got him too but got screwed
Yes Hagler beat him but got screwed big time@@makula5543
🌟Roberto Duran could of won all (3) Fights “ HANDS OF STONE”❗️❗️ 1:29
The should be a year the event took place.
nice
Great fight, but it wasn’t a “close” fight as the announcer carrying water for Leonard suggest
sugarcoat chiken out he kept holding Durans arms akl the time.
Yeah he was holding pretty much in every Rd.
Sugar Ray on display baby 😮
These commentators wanted Leonard to win, I seen this fight back then and Duran clearly won, he made Leonard miss a lot, and Leonard held on the whole fight, Duran beat him the whole fight
That's part of the reason I did,not care much for ali, cause danced and held so much, I think most American fans like dancing more then fighting
Before the rematch a female acquaintance of mine that lived in panamwas a waitress where Duran ate, said he over ate and was,not prepared for the rematch and I guess right before the fight he had bad stomach problems, but I was mad at him because I lost money in the rematch
Yeah ive never been interested in fighters that are busy dancing and flirting with the judges/public. I mean sure you can get good while dancing your way through fights but common man. Gotta appreciate a real fighter like duran. Thats what this sport is all about.
Also Duran beat the great ken Buchanan for the lightweight championship a while before this and he beat the great Esteban dejesus
You do know Duran held Leonard as much as Leonard did. It was a close fight. You must have watch just the highlights if you think Duran was winning the whole fight.
Just watched this for the first time with this incredible quality. I waited years to find a good quality video. Thank you so much for this. I have no fucking idea how brutal this fight was. Amazing amazing grit and hunger
Almost every time Leonard lands a punch Duran was hurt in Ferdie Pacheco,s eyes if anything Duran hurt Leonard especially in rounds 2 through 4
By far my favorite Leonard fight. The one he lost. Think about that.
para que leonard se para a pelear? si lo que haces amarrarse...
I remember reading Sugar Ray Leonard book he talked about this fight. People ain't no he was a puncher he learned to box after this fight.
Roberto Durán Dios te ayude a ganar esa pelea que tienes contra tu corazóm tus fanaticos de Venezuela te queremos vivo por lo menos unos 30 años más.
Ferdie Pacheco is Bias for Duran it's Pathetic 😂😂. Great Fight 💪🏾
Even fight? Bullshit. Duran's eating him alive, despite a referee who's turning in the worst performance of his entire career. Padilla was the ref from Hell in this fight. What a shame.
Duran won all the early Rds. Sugar made a comeback but just not enough.
Duran beat him the whole fight, if Leonard didn't get away with holding Duran would of k.o.d him
@@mikemilliken3596 Duran was beating his brains out like he was nothin'. All that talk about Leonard holding his own, were coming from a place where their hero could do no wrong, but it sure didn't look that way to me. Maybe the first round was even, but I thought Duran won every single round after that.
@@mwbright watch the modern martial artist review of this fight, it was surprisingly closer than the expected, l mean, even just watching the rounds you can see leonard not getting knocked once and even giving some good blows, which is impressive given duran in fighting
@@mwbrightYou clearly just watch the highlights and did not watch the whole fight if you think Duran dominated. You must be trolling.

I scored it for Leonard. Don King was Duran’s promoter during that time. But Leonard got the better of the trilogy and signed with Don King in the rematch. But both are great warriors.

Just a timestamp for me
Duran won this boutique
Great fight 15 round war
Ray just hugging
He didn't want to slug it out with Duran.
You do know Duran was holding as much as Leonard
LOVE DURAN LOVE HIS PASSION sugar holding too much. I understand Duran stopped fighting in the second but Duran detested his dancing and he didn't say no moss he said I'm not fighting this clown and if you know Duran it's exactly what he'd say and do
bro talking bout hugging and then has a floyd picture
Really thought Ray won this… learned a lot about how fights may be perceived…. I’d really like to see punching stats on this bout to help drive home my understanding….
Wow…. Sitting here like wwwwwooooowww….
Someone once said who would you rather be at the end of the match and that’s one way they can start to get an idea of who won…
This one is gonna take time to process…
Can’t edit but can’t go without saying this was an amazing fight, electrifying, and motivating to the point of wet eyes.
…..idk…and now learning that the next two rematches were heavily lopsided in Ray’s favor via ability supports the original analysis of this fight….
I’ll say this the “missed” punches Ray through, to me, seemed to be like shooting blanks to keep Duran ducking, *sometimes*, or more cautious- like a pitchfork for an aggressive bear- I know that’s so hard to judge cuz technically it’s a missed swing if you go by stats but sometimes punching and knowing it isn’t going to land is like a feint and helps you control the flow…. I’ll watch this again in a year or so but dang such a nuanced way to not get the decision but all of this is supported by the next two rematches…. Which the writing is on the wall because even here Duran really thought he won, he did but not in the way he thought… such an interesting and multi layered saga. Boxing!!!!! Love this sport!
I'm a Leonard fan. But Duran won this boutique. Great fight. Leonard came on late
Bout I said Duran won this bout
i love duran. but had leonard danced, would roberto have won?
Sugar won this first fight. He fought Duran's and Duran couldn't knock Sugar out. Sugar fought Duran's style the whole fight. In order for Duran to have won that fight, he needed to knock Sugar out. He didn't. Plus remember the NO MAS when Sugar fought his way. Sugar is the clearly the greatest !
Leonard made a tactical mistake and that's why he lost. Had he fought like he did in the 2nd fight, he would have won easily. Duran is one of the greatest boxers ever, but wouldn't stand a chance because Leonard had a perfect style to beat him, just abandoned it in this fight.
28:00
sugar ray sucked ... hearnes proved that !!!!!
Proved that by getting knocked out by him?
@@e.a.poecrnimacak354 haa..sugar never beat hearnes once...judges were clearly on something. No matter how many times you watch it hearnes kicked his ass everytime
@@jfk19780 sugar literally tko hearns in the first fight tho, knocked him down twice, hearns was injured and running out of gas
he never beat hearns once FACT !!!@@kakashihatake6176
Jesus Padilla was useless!
majority draw IMO.
Don' t be hater, this was almost Maidana vs Broner.
Leonard admited was schooled by Duran. Y hasta dijo que le aflojaron los dientes delanteros.
Empate de donde?
@@raulymendezacosta6988 lmao shaddap
Wow! Amazing fighters.
Big parts of the fight where a draw indeed. But most highlights are all roberto duran.
sugar ray all the way to much for duran yeah duran had moments here and there ray leonard for most got the best of it head up as far as the huggin go mostly duran that was his style of fightin down and dirty still didn t do really anything but tied ray up spin ray if he could and keep leonard on the ropes in the end leonard whip them all stands alone as of the four kings
and to keep the bull shit away call it a draw even as sugar ray was the better man just ask tommy herans and others marvin rest in peace halger
Duran is above the 4 Kings. He's ranked above them.
@@MakaveliRaideryeah, people dont know that he was already one of the best ever when he finished the lightweight division.
And he entered the top 5 best fighters ever when he fought succesfully in higher weight classes and way out of his prime.
Many people get fooled by his agression and power but duran was one of the most technical fighters to ever lace up gloves.
A real fighter.
Yes that is why he lost to Hagler
@@MrWeliz hagler losing the three first rounds (or four?) costed him alot tho, especially with leonard strategy
